I brought my vehicle to Butler Body Shop after a non-fault accident because I heard they were…read moredecent to work with. That was not my experience at all. If you value your time, money, and vehicle, do not use this shop without getting absolutely everything in writing first. Here is what happened: Inflating the Estimate After Starting Work: They were instructed to estimate the accident damage. Once insurance approved the initial breakdown and gave the green light to proceed, the shop started working. It was only during this process that they began adding ridiculous, unrelated "damage"--tiny scratches and minor dents that had absolutely nothing to do with the accident and weren't even near the actual impact area. They claimed this was necessary for painting, but it was a complete cash grab. They artificially inflated the estimate so high to benefit themselves that my insurance company ultimately decided to total the vehicle. Hidden Storage Fees: While insurance was figuring out the new totaled payoff figure based on the shop's bloated estimate, storage fees were naturally racking up. Because I bought the vehicle back, insurance would not cover the accumulated storage or the teardown labor, leaving me stuck with the bill. Had the shop communicated any of these mounting fees to me, I would have pulled my car off their lot immediately and realized what they were doing much sooner. Completely Stripped and Demanded a Ransom: Because there was zero mechanical damage and the actual structural damage was incredibly minimal, I opted to buy my vehicle back. When I went to retrieve it, I discovered they had completely stripped the exterior of my car--doors, windows, and exterior panels were all taken apart under the guise of painting. They then had the audacity to quote me an astronomical amount (more than it cost to buy the car back) just to put it back together the way it was when I dropped it off. Zero Professionalism: Since I am mechanically inclined, there was no way I was paying their ridiculous fee just for reassembly. Because I refused, they handed my car back to me completely gutted, throwing absolutely all of the panels, parts, and pieces into the back of the vehicle in a total disaster of a pile. I am currently trying to piece my own car back together, praying that every single screw and clip is even in there. This shop does not operate with honesty or a consumer-first mindset; they are purely looking to maximize their dollar. They went completely above and beyond to pad the bill, and none of this excessive quoting, storage, or teardown was ever properly communicated to me. Take this as a warning: Do not let them touch your vehicle unless you have a finalized, completed quote in writing, and do not leave your vehicle on their lot. They will take absolute advantage of the situation.

They quoted the insurance company $31,000 to fix a 2016 F150. So of course our insurance company totaled the vehicle. That is not even the worse part. The worst part is they charged us $4,800 for "storage" and washing the car, oh and the estimate. They never disclosed that information before we dropped off the truck so we were completely blindsided by that amount. In my opinion they completely shafted us and now we essentially are out $4800. Please do not give them your business, they are more interested in getting every single penny they can get and do not care about customer service. If they did they would have rectified the situation and given us a heads up about the storage fees.

My vehicle is in very good condition considering its age, and I am not willing to get rid of it to buy new. So I started my journey looking for and visiting body shops. I had spent two months and over 20 phone calls to body shops in the Fort Wayne surrounding areas. Seventy percent of them said they do NOT do rust repair. In Indiana - really?? Out of the Thirty percent that did do rust repair, they either gave me very high estimates, refused to give me an estimate up front, or claimed I needed more work done that was necessary. A few of them were just plain unreliable or shady. Then I found Hartman's. Known today as The Toy Shed. Ethan is one of the owners. Upon stopping by their clean shop, Ethan actually came out and went under my vehicle to do a more thorough check of the rust situation. He gave me a preliminary written estimate while I was there. It was a very fair estimate. He is knowledgeable, and one of the most honest young men I have had the pleasure of doing business with in a long time. They not only completed all the work in a timely manner, but did some extras at no additional charge for most of it. He said they cut out all the rust before welding on the new. This is what you need for the job to be done right. He took pictures also, so I could see the hidden rust places and some of the phases of the job. Ethan was patient and available to answer all my questions. When ever he said he would call me, he did! From the paperwork, to the communications, to the body work; it was all professional, honest, fair, and well done. One of the only shops left in the area that does honest, good, rust repair. They will be the body shop I turn to in the future. I was told that they also do insurance/collision repair. I highly recommend Hartman's/Toy Shed for auto body or rust repair.
