We only had the chance to try the hot dogs here just once even though our hotel was quite close to the train station. The cart showed up every evening and usually had a line of hungry customers. While the menu shows the different hot dogs combos staff did allow for substitutions especially since we were not a fan of raw onion. I really liked the snap of the hot dogs combos when biting into it. It was juicy and had a nice flavor. The fried onions and relish went well and the soft bun wrapped everything together. It was a pricey hot dogs, versus the Costco version :), but we agreed that we'd be back again. read more

Speaking for the common man, we thank these veterans. After watching this beautiful dance of culinary creation, it was my time to order. Spurned along by the suggestions of a trio my rear, it had to be the hotdog ristet. Adorned with a medley of pickled and chopped goods and one small personal addition of hot sauce, it was a sight to behold. This place was awesome. There's nothing complicated about it. Me and the missus tried three or four hotdogs at this place. We loved all of them. It's located along one side of the Copenhagen central train station, so it's got a good location. They are pretty cheap and very satisfying. We like all of them that we tried. And as odd as it may seem to my fellow Americans, yeah, the chocolate milk really does work with it. It has a nicer, richer, more chocolately flavor than a lot of stuff I'd personally had in the past. And the red-dyed hot dogs. Also fun to have. Well worth it. I initially felt like I was betraying the states by ordering a hot dog in Denmark, but after one bite, I was pleasantly surprised--it was one delicious dog! John's Hotdog Deli offers a variety of sausage options, from the traditional boiled and red, grilled, thick to the more modern elongated and thin sausage. Our hot dog vendor / connoisseur was kind (and patient) enough to share a brief history of the hot dog to help us narrow our selections. I chose the modern frank with traditional toppings, and it definitely did not disappoint. Wow, just ate at Tight tonight, which may not even be worth reviewing, just another tourist trap. Me and my buddy were saying after that we could really go for a dog. Not something that you generally say after a good dinner. I was resigned to just not being satisfied. But lo and behold on my nice walk to my Copenhagen Marriott, I happened upon this hotdog stand. There was a lot of people in front of it, and the hotdogs looked awesome. Well, they only take cash. Grrr. That was not gonna stop me though I was on a mission. It wasn't that big of a mission though, because I had just seen a cash machine a block back. Fast forward to the hotdog stand. The chick there was super cool, great English, and recommended a hotdog for me. She said if I was hungry I should get the big dog but if I wasn't I should get the smaller one. I got the big dog. I forgot to take a picture of it before I took a bite, but you can still get the picture, LOL. If you're in Copenhagen, and near the train station and Tivoli, look for this stand on the street. My husband Matt B. and I arrived in Copenhagen on a Sunday, after more than thirteen hours of travel. By the time we checked into our hotel, it was past one in the afternoon, and we decided to get a quick lunch at John's Hotdog Deli, doubling back to Copenhagen Central Station. I'd heard that hot dogs were kind of a thing in Copenhagen, and this stand--one of a few John's Hotdog Deli locations--was particularly recommended (I was going off of this Eater list, which proved very useful for our trip: https://www.eater.com/maps/best-copenhagen-restaurants-38). It was easy to spot, set up right in front of the main entrance to the train station. I guess people line up here during busier hours, but we were happy to find it slow at 1:30. There was one woman working the stand. She was kind of gruff, but in a likable way, and she helped us order when we couldn't figure out the Danish-only menu. I ordered a red hot dog with everything on it, and Matt got a bratwursty-looking sausage a la carte, with an a la carte bun (picky eater). My hot dog looked weird, skinny and red, and I'm still not entirely sure what it was. No matter, though--it was fantastic. Snappy and meaty, topped with remoulade, mustard, cucumber relish, and fried and raw onions, all on a nice, sturdy bun. I loved the sweet relish and the crispy and crunchy onions. All the flavors and textures just worked well together. We ate on a bench in the train station--couldn't figure out where else to take it--and I demolished it, getting bits of relish and onion all over the place. My only complaints about this place: it was cash only and staggeringly expensive. We had to exchange money for this lunch, and only learned later that Copenhagen isn't really a cash city. I guess this isn't an issue for locals, though, who probably make up most of the customer base. The prices, too, were maybe in line with the city--we paid over $20 for two hot dogs and two sodas. I'm less shocked by this in retrospect, after all the money we spent in Copenhagen. In any case, this was a super satisfying lunch, and definitely the cheapest and quickest of our meals in this town. I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for a Copenhagen street dog at home in LA. That hot dog was truly delicious. read more

Had a "French hotdog": nice snap to the dog, I appreciated them thoroughly warming the (commercially-made) baguette, and the mysterious white sauce was a nice touch. Who ever knew that besides making pastries, the Danes excel in making delectable hot dogs as well??!! A friend introduced Johns Hotdogs Deli to me when I visited Copenhagen and it was an instant love at first sight- it's hard to put it into words but everything in their hot dog works really well with each other from the sausage to the toppings (which you can choose) down to the mustard. It's a chain so you'll be able to find other stalls throughout the city as well, although this one is convienently located between Copenhagen Central Station and Tivoli Park. I used to dream about German bratwursts (also delicious) but now I'm finding myself dreaming about these good ol' Danish hot dogs as well...definitely a MUST TRY especially for all those from out of town!! (Seriously, don't leave Copenhagen/Denmark without trying this or you will seriously regret it...) TIP: They also sell a hot dog type that has an enclosed bun on one side (so kind of like a cone) with the sausage sticking out. Ive had bacon wrapped with the works and bacon wrapped fransk style which were both pretty tasty. Dealing with the drunks is sometimes a chore. Thomas was super nice and of the multiple pølsers I had while in Copenhagen, the ones here were hands down my favorite. Every component was leagues above the other places I tried. The flavor of the meat was superb, the density of the bun perfect, and the toppings and sauces sealed everything together. I kept wanting to come back here and tried, but they were not there. I am not sure what their hours are; I came on a Monday night around 10pm. For a pølser done right, this is the place to come. read more

Worst hotdog ever. I asked for a crispy bread and the bread was so soft it was bendable. I asked if he could warm it more to get more crispy, but he has no idea what crispy means. The bread broke over it half because it was so soft! When I mean crispy it has to be so hard that The bread is not bendable. They do not even deserve one star! One of the best hot dogs I've ever eaten. Conveniently located just outside Copenhagen Central Station. Learned about this place from Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown Noma Episode @ Copenhagen. Tony ate the organic sausage made with wild garlic and bacon, mustard, beer pickled onions. I requested that, but they said that special has been replaced with a hot dog with guacamole. I'm not a fan of guacamole on a hot dog, but I went ahead and was blown away by the flavor. The sausage was perfectly cooked, with a taut skin and moist meat inside. Although the stand is outside, it has a small awning and is next to the covered area of the train station. This was important as it was raining when we visited it. read more
