Carol called us to make sure we were making it up ok. When we arrived at Carlson's Lodge Carol met us to check us in. We hadn't eaten yet and she called a nearby restaurant to see if they could still take us. She also helped us plan our entire day for the next day. She had really good suggestions of different hikes we could do in our time frame. She then took us to our room which had a door code instead of a key which I really liked. She also said that one bed was firm and one bed was plush. This place was perfect for our one night stay. The only thing I would note is there is not a fridge in the room. The lodge was so close to Mt. Willard, the Cog Railway, the Mt Washington Hotel and others. It was a very convenient location and Carol made our stay so much better, would definitely stay again!

They cleaned my room the next day. They have bigger units with kitchenettes as well as a jacuzzi suite. The owners have been running this place for 35 years and have a lovely dog. This place has manicured grounds and flowers so wonderful you can smell them the second you step outside. They have a play area for kids, horse shoe toss, a volleyball net, walking trails, BBQ, fire pit, picnic area (the last 3 overlook a river which you can swim in. The river was low when I was here but I still went in and when I sat down it was chest height.) They also have a screened in area with a picnic table if it happens to be buggy. Plenty of outdoor seating. Bring your own fire wood. Also, bring your own firewood if you book a room with a fireplace. They don't sell it here anymore, but you can buy it down the road at Fosters. I did & it wasn't a hassle at all. You can hear the river from your room and it's so relaxing. I can't stress enough how much of a difference not being on the main road makes. The serenity of the Seven Dwarfs really made this trip. Their website says they offer a breakfast, but the owner said they no longer do that (like they no longer have fire wood here) because it's just he & his wife running the place and he's getting older and has to work nights. When I heard him say that, I really wasn't disappointed at all. I mean, stuff like having to drive down the road for food might seem like an inconvenience to some people, but you're staying in northern NH. Part of the draw is the down to earth community. If you want to stay in some bourgeoisie hotel chain, maybe the Twin Mountains area isn't for you. Anyways, there are many other places to eat for cheap around here, and my room had a fridge. You can always stay in a unit with a kitchenette if you want to make yourself food Like another user said, the theme is cute and kitsch without going overboard. This motel isn't cabin style, but I had neighbors on either side of me and I couldn't hear them at all. It felt secluded and very cosy. I didn't expect that and as a light sleeper, I probably wouldn't have stayed more than 1 night. It was a great price & location from The Cog Railway, 20 minutes away. Several locations in that area require a 2 or 3 night minimum stay at least due to NH's ski tourism.

She's knowledgeable of local food, hiking and other things to do in the area. The atmosphere is charming and Sarah has preserved much of the previous owner's photos of happy golf groups. The dining room is large but only about 15 tables have a view of the river and the old bridge. If you're going to come out, I would suggest asking to reserve one of them.
