The Western Avenue station is my favorite because it is on a boulevard and that's a pretty tough location to beat! This station seems to get quite a bit of light on sunnier days. I think it has a more comfortable feel to it than the Kedzie and Ashland stations. Those stations feel "tucked away" to me - - and not in a cozy-feel type of way. This station has the usual escalator/stairways along with an elevator. I deducted a star because that elevator was out - of - order for about a month last year. Also, it was out another time and no one bothered to put a sign on the platform elevator door--wasted minutes waiting for an elevator that was not working! I have since found out that you can sign up for alerts regarding the elevators--it's nice to know in advance if they aren't working. The first couple of times that I added money to my CTA card on the Ventra vending machines, I asked the CTA attendants for assistance. Both times they were very kind and did not make me feel like I was bothering them. Sometimes people in this sort of job can do that! Luckily, not the case here. They were pleasant, helpful and willing to assist. There is a Dunkin Donuts in this station, which could be a plus, however, according to the current reviews on this DD Yelp business page, it could also be a disappointment. There are connections to four bus routes at this station : #35 (31st/35th Street), #39 (Pershing Road), #50 (Damen Avenue) and #62 (Archer Avenue). When there's a White Sox game this station is jam packed. As for the flip side, if there's not a game it's pretty quiet around here. There's also other ways to get to the stadium, but this is the most convenient and fastest usually. Among the things going on around here, there's nothing that tops a White Sox game. It serves the Red Line. The station is located in the middle of the Dan Ryan Expressway, so it's noisy. A benefit from being outdoors is the fresh air. There's not a bad smell. It's a pretty long station, stretching between 33rd and 35th so you have to give yourself plenty of time to get in and out. This is a much better way of getting to a game instead of using gas and paying outrageous parking prices, so you have more money for outrageous concession prices. Getting to the White Sox games is convenient from here. It's among a few public transportation options, along with the L station on the Green Line, and Metra. These plentiful choices means it's usually not a long wait for trains.

The downside is you have to use the ParkMobile app to renew your parking and the app is awful. The major issue is you can only renew your parking until midnight, or immediately after midnight. So if you're parking overnight, you must be awake at 12:01am to renew your parking for another 12 hours. Needless to say, 3 days in a row, that is unsatisfactory. Unfortunately the app does not let you know that in advance; you simply find out at 11pm when you want to go to sleep and realize you can only renew parking for 59 minutes unless you try again after midnight. My car was safe for the three days it was at Kedzie. But the surrounding are is a neighborhood to avoid at night, with all due respect. Note: the lot is on the north side of the CTA station. It is not marked with a sign at the entrance. It is hard to find by driving. But if you circle the perimeter of the station to the north you'll see it.

If the CTA really tried to make the OrangeLine as unique as they wanted it to be, they surely succeeded with this station, thanks to the flowers and trees here. This station allows you to connect to four bus routes #47, 51, 51A, and 52. Next to the south side of the station is a strip mall containing Aldi, Kmart, and several other nice stores. AJ Wright just closed all their stores so it's gone. Overall, five stars all around. Great station on one of the CTA's safest L lines.

Even though the area isn't great it's not all bad or anything. The trains get here every few minutes. It seems to be one of the better stations in the area. It serves the Red Line. This also has great access to busses as many come to the bus stops just outside the entrance of this elevated station. It's also clean. There's not that bad smell like at underground stations. Also this above ground station gives you a good view of the surrounding area. This happens to be in the middle of the Dan Ryan Expressway so you can see cars whizz by and maybe see crashes or something else interesting. Good as far as transit stations go. It's cleaner than most others around here. This is mostly quiet except for the traffic and it's for the most part safe.

I don't usually use the 47th street station, riding to Garfield instead on my weekly trek down to the U of C campus. Today, flush with the pheromones of change, I took a different bus route home that took me to the 47th street station. This station was clean, neat and extremely well lit. In front, near the bus waiting area, was a giant flat screen showing the CTA bus tracker arrival schedule for the routes that serve this station - CTA Buses #15, #24, #47, #51. Beautiful! Walking inside the station, was another flat screen TV showing Red line northbound and southbound arrivals. Mon dieu! This is a beautiful thing for People Like Me that have not scurried down the iPhone rabbit hole just yet. Both of these TVs worked, and were *not* splattered with effluvial swill!! In my happiness at seeing this efficiency, I dared to dream that all Red line stations would be quickly outfitted with these features - yet wistfully wondered how long it would be before the screens got broken and/or stolen. But at any rate . . . this station is a score for the CTA.

It's nice feeling a breeze from the whizzing cars sometimes. Also forget about it being between the neighborhoods of Englewood and Grand Crossing. The station actually might be the safest place around here. As far as stations, this is the one with the coolest name so it's great for selfies and funny pics for Instagram. It serves the Red Line. This is the first station north of the 95th Street terminal. It doesn't get too busy at this station at rush hour. Mainly because there's not many people going to work. In all seriousness it's not close to anything. There's a few fast food places and pawn shops. Most people get on at 95th and ride on through here. The station itself is surprisingly clean and there's not a bad smell because it's outside. Be aware of the shady ass characters. It has a few but not as many as expected. This Line is the busiest so there's never a long wait for trains.

My only negative with this station or just metra is my train came 8 minutes early and it didn't stay at the station until the scheduled time. Wtf?

My review for this Metra station has nothing to do with the commuter aspect of it but for the nerd…read morerail aspect of it. If your a train nerd and want to know about this station, it's a station on the edge of a rail yard that had three types of rail service. There is the diesel Metra trains, the all electric Metra trains and freight trains all running in the area. There is public access from all around the station and platforms with the all electrics stopping across the street in its own little station. You never know what to expect train wise but the Metra trains you can count on and hopefully some freight trains will show up. The Metra police are super gung ho and stopped me with my camera to ask what I was doing and warn you that when you step from pubic space into rail space that you will be arrested on the spot, easy there Barney fife I'm on the side walk and I have no plans to crawl on the tracks because that's stupid and very dangerous. Overall it's it's a busy rail area around the station with a nice amount happening in the station area with plenty of public access so you will not get in any trouble, Barney fife is sneaky because he pounces on you from the fringes pretty quick, I watched him do it to another person while I was there.
