My experience is a perfect example of lawyers taking advantage of everyday hardworking people who need their services. This lawyer group also covers family law. My review is for Melissa Wheeler Hoff, Esq. After a 30-min free consultation, and an ineffectual $400 one hour consultation, Mrs. Hoff refused to allow me to retain her services because she knew that the simple services I needed from her (just a demand letter to support legal communication w other party), would cause her company to have to waive the consultation fee and eventually also refund me the majority of the retainer fee. She claimed to be concerned for how I spent my money on legal services, but failed to acknowledge that unused retainer funds are refunded and that I would likely receive most of my money back if I retained her for the minimal needs for her services. I wrote this review months ago and I am just now getting around to posting it. I have to add a few things: I did not realize that I was dealing with brain damage when they were able to get me money. Sure, I was told I had bleeds in my brain and at some point was like WTF, now you tell me. They had told me before. OK. Here is the reason for the addition the the review I have ready to paste: So I put on YouTube and see a movie I watched when healing after the accident (I am fighting back tears), its like watching something I saw when I was drunk or something. My mind was healing. Johnson's let me just heal, watch TV and get things that I needed. I found out later, because I was healing when I was doing this, it was part of my recovery. God bless them and God bless America. Injury. When I was almost killed by an 18 year old on a Hwy that is known for deadly crashes (many people end up drowning from the river that runs along it after they have a car accident), I was thankful and lucky to be alive. After the accident I had brain bleeds, a broken wrist, a shattered femur, etc. The person who hit me had the min insurance required by law to drive. The min insurance in required in CA is not enough. I was confused why the person who hit me only had $50,000 in insurance when my medical bills were several hundred thousand dollars and my car was totaled. Luckily my dad was in contact with Johnson's Attorney Group for legal help. In my recovery I was given the option to sue a 18 yr old kid with no money or assets. It would have been ..... difficult. I contacted a religious community by phone that helps people in crisis no mater what God they believed in, if any. I spoke with a gentleman and we talked about my situation. I told him I would feel bad if I sued a 18 year old kid, however if I did not sue him, would he ever learn!? As well, in trying to figure out what to do, I contacted a lady who was a lawyer in TX. She said the min insurance required in CA is way more that the min req in TX. She said in her line of work it hurts to have to contact the loved one after an accident and tell them the amount of money avail for the death/loss of limbs is $20,000 give or take. Wow. So almost anyone involved in a major accident is faced with a lack of insurance coverage from the person who hit them. The guy on the phone (from the religious community) understood my situation and was "God sent". I decided not to sue the kid even though it looked like after my medical/lawyer bills there would be no money left over for my "pain and suffering". I gave the OK. I would not sue and told my lawyer to basically "see what they could do" with the $50,000. It took me well over 6 months to "sign off" and accept the guys insurance and not sue him. I hoped by him waiting to see if he was going to be sued or not (him, along with the two other people who were on his insurance), that he would not think its OK to almost kill someone because the insurance will cover it. So with my $50,000 in coverage and my near $300,000 in bills it was looking like I would not get any money for pain and suffering. And what about the medical bills? Johnson Attorney Group went above and beyond many time to help me. They were able to talk down my medical costs' several times. They were able to talk off all of my interest on bills from the accident. So after I decided to forgive the guy, my medical bills were covered, I was given over $20,000 for pain and suffering, as well I found out that the kid who hit me give me water and ibuprofen when I was pinned in the car. I was SO MAD I really wanted an apology from the guy who hit me. Well, I found out he gave me water and ibuprofen, so basically he DID apologize.
