As a former avid runner with a very on-the-go lifestyle, she thoughtfully incorporated exercises I could realistically do in my day-to-day routine, while still helping me rebuild the strength my ACL needed. She was always incredibly attentive--constantly monitoring my knee, paying close attention to every detail, and taking thorough notes. I truly appreciated how invested she was in my recovery. I saw Katelyn for pelvic floor physical therapy over the course of nine months or so. During my first appointment I was extremely nervous, but she insisted that we don't do anything that makes me feel uncomfortable. Throughout all of my visits she was very friendly, answered all of my questions, and extremely caring. Scheduling was pretty straightforward, although in the later months it seemed harder to get an appointment last minute and had to schedule a few weeks in advance for more popular times. However they did have a system where you can be added to the waitlist for a time and you will get emailed to see if you want to take that appointment which I thought was nice read more

The owners of the gym I go to recommended Keith Foley at Joint Ventures for wrist pain after I had struck out with a physician who diagnosed me with a muscle strain, suggested I wear a splint for several weeks, and said that in the future I should use "the machines" at the gym instead of lifting free weights and doing pushups. I dutifully wore the splint for over a month, but it didn't help, and I was disappointed with the physician's advice regarding my exercise routine. Besides my wrist pain, I had issues with chronic low back pain that had significantly worsened postpartum that I needed to address. The Joint Ventures administrative staff were courteous, organized and made sure everything was squared away with my insurance before setting up my appointments. As for the PT care, I found Keith to be a compassionate, skilled provider who was always receptive to questions and I really appreciate the time he took to explain the rationale behind the exercises and interventions he chose for me. He even took the time to contact the trainer I work with at the gym to make sure my exercise program was safe and effective for me. Thanks to Keith, I can now take care of my kid without pain and am back in the gym, enjoying lifting weights again. read more

I had a bizarre calf muscle injury (only felt pain when I run) and went to an orthopedic doctor for it. They couldn't figure out what was wrong with me, but told me to go to PT. After doing some research about PT places near work, I found Joint Ventures. I'm so glad I did! Beth was amazing! During the first appointment she diagnosed the issue and worked with me to show me exercises to change the way I run and eliminate the pain. She was very knowledgeable and easy to get along with on top of it. The main thing I loved about Joint Ventures was the 1 on 1 style. Instead of having everyone in a room with co-ops, I always had an appointment with a licensed physical therapist who devoted all her attention to me during that half hour. Appointments were extremely easy to make, and the whole staff was extremely friendly. I highly recommend going here for any PT and especially recommend Beth. read more

I began coming here February 2014 for shoulder pain. I've seen/see Casey Heffernan, an incredible physical therapist. I'm a curious case, but Casey hasn't given up, and she continues to work hard to ensure maximum results. When one thing does not work, Casey quickly moves on to the next one. She's also pretty easy to schedule and even easier to contact if something doesn't go as expected. DO: -Ask questions. It is your body, and it can only get better if you know why things are going wrong. The information she gives you will only benefit you. -Be friendly! Casey is very approachable, and it can be boring and weird for her to work on you when you're both silent for weeks--or months--on end. -Do the home exercises. Physical therapy can only work if you continue the therapy within your home context. Teachers give homework to reinforce what is taught. Baseball players go to batting cages to reinforce batting. Yoga teachers go to yoga to perfect their craft. Your body deserves as much, if not more, dedication than your trade. DON'T: -Come late and expect to be accommodated. -Complain that you aren't making progress if you aren't trying to get better by doing the home exercises--at HOME! -Be rude. That's a general life rule, but some people need a reminder. I have nothing but great things to say about Casey. The Joint Ventures phone operators can sometimes be rude on weekends, but my experiences with Casey and the desk staff at JVPT have been great. FYI: There is not a weekend answering machine (though the operators will swear to you that there is...), so email if you have to cancel, and make sure you put the date and a time stamp, so that you know you've canceled within the time-frame JVPT requires. I hurt my shoulder and coudn't lift a thing. The doc said I needed Physical Therapy, said it looked like a rotator cuff injury. Sara Whitney diagnosed me and based on my movement and soreness, she determined that the 3 tendons/ligaments in front of the shoulder were inflamed. She said the goal was to reduce the swelling and strengthen the muscles around it. Only 1 word to describe my experience with Sara: PHENOMENAL! Sara Whitney is amazing. I have gone to other physical therapists for years and never really believed in their ability. I hate physical therapists who hook you up to a machine and wander off. I hate physical therapists who have no knowledge and don't make me feel better. Sara is SUPER smart, she knows he stuff inside and out. She starts each session hands on and really digs in to get the soreness and stiffness out. As she does it, she describes what she's doing in full detail. She made me turn my arm left, right, upside down and would find the messed up ligaments/tendons. With each appointment, I saw improvement. She also gave me very pointed exercises to do at home. She had me repeat them in person and then gave me "homework". It was all very engaging and it worked. In the process, she ended up fixing my posture! I have had bad posture my entire life, not any more! She spent so much time with me, to the point where my muscle memory took over. I have almost ZERO neck pain, which is a state I have never been in! To top it all off, Sara is a very nice person. She got to know me, made me feel comfortable and is an overall really nice person to hang out with. I feel as if I've gained a friend, not just a physical therapist. The location is hard to beat, in downtown area, there are few options. The copay was a little high for me, but it was worth it. 2 months later and my shoulder feels like a million bucks. Nicole is friendly, knowledgable and unbelievably strong. Having a pinched neck she's found muscles righted into spots I've never even known existed. Hours are pretty convenient. 7am and open Tuesdays and Thursdays till 7pm. A orthopedic sports medicine doctor at Children's Hospital Sports Medicine recommended them and I'm happy after my second visit. I've been in pain for weeks and slowly it's getting better!! Worth a try!! Plus it's in Boston Sports Club. NO EXCUSE for me now not to hit the gym during eat like a Turkey season! read more

I had the most amazing massage by Russell. This guy knows sports massage inside and out. He could tell things right away about me during the massage and did a great job. This is definitely sports massage so be ready to have work done! He's excellent at what he does and makes you feel very comfortable. I immediately booked my next massage on my way out. Don't waste your money, go somewhere else! I decided to go to Joint Ventures because I started to hear a clicking/popping noise in my right knee, when walking up stairs. Before going to PT, the pain associated with this noise was minimal. After a month of seeing one of Joint Ventures' PTs the pain had increased and the PT still had yet to figure out what was exactly wrong with it. Two weeks later, he finally admitted he didn't know what was going on, and recommended that I see one of his coworkers. The new coworker told me I had been doing the exercises completely wrong, i.e. I had wasted all that personal free time doing what I thought was the correct exercises, while in reality they had 0 effect on my knee. Admittedly the new PT was significantly better, he actually took his time with me, and didn't rush me out after 30 minutes. I started doing the "corrected" exercises, however still did not have any improvements and the new PT still was not entirely sure what was going with my knee. I then decided to go to my Dad's PT who has been in the business for years (who works at a completely different PT facility) and within minutes was able to accurately tell me what was going on with knee. He told me I had been strengthening the completely wrong muscles and making the situation worse. He gave me a completely new set of excessive and I actually NOW, after over 2 months and hundreds of dollars in the trash, see improvements! In conclusion, this practice is an embarrassment. read more

Joint Ventures has a completely different model than any other PT facility I have seen, and unfortunately, I have seen a lot of PT facilities. Here, you work one on one with a dedicated physical therapist - no interns, no assistants, no other clients. At each session, you focus right in on specific therapies to help you get better. I was amazed at all of the different manual treatments I was given and even more amazed at how well they worked. This is not supervised exercise class like other facilities. This is serious medical treatment. JV also has a great network, so if you need something else (acupuncture, massage, personal training, etc.) they will make sure you get it. My specific therapist, Cameron, was particularly knowledgeable. He was the first to correctly diagnose my injury after 6 months, 2 previous doctors, and 2 previous PT's. All I can say is that I wish I had gone here first. read more

After years of no chronic injuries, I managed to rupture two disks in my lower spine, get tendonitis in my ankle, and injure my hip. After a complete round of PT for the ankle and hip that got me nowhere at MGH and two failed attempts to find someone good at the NE Baptist Spine Center and Kennedy Brothers, I found Chris at JV. He is fantastic. The back pain is completely gone and we're making steady progress on the hip and ankle issues. He has a careful, reasoned approach and it works! read more

I'm so excited to hear that Craig Hamilton just started in this location at Joint Ventures! I began seeing Craig about two years ago in his previous location, and have never had close to a bad experience with him. I am a regular runner, and have lower back pains, leg pain, and neck pain. His pressure is perfect! Not too little, and not too much. In that great sweet spot. His deep tissue is amazing (which in the past I have had difficulties with). He gave my great advice at what I should be doing at home to help me in-between visits, the stretches he gave me; I still use to this day. After one appointment with him all my pain was close to removed. I left on cloud nine. I knew right then I would never go to anyone else. The skills he possess are far greater than any other Massage Therapist I have been to before. If you are in the Financial District area, I cannot recommend him enough. I can't wait to come pay him a visit. Joint Ventures in Post Office Square is so conveniently located, how could I not! It's extremely accessible by every train line. I went here because I had a deep, personal relationship with someone before this person became my PT. This PT worked in a sports club that I am a member. Mixing personal and business relationships is never a good idea. We had a fallout, so I had to look for another PT. I just stumbled upon Joint Ventures by accident. I have been googling for other PT sites months before my fallout just for kicks but I had never noticed them before. Joint Ventures PT at One Beacon Street is just one of the many branches of JV. I saw on their website that all their PT services are one-on-one and that was what attracted me to this place. My physical therapist at Joint Ventures was Scott Hannigan, a DPT who graduated from University of Vermont. U of VT, from what I read, is a top 50 PT school so I decided to try him out. His sessions were one-on-one and his room was completely private. He practices inside Fitcorp, a pretty decent gym. Also, Scott uses a lot more soft tissues and active releases, unlike most physical therapist. Other PTs do not like doing soft tissue or active releases because they do not like to be thought of as a glorified massage therapist. They would prefer that their patients do home exercises, e-Stim or ultrasound. Not Scott. He was very hands-on. He combined all forms of treatment in healing my problem areas. I noticed great improvement with my elbow within a week. When he found out that my elbow has been bothering me for a year, he used a different approach than my past PTs. Instead of doing active releases for my muscle tissues, he performed active releases for my scar tissues. Our activities and exercises were far different than my past sessions with other therapists. Scott does only one body part in each session but he does use the whole 30 minutes at its fullest. I had other PTs before who would only work with you for fifteen minutes when I had a problem with one area only. He was also the most articulate PT that I have ever met. When he was explaining to me what my problems were, I understood him completely,. His explanations were thorough. He was like those great professors in college that you never forget because they taught you well and they taught you in a way that you remember the lesson for the rest of your life. He also described in detail what I would expect and the kinds of therapies that he would be using and their effects -- good or bad (e.g., pain). There were no surprises with Scott, only great results. Scott healed my elbow. His personal and customized approach worked best for me. I never thought that my elbow would heal completely. Note: Scott H is no longer there. He was recruited by a better firm up north. However, there are other good PTs within JV. Scott recommended Erica Palmer before he left. Erica's review will come later but my early impressions (as well my officemate's who is also seeing Erica) on her are pretty high. read more

I'm a 29 F, active adult. I've experienced chronic back and joint issues for a while, mostly due to my active lifestyle. I've been seeing Dave Carleton for the last year or so for a variety of muscular skeletal injuries. One was for two slipped discs in my lower back and for tendonitis around my rotator cuff. Dave treated me for both injuries and did an excellent job at working with me towards full recovery. When I say full recovery, I do not mean only to basic function and mobility. I was adamant with Dave about recovering towards full strength again, because I am very active and demand a lot from my body. Dave helped me track my progress and work towards my goals in a timely manner. Our sessions were usually a combination of soft tissue work (massage) and reviewing exercises and questions. He is focused and aims to educate his patients on how to manage their pain and body well after physical therapy. He is communicative, empathetic, and attentive. My only request was that I wish JV had a longer business model for treatment sessions (45 minutes), because it does seem like their therapists are stretched pretty thin throughout the day, but I felt like Dave did an excellent job to make sure he gave each of his patients the full 30 minute sessions they needed. I would also love a way continue to do "check ins" after a patient is discharged because some injuries do come back (ie: lower back and tendonitis), and it would be great to continue to work with Dave. I am super grateful for Dave for working with me towards fixing my body. read more

I decided to visit JVPT for therapy after seeing the reviews on here. I had been in quite a bit of pain and discomfort due to a neck injury, and while the pain had subsided prior to my first visit, there was still discomfort and tingling in my fingers. After a few sessions, there was tremendous improvement. Based on my experiences, I would recommend Lauren. Katie was also very nice at the front desk. The overall environment was good. When Lauren was working on my neck, I felt secure that she wouldn't injure it or aggravate the injury. She was gentle and my neck is a lot more relaxed as a result, with the numbness in my fingers dissipating quite a bit in a very short period of time. read more

I have seen at least 5 therapists over the past 10 years for issues with my shoulders. Sara Whitney was the best, by far. She listened to my experience and was very hands-on in identifying and addressing my problem. She was very knowledgeable and explained everything she was doing. She gave me exercises to do at home and made sure I could do them correctly before leaving. I was not very optimistic when I started because I had been having problems for well over a year, and my prior therapy did not work. But after only 2 sessions I saw some improvement. After 8 weeks I was back to normal. If I ever need PT again, I will go right back to Sara. read more

Went here for PT after meniscus surgery. Tried two different people. Both showed me a couple of things to do at home and rushed me out. No physical therapy. Spent 30 minutes with me. We did not do any PT while I was there. I said I needed PT and ice after PT. Didn't get either. Waste of time and money. read more

I started PT with Lauren in February 2015 after doing something to my knee during a super long training run in the snow and ice. She was so supportive right from the beginning and provided excellent service throughout all of our sessions that helped me get better and stronger. While training for a marathon, I developed severe pain in my knee and thought I'd have to stop training. Lauren in the Post Office Sq. location was a true partner in diagnosing the situation and developing a treatment plan that allowed me to finish training and run the race. She not only helped alleviate the pain in the short-term, she helped me create a plan for the long-term. Katie on the front desk took care of everything for me and was always so pleasant and proactive in scheduling my appointments. Russell was absolutely FANTASTIC! He had no trouble putting on the pressure, but was still very receptive as to whether it was too much for me. He knew exactly where I was feeling pain and how to relieve it. Russell also had a great sense of humor. I would highly recommend him for a massage! I started PT with Lauren after ankle surgery in November 2014. When I began, I was non weight-bearing and basically immobile. By the end, I was running and jumping and able to do most of the activities I used to do pre-surgery. During the course of PT, Lauren was encouraging but tough, challenging me with new exercises. For the type of surgery I had, the doctor was so impressed with my recovery time, and I really owe it all to Lauren! I've had prior sports injuries that required PT but after treating with Lauren, I'm mad I hadn't known about joint ventures sooner! read more

I can't say enough great things about Joint Ventures! I saw Lauren for PT after injuring my ankle this winter. In each of our sessions, she helped me understand the PT treatment while also telling me what I could do at home to speed up the recovery. Lauren took the time to explain my MRI to me more clearly than my doctor and she was thoughtful in her approach to helping me get back to running as quickly as possible without overdoing it. Since getting back to running/exercising was my goal, I appreciated that she took the time to tell me exercises every week that I could do without putting too much strain on my ankle. Lauren genuinely cares about each of her patients' progress, and she's very friendly so going to PT never feels like a chore. All JVPT staff have been really kind and knowledgeable, and it's great for those who have to leave work for appointments because they always make sure that your appointment starts and ends on time.
