Before my daughter moved to the Pacific Northwest in her 150,000 mile CR-V, I took it to Sunman Auto Care to be serviced and thoroughly checked out: steering components, brakes, shocks, exhaust, etc. I gave Jeff a green light to repair or replace as needed. The only repair needed was a serpentine belt. Now I am confident that she will have no major problems with her car and at a very reasonable cost. Click and Clack say that if you find a place that does good work and you can trust them, keep going there. Sunman Auto Care is one of those places.

My mechanic who I trust but doesn't do transmission work told me what to ask for and the error code it was giving. I wanted a very rough, loose estimate to see if it was worth it. Mike, the owner, told me that if I didn't want to replace the transmission that he would suggest getting a new car. I asked if he could just give me an estimate for the part I was told to replace. He said no, that I wasn't the shop for him, and to have an amazing day and hung up on me. When I called back to see if he was the owner, etc and asked why he couldn't help me, explain to me, etc he was very condescending and said some people just don't want to hear what they don't like. I 100% understand that the customer is not always right, I understand that not every business wants every customer, I would have understood if he asked to look at it first to confirm the diagnostics, I would have been fine with paying for that service but to be so rude from the get go was shocking. I also understand that in looking for transmission work I am paying for their skill as it is a specialty that I don't have, I'm sure there are few enough of them to where they can be picky but to be rude and hateful when I'm just trying to understand so I can weigh options is uncalled for. And the price was good for all it offered. When I told him I wasn't going through with the purchase after all, he couldn't have been kinder...he actually encouraged me not to let anyone pressure me into buying a car or paying a price I wasn't completely comfortable with. That told me everything I needed to know about his character. He's a genuinely stand-up guy, and if I find another car in his area, he will absolutely be the person I call for the inspection. Disappointing pre-purchase inspection…read more I hired this mechanic for a pre-purchase inspection, and within 24 hours another shop found several major issues that were either missed or not communicated: Brakes were under 3mm and needed immediate replacement Front right headlight was not working and had condensation inside the lens, requiring a full assembly replacement All four tires showed dry rot The diagnostic codes he dismissed were tied directly to the failing headlight What concerned me most was that he later told me he knew the brakes were worn but didn't mention it during the inspection. That is a major safety issue and exactly the kind of information a buyer pays for. When I brought up the headlight, he insisted it "worked the day of inspection," even though it was not functioning when I drove the vehicle off the lot that same day. He also dismissed the tire findings by saying only two were bad and suggested the other shop was exaggerating, despite clear dry rot. I reached out privately to resolve everything before writing this review, but the concerns were not acknowledged or corrected. Because of these missed issues, I had unexpected and expensive repairs immediately after purchase. Unfortunately, the inspection was not thorough or reliable, and I cannot recommend this service.
