Johnson's Bakery is really good, especially the cinnamon rolls. I believe they used Ceylon cinnamon instead of the more common cassia cinnamon. Very tasty. We tried a couple other items that were also good, but the cinnamon rolls were what got us back two days in a row while visiting Duluth. read more

Took a wrong turn and stumbled across this hidden gem of a bakery! My friend and I walked in and were greeted by a friendly fun lady by the name of Barb (aka: the owner). She had us smiling. We stopped in for a donut but ended up leaving with a dozen and two sugar cookies. The raised maple donut was a favorite of ours. However, all were tasty. The bakery appears to have been around for sometime. Small little clean bakery. Also, cannot beat the incredible prices. Will visit again when I'm back in the area. read more

One star only because that's the minimum you can pick. Should be zero. 1st visit. 9:45 am on a Saturday. Hours read 7-1 pm. Walked in, display cases/racks completely empty. Not a single, pastry, donut, loaf of bread on display. Nothing to indicate it's even in business other than the open door. Could hear people in then back but no one came forward. We happened to go on a very mediocre harbor cruise while visiting Duluth and the best part was the donuts they served - from Johnson's bakery. So of course we went to find it the next day. It's not in the nicest part of town and has an unassuming storefront but once you get inside it's such a cute place! I like the old tin ceilings. But more importantly - donuts. And all bakery items. It's all beautiful and delicious in here. There wasn't a bad thing we tried! My husband loved the cake donuts and peach filled danish. I was obsessed with the custard filled "honeymooner" I believe they are called. They're the best I've ever had in my life of any custard filled donut. Same goes for the peach cobbler donuts. We could not believe how insanely delicious they were! These are hands down the best donuts we have ever tried. So, on our way home, we stopped by again and got a big box to bring back to our family. The staff were so nice and helpful and talked to us and joked around - so did the customers! What a great establishment. The only downside - we don't live there. So now we are sitting at home wanting Johnson's Bakery donuts and...we can't have them. Withdrawals are imminent. Our family agrees - best donuts ever and now they want more! We were so excited to find an open bakery with actual pastries. I saw glorious cream puffs and ordered TWO! I figured I would barely be able to eat half at a time but they were filled with Real sweet whipped cream inside that I ate both right away. Oh the airy and cool delight! Husband ordered a Bavarian donut and chocolate eclair. He is very happy with his choices. Easy going, nice atmosphere even while masked and social distanced. read more

We were staying in Duluth for a couple days and after looking for a good bakery on Yelp we decided to give Johnson's a try. Cute little old fashion bakery with yummy donuts for a very fair price. They were huge & delicious!! My husband got a cup of coffee and we were able to sit inside and enjoy our treats. Of course we got some to go! Breads & coffeecakes, pie all looked DELICIOUS but we had walked so only bought what we could carry. I wish this place was in my hometown! I assume it was the owners that waited on us and they were very nice people. Please give them a try, you won't be disappointed. read more

I stop here once a week to get my doughnuts fix on. Great doughnuts made on site. They also sell cupcakes and all sorts of baked goods. If u are not from the Duluth area, this is a must stop in the morning. Only problem is get here early cuz they tend to sellout - which is a good thing! We came here on a trip looking for a great doughnut and coffee place and stumbled upon Johnson's Bakery. We were welcomed with a great deal of attitude from an employee who did not want to help us. Took us 5 minutes to get a box of donuts due to the employee refusing to listen/see what donuts we were asking for. The coffee there was trash. Only 2 kinds of coffee and the one my 2 friends and I really wanted ran out before we got any and the same employee made us get the other kind so she could replace it as soon as we left. There isn't a good set up of cream, rather powdered cream and sugar either. Doughnuts were good. Experience with crappy employees, what a shame. read more

A cute and tasty little bakery, specializing in sweets (donuts, rolls, danishes, etc.) on the east side of the Lincoln Park / West End neighborhood. Hard to believe they're still there given all the other independent bakery closings, so they must be doing something right. No matter what time we go here they are practically sold out. But the staff is super nice and there seems to be some sort of men's group that hangs out drinking coffee. Since we can never make it in time for the donuts we were forced to try the the peanut butter cookies(A+) and this huge thing that I think is a croissant cinnamon twist (A+). The food was great, but the young woman working there yesterday was unbelievable. As we sat and ate our wonderful scone and cinnamon roll we watched her take individual care of every person that came in. She held doors, knew exactly what everyone would want, helped a handicapped lady with her car and held the front door open for her.
