I was upset because in 2 weeks after many texts and calls there still was no tarp on my roof that was promised. The first time I had John's Tree Service prune the willows in my yard, in 2023, they did a nice. Last August 2025, however, a new crew absolutely butchered one of them leaving a large gap. Removal of Two Trees, both storm damaged. Your man Collin gave us an estimate on removing some limbs and told my husband he would be there in a week to complete the work (June 6). He never showed but after a storm, a big limb was knocked down and it was clear the tree had to come down and I was willing to give your company another chance. I texted Collin a photo of the tree (June 22) and he promised to come on Monday to give us an estimate. Once again, he was a no show. By the time you called John(Aug 13), the tree had been gone over a month. We went with a company that actually showed up to give an estimate and do the work. The ironic thing here is that we are neighbors, which is why you were the first company we called. The next time we heard from your company was via a knock on the door asking us to sign a petition to allow you use of the old Pete Auto for your business. You know they say you never have a second chance to make a good first impression right? Well our first, second, and third impressions were all bad. Hired 9/2025 to cut a small tree leaning against a 2 story building. Tree was cut improperly and ended up going right thru a Livingroom window. Business did replace the window but has not gotten back for reimbursement of items the shattered glass did in the living room. Has been 6 months, at least 6 calls to the owner and the office. Very poor follow up service for a mistake they made. and we paid the $800.00 bill timely. Contacted owner and the office again for 7th time. still have not seen the reimbursement for damages from tree thru window. Very poor follow up. read more

Similar experience to every other 1 star reviewer,...hired him to cut multiple trees down in my yard. He left the fallen trees in my yard claiming the land was too soft and it would rip it up. I paid him the complete amount as he promised to return and finish the job. He kept making excuses claiming he would return and finish the job it's been a year now. He gave me a fair price and his crew was ready a few days later. when I saw his equipment I knew I had made the right choice. On Aug 6th, John's tree service swiftly & efficiently removed 5 dead trees from our property. During the process, our neighbor's sidewalk was damaged with the heavy equipment. Although he promised an immediate fix, it took 2 months to resolve. Our only complaint has been lack of communication during that time. John hired a contractor Sept. 30th for the repair to which our neighbors are now pleased. We received a personal phone call today apologizing for the delay. My 85 year old father used this service to remove a tree from the front yard in May of 2022. My father paid $1,890 up front, before the completion of the full job. The tree was cut down, and the check was cashed. This tree service left behind 5 large logs, a pile of sawdust from some of the stump they grinded, the remainder of the stump, and some branches. My father called the office at least 4 times asking for the company to finish their job. My father talked with John on one occasion, who told my father they were busy but would return when they had time. My father was still a customer and deserved to be put on their schedule to finish the job. No one ever returned. My father then wrote a letter to the company to remind them, but they still didn't return. My father took the company to small claims court in January or February of 2023. No one from John's Tree Service even bothered to show. On March 3, 2023, the judge found in favor of my father, citing John owes my father $640. John has still not paid my father. I am disgusted that someone took advantage of my father, and from other reviews on other cites, my father is not the only one. Has anyone reading this review got the money John owed them as decided by the courts, and if so, how did you get the money? We have an option of contacting the licensing agency. Just an FYI, I've seen John responding to some negative reviews basically blaming the customer. I think that is extremely immature and in poor taste. read more

Paid John a lot of $$$ to do tree cutting at my residence. I did have issues with neighbor( who lost her mind over me cutting my large tree down -that gave her shade. It was/IS rotted) John had problems w equipment and was supposed to come back to finish other trees. I stupidly paid him for entire job bc he assured me he would be back to finish. That was 13 months, MANY phone calls and emails- that he assured me he was sorry & would be back. NOTHING. He Ghosted me AND kept my money. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE! Hired John's Tree Service and Landscaping to remove a tree and grind a stump. While the crew was removing the tree, I settled up and paid the full negotiated price for the service. I was told at the time a second crew would come and grind the stump and remove remaining logs and debris. It's been over a month now and John's Tree Service still has not completed the job although it clearly states the services I paid for on the estimate and receipt. I've called, texted, and emailed multiple times to get John to finish the job. He's got more excuses than I can list in this review. Called CNY Tree Service for an estimate to get remaining job completed. They knew who I was talking about before I can finish telling the story. Go to CNY Tree Service. I called John's Tree Service after calling other tree removal services. I left messages and was not called back, the job was refused or they were solidly booked. John immediately came over, walked the property and gave a good assessment of the trees that needed to be removed. Some of the trees, though healthy, had grown too tall for an urban setting. DO NOT USE!!! Charged me A LOT for cutting back (trimming /shaping) five trees. After dozens of calls, he finally came months later and did a hasty half a**ed job on four of them. STUPIDLY I paid him in full upon arrival. He damaged the lawn, the sideway, and the neighbors yard. He left the yards a mess, not only the yard itself but also left large limps dangling in the trees to later fall in the road, the driveway and all over the yard. He did half of one of the trees but not the other side. I contacted him repeatedly over the next several months about coming back to finish and to clean up the mess, and repair the damage. Every time - he told me he would be back out the next day or the next week. Six months later I finally gave up and hired another company to come in and fix the butcher job he did on the trees. I continued to call and send emails to try to get at least some of the money back. Depending on the time I was told different lies. "I was going to come back", I did not even charge you for a last tree (though it was on my invoice), I did that one for free, I sent you a check in the mail, it came back, I must have had the wrong address on it (I live in the same town as him and am less then 5 miles from his business office and the address was correct on my bill and he managed to get to the house to do the estimate and the work he did do..), I stopped by but you were not home" , I have had a hard year" it went on and on... I never did get any money back and he knows if I try to take him to small claims court it will cost me more time and money, and all he has to do is not show up. BOTTOM LINE IS DO NOT USE HIM. Last year we had a tree removed by Johns service. They yook tree down okay bit left a mess tat we had to pay extra for them to come back to clean up! After this (I should have known better) I orally contracted them to do yard work since I am disabled to do some yard work. I waited 3 different times for them to come and they never came even after John promised each time they would be there. So unprofessional and rude! Do not waste your time with this kid. He will omly take jobs that are high paying and blow you off for smaller jobs.He is way too young to be able to handle any other parts of this business. Recently I heard the buzz of chain saws in my neighborhood and looked out at my neighbors yard to find a crew working on some trees. I strolled over to find that this was a crew from John's Tree Service. I had been wanting to have one of the trees in my back yard taken down, as it was quite dead and dangerous. I also had a rather large one in the front of my home that needed to be trimmed and shaped, as it was way overgrown. A couple of the guys came over to look at what I wanted done and assured me it would not be an issue. They called John right then and he and I agreed that he would stop over later that afternoon. Well he did, and he provided me with a quote that I thought was very fair and we agreed that he would do the work. They showed up earlier than expected, did a fantastic job on both trees and cleaned up in no time flat. My biggest concern initially was that whoever would do the work would drop the trees and branches and simply leave them there for weeks or more. That was NOT the case with John's crew. The whole job was done in two days and my yard was spotless. In fact they even reseeded my lawn where the trees had fallen and made some holes..... Don't give a final payment till you are satisfied ALL work is done. I'm an out of town landlord, hired John's Tree service to remove two trees and grind the stumps. John and his crew did a good job taking down the tree's then dropped the ball when it came to finishing the job. I paid him when he said his guy just has to finish grinding the stumps and clean up, "be done in an hour" he said. Well he left, stump grinder broke, guys left, left a mess that I had to clean up, then took over three weeks to get him back to finish grinding the stumps. I understand things break down, but you do what you have to in order to get the job done. He did not return calls, or texts, finally sent someone back in a little over three weeks, he grinded the stumps but left a mess.
