It's a small Metra station that serves the Metra Electric line, which means it's one of those few that goes to Millennium Station, not Ogilvie or Union. The 111th Street Station is located in Zone C for Metra fare purposes. It's one of the least busy in the entire Metra system--apparently there are fewer than 50 people boarding here on average each day. Given its infrequent use, there aren't any services here; you won't find an agent, but on the other hand that means that if you have to buy your ticket on the train you won't pay a surcharge for buying it from the conductor. Parking isn't available for this station but there are CTA bus connections. Most unfortunately, this station is not at all accessible. There's 30+ steps to the platform, but you won't find an elevator here, I'm afraid, so if you need one you'd be better served by finding another station to use.

This is just a stop along the way to downtown, or going to the South suburbs. It doesn't have a…read moreworking ticket machine, or much in the way of ambiance, but there are benches to sit and wait. During cold or rainy weather, there is a corridor to stand in (if the aroma isn't overpowering, or if there aren't "visitors") and keep warm or dry. I haven't experienced the elevator being out at this locationn, but I have at other stations. You can sign up to get alerts. It's just nice to know in advance if you are going to be inconvenienced by an out-of-order elevator. You can connect to the Western Avenue CTA Bus #49 at this station. Also, this Western Orange Line Station is a stop for the #48 CTA Bus (S. Damen Avenue) and #94 CTA Bus (S. California Avenue). Of course it's not in a terrific location, but it's mostly clean and safe. Lots of busses to get onto from here. There's a large area for shelter while waiting for one. A better than expected location, and it's usually pretty fast coming or going. It serves the Orange Line. The station is located in Gage Park. Even though it has a bad history, it's still an improving area. This is at 49th and Western. Best about this is how fast it is to get through here. This is the one that goes all the way to Midway, the other Chicago airport that gets unappreciated. Getting there is a lot faster. Stops like this are one of the reasons. It has fewer, meaning the trains come a lot more often. This station is pretty clean for as busy as it gets, and it doesn't have a bad smell. Getting to Midway is convenient from here. It's only a few stops away, and if you're getting off here there's lots of busses to take you places. There's usually not a long wait for trains.

This station on the Metra Electric line is a bit dated but it is still one of the better stations…read moreat this end of the line. It is usually clean and it's convenient to the Olympia Fields Post Office, Olympia Fields Country Club, as well as several subdivisions. If you're a member of the country club, there's access to the club directly from the station; you can park on the club grounds instead of the Metra lot. This stop is perfect if you're staying downtown and you want to attend one of the many golf functions at the club without the hassle of driving. The parking lot is a decent size and it has more than one entrance/exit which helps the flow of traffic. As of this writing, parking is $1.25 paid at old fashioned pay boxes where you have to fold a dollar three times over to squeeze out into the narrow slot. There are no monthly passes available for parking. There are no ticket machines at this location either so you'll need to buy your ticket on the train. Once this station is remodeled to include some of the amenities available at other stations it will be the jewel of the south suburbs.

It's been almost 10 years since my previous review. In that time the Miller station has…read morecompletely transformed thanks to the South Shore Double Track project that completed in May 2024. There's now a larger inside waiting area that folks can wait at for the upcoming trains which now can pass either through Track 1 or 2 (hence the Double Track). Train arrival times can still be unreliable at times but generally now seating is more available though it gets overcrowded again by the time it rolls into East Chicago and Hammond. Initially there was confusion over whether a train would arrive on Track 1 or 2 and at times you'd have to scramble quickly to the other track. But that's gotten better. Overall trip times to and from Millennium have gotten better even though not at the times promised by the new schedules. But they seem to be working on that as they continue to make modifications to the schedule. Good job South Shore!

If you're unfamiliar with the South Shore, you need to know that the Miller station is cash only on…read morethe train. Unlike other stations, the Miller NICTD station does not have a booth or vending, so you must have cash-money in hand when you board. In my experience, the South Shore is generally on time, but don't be surprised if the train is running three, five, ten, or 15 minutes late. It happens. But what's more frustrating is when the train is early. As inconvenient as it sounds, I suggest arriving a minute or two early and maintaining a patient disposition. Ample parking is available as long as you're willing to walk a little bit. I've left my car overnight on several occasions without incident, but I was more than a little nervous each time. I recommend troubling a friend for a ride if you won't be back the same day. As for the actual structure, the station itself is a Miller landmark. I've given directions or estimated arrival times from the Miller NICTD station a zillion times. And every winter I look forward to the fresh greenery, red bows, and twinkling lights at the Miller station as I approach Lake Street from highway 12. Lots of people can't stop hating on the South Shore, but in my opinion, these are folks who take public transportation for granted. Why not crack open a can of beer and let someone else do the driving?
