The volunteers gave us what felt like a private tour, sharing not only the history of the station but also fascinating stories about Ocean City itself. We loved learning how the shoreline once came right up to the station, how the surfmen lived and worked, and how the station was brought back into service during World War II because of U-boats. The realistic mannequins, original equipment, and period rooms make it easy to imagine life there over a century ago. Best of all, admission is free, and it's clear the volunteers put their hearts into preserving this history. If you're visiting Ocean City, don't make the mistake we did and keep walking past it. It's absolutely worth a visit.

The historic life saving station in the north end of Ocean City is a pleasant journey into a bit of maritime history. You can still see some of the old life boats which were used in rescue attempts of people imperiled in and on the sea. The original kitchen and bedrooms are still here which were used by the men and women who worked at this facility and saved many a life over the years. Interesting enough - at one time this life saving station was directly on the beach and ocean but the years have shifted the sands and now it is a very long block inland from the water. I found this studio a few months ago when I decided to reinvent my July 24th for 2025. Last year on this day in 2024 I had surgery to remove the extra skin after losing 165lbs from 311.5lbs and the surgery I came home and unfortunately started bleeding internally and had to go back to the ER for additional surgery in total I lost 4 pints of blood and needed a transfusion. That day I spent most of the day stressed, panicked, unconscious/ in surgery for 10 plus hours unsure of what came next. I knew this year on July 24th I was gonna seize the day and do stuff relaxing and rejuvenating. This yoga session targeted stretching and zen through the class . There was a point where she mentioned to let go of the stuff that's behind us and release it and leave it at the beach. That moment felt great to really zone in the waves and everything at the shore to move past last year. The instructor was very attentive and made sure everyone understood each pose and directed us when to breathe. This was everything I needed for today, the beach setting and the yoga/zen. Having never been on a web cam before, I am able to use Zoom very effectively my phone or laptop for yoga where Erica and I see each other and speak to each other ... so it is just like having my own yoga instructor right next to me to give me instructions, encouragement, tweaks to my poses. Each month has a different theme, while July and August are focused on Jersey Shore beaches. We had a great time walking around and finding places at different beaches that we've seen. Everyrhing is pretty affordable, and because so many different artists are represented, there are things for everyone. I'd definitely recommend stopping in, and chatting with whoever is working the desk. They're crazy passionate about the artists and what they do.

After driving down, we were lucky to find free parking for my Audi on 11th Street, located just a block away from the boardwalk. Our walk began heading north, after which we turned around to travel south. During our stroll, we stopped at the Kite Loft to buy a hot air balloon and picked up a large bucket of fries from Thrashers (more details regarding the Kite Loft and Thrashers to come). In total, we tracked 6,000 steps. We had such a nice time that we agreed we will definitely return to experience more of the boardwalk in the future.

The driver announces the stops but not on a speaker, so if you don't hear it and you miss your stop, you're out of luck. Although on this trip we had a cantankerous regular who demanded we go back to her stop. It's $2.25 for a ride, cash, and we picked it up at the Borgata. The first bus got full but the next bus came 5 minutes later. It runs 24/7 but our concierge told us it stops at 6pm. Ask the riders what you want to know- they're more than happy to give you the scoop.

The jitneys were to run continuously from Icona in Diamond Beach to Reeds in Stone Harbor from 5pm to 10:30pm. (1) The jitneys arrived on time and early, and both were running while waiting for the first bus to fill. As it left, myself and guests on the jitney noticed it was not cool and asked the AC to be turned up. The driver, who barely spoke English, mentioned it was as high as can be, and because of the heat we needed to wait for it to cool down. Needless to say, it did not. As I and my guests got off the jitney, we were drenched in sweat because the AC never worked. I called the office and they assured me nothing was wrong and things would be fine. It never got better and the jitney never cooled down. (2) The continuous run between locations did not happen. One group of guests sat on the jitney at Icona for an hour waiting for the driver to leave, arriving to the event an hour and a half late because the driver wound not leave. (3) The AC Jitney Association culminated with the jitney that had the AC problem breaking down on the ride back to Icona at the end of the night. My guests were stranded on the side of the road for an hour waiting for the 2nd jitney to come get them. Police had to move the jitney to the side so it would not block traffic on a Friday evening. I contacted AC Jitney Association that night, the next day, and through email the week after the event and the problems, and NO ONE ever contacted me back. I paid $1000 for 2 jitneys, and only 1 was serviceable. No response from the company at all. I should have had the credit card company block payment, but I acted too late. Needless to say this experience will should be known to others who think they are contracting with a reputable company ... they are NOT, at least in my experience.
