I was worried I wouldn't be able to find someone I felt as comfortable with. When my old orthodontist went out of business, I had no option but to start looking. I tried one other dental office first. I showed up about 15 minutes early but wasn't taken until about 20 minutes after my appointment time. That wasn't a huge deal, but I also realized my appointment had been double booked. I know that isn't necessarily uncommon, but I just had a bad feeling, so I decided to keep looking. That's how I found Dr. Frank at Newport Beach Dentistry. I remember my first appointment so clearly because I showed up early and Dr. Frank actually took me about 5-10 minutes early. He was extremely nice and had such a welcoming energy. You could even tell from everyone else working there and their happy, cheerful attitudes that it was a genuinely good work environment. I immediately had such a good feeling about Dr. Frank. At my first appointment, we took X-rays and he showed me exactly where my cavities were. He took the time to explain how advanced each cavity was, how they probably happened, and how much time I had before they got worse. I already knew about most of them and could visually see some, so it wasn't a surprise when I found out I needed five fillings. I liked the office so much after that first appointment that I canceled an appointment I had scheduled at another dental office because I had been shopping around trying to find a dentist I actually liked. I also have to mention how genuinely nice the ladies at the front office were. They took the time to explain everything about the cost, what each charge meant, what my insurance would cover, and were completely transparent about the cost of other things I was interested in, like Invisalign and a retainer. I don't know how else to describe it other than they had so much empathy in the way they spoke to me and even in their body language. They genuinely seemed like they enjoyed their jobs. The next week I came back for my first two fillings. Everything went so seamlessly, and it only took about an hour. One thing about Dr. Frank that really makes you realize how much he enjoys his job and how good he is at it is how attentive he is throughout the entire procedure. He constantly told me what he was doing and what the next step would be without me ever having to ask. It was almost like he understood exactly what I was thinking. At every little sign of discomfort, he would immediately take the tools out of my mouth and ask, "Are you okay? Are you in pain?" (I was never actually in pain, for the record ). I genuinely think that level of attentiveness is something you can't really teach. You just have to have that type of empathy, and I really think he does. After those two fillings, we scheduled my last three for the following week. That appointment went great too! Dr. Frank drilled out the cavities, and another woman in the office completed the fillings. I unfortunately didn't catch her name, but I'm including a photo of her because she deserves credit too! She was extremely meticulous, kind, and I think she did a great job on all three. Something else I noticed during that last appointment that gave me even more confidence in the office was hearing everyone outside talking, laughing, getting along, and cracking jokes with each other. It just seemed like such a genuinely nice place to work, and it made me understand why everyone there is so kind and welcoming. I'm also including photos of 4/5 of my fillings (both sides of my back bottom molars), along with photos of Dr. Frank and the other dental professional who helped complete my fillings. Well, it has been a great transition! First of all, I've had several crowns and other recent treatments and it has always been painless and gentle. Dr. Kelly also discovered a thyroid nodule as part of his standard exam -- which most dentists don't include. (Thankfully, I was able to get it treated via RFA while it was still early enough to avoid surgery.) Dr. Kelly is treating me now with Invisalign to salvage some teeth that I would eventually lose per early bone loss discovered in his careful Xray review.
