    Sasha haircut
    Naina Z.

I recently had a haircut and root touch up with Sasha. Dare I say, this might've been the best haircut I've ever had in my life?! Sasha placed a lot of attention and care into my hair, and it was open communication where she would periodically ask what I would like. She's also incredibly talented, so there's that. The salon itself was very nice, clean and professional. Tips are in cash (there's an ATM) but I didn't mind. I definitely will be returning.

Avoid this place like the plague- also my hair color was from another salon.

I was extremely disappointed and frustrated with my experience at this salon especially since it was recommended by a friend. The woman washing my hair got shampoo ALL over my face and neck. She didn't even try to avoid it. There were multiple times where she just slathered her hands fully across my forehead, cheeks, chin, jawline, front and sides of my neck. Typically the shampooing is a relaxing experience, but this was torture. I just sat there in anger and frustration waiting for it to be over. When she was finally done she was shocked when I asked for a towel to dry off my face. She then proceeded to aggressively brush (yank) out my hair. She started pulling the hair brush starting from the roots which caused my hair to mat. She then aggressively yanked the brush through the mats she created. I probably lost a month's worth of shedding in those five minutes of misery. The hair stylist then took over brushing my hair and I thought I was going to be saved, but she continued to aggressively yank at my hair. I came in to get the dead ends trimmed off my hair. Since there is no difference in price between a simple trim of dead ends and a styling hair cut I decided I would ask for some long layers. When the stylist started to cut my hair my hair was parted diagonally and zig-zaged across my scalp. I stopped the stylist to ask if she wanted to fix my hair part before continuing with cutting my hair and she said that it didn't matter. When she was done cutting my hair I asked her if she forgot about the long layers because it didn't seem like she did that at all. She insisted that she did style the long layers. Well, she did not. I honestly don't even think she knows what layers are. All she managed to do was give me the most atrocious haircut - seriously it looks like I was attacked by a kindergarten class with scissors. My hair looks like a staircase with blunt chopped ends. There is no blending or smooth transition. She hacked my front pieces way too short and then continued the trend to finish the set of steps that is now my hair. When it came to blow drying and heat styling my hair she did not use any heat protectant on my hair prior which was astounding. I've never been to a hair salon that does not use heat protectant and oils/serums. I may have just gotten extremely unlucky with who I was paired with that day, but shy salon that keeps "stylists" like this on staff isn't a redeeming salon in my opinion. I am just hoping that my hair grows fast so I can get this horrific haircut fixed.

Maysaa did a good job. For many years I have been afraid of change my black hair to blonde, but my experience with Maysaa completely changed my look by making a beautiful high-light without any damage to my hair. She is professional and loves her work and gives enough time to take care of my hair from cutting and blow-drying. I am very satisfied.highly recommend she's great for colour and cut.

And I tipped $20 for $280. Yet when I complained that it felt like a ripoff bacuse the work was so poor, he invented this new story that: (1) I received a "retouch on my roots" that I should have paid extra for (2) in a perfect world I should pay EXTRA (WHAT?) for bringing my own dye in (because Arctic Fox is so controversial??!?) (3) that "the area is expensive" (4) that apparently i need an ongoing longterm relationship to have a dye job that doesn't leave me feeling ripped off (5) that "we always have free dialog" so that "you can alawys get alterations to your service complimentary of course" -- this is the biggest sticking point. Oh really? You have a dialog for complimentary alterations? When I messaged my complaint directly on Yelp, there was no response. The same inbox that booked my appointments suddenly went silent. Why was I not offered free alterations if I don't like my service? BECUASE THAT'S A STORY YOU TELL ONLY ON YELP. THAT OPTION WAS NEVER GIVEN TO ME. This is a man who tells one story to the public, and another in private. Personally, I call that LYING and DISHONEST. ---- He then said "i DID WHAT WAS NEEDED" to explain a bad job that was unsatisfying. So was MICROWAVING FISH AND EATING IT IN FRONT OF ME needed? Because most of the work wasn't even done by you, it was done by a subordinate. Anyone with 1/2 a brain should be able to see the level of ego just dripping off his response. Now go look at the other people with unsatisfied balayages. They were smart enough to take pictures and you can see how terrible some of them are. I'm tempted to go dig up my pictures. ORIGINAL REVIEW: tbh i won't be returning after that $280 dye job + cut where you used the scissor to make like 2 cuts, and where i had visible roots walking out of the place, where it was obvious y'all just wanted me to go because you closed up afterward and were rushing me out. Yeah... as friendly as y'all were ... Visible roots?!?!? No discount for bringing my own dye? Literally every time a friend has come to my house i've had less roots than the one time i paid So what was the point of paying? There was none. I had a wedding emergency and a friend who stole hair products from me. I had no choice but to find SOMEBODY that day. Everyone loves my hair, but i feel ripped the f off. P.S. If you update your response to my review again, i WILL go dig up the pictures and attach them.

So I first off want to clarify that I was fortunate enough to win their Instagram balayage…read moregiveaway. But I swear that despite that, my review is 100% completely honest!! So when I went in, I already had blonde hair but I hadn't gotten it done since Thanksgiving so my naturally dark hair was peeking through in my roots. My blonde was also very warm and a little bit lackluster (just because it had been months since I last got it done!). So I knew going in that I really wanted to brighten my hair and give it a little refresh. I wanted a little more blonde and was hoping to add some more dimension. One of the owners, Melanie, did my hair. Starting off, I felt totally at home and comfortable. She grabbed me a Diet Coke and spoke with me about my hair and asked what I was looking for. I wanted to be realistic and I wanted to ensure that my hair would last until graduation (I graduate college in seven weeks). She was quick and efficient! We chatted about all sorts of things and honestly the three hours went by so fast!! The head massage/wash was so wonderful and relaxing. I've been wanting to go here for years (been following the account since freshman year) and I'm so glad I finally got the chance! My hair is stunning and Melanie is truly a star. I am so confident and just really appreciated the whole process. Grateful for this and super happy with my final look!

The first stylist showed little concern for hair health. My hair became severely damaged, and the highlights were poorly done--harsh, with straight lines and clearly visible foil marks. Even after going back for a touch-up, the work never improved. I switched to a second stylist for balayage, hoping for better results. On my most recent visit, I came in only for a toner and specifically asked for a golden honey blonde. Instead, I left with a dark, cool brown color that was the complete opposite of what I requested. Before I even left the salon, the stylist and other staff were trying to wash the color out, which made it clear it was wrong. The stylist knew I was unhappy, but I had a work event that night and had no real option but to leave. I called the salon the next day to have it fixed and was told there was no availability for two weeks. When I finally came back in, the stylist didn't even dry my hair--so there was no way to properly see whether the color had been corrected. Overall, this salon is overpriced, stressful, and inconsistent. Given the cost, I expected professionalism, attention to detail, and respect for client requests. I did not receive that and would not recommend this salon.

Over the past five years, I have regularly visited Japanese hair salons in Los Angeles, New York City, and Boston while traveling frequently. In those experiences, even when a haircut did not fully match my preferred style or length, the technical quality was consistently strong, and any adjustments were handled professionally. Unfortunately, this experience was very different. One of the defining characteristics of a Japanese haircut is the smoothness, softness, precision, and careful organization of the layers. In my case, the cut lacked those qualities and appeared uneven and poorly structured (the photo from the back). I was also disappointed by the salon's management. Based on my experience, the overall operation and quality control did not reflect the standards typically associated with Japanese salons. Update (May 2026): Over the past 4 years, I have been with my Japanese hair stylist in New York. I returned to the salon to see Keiko because I was hoping to find a long-term stylist in Washington, DC. I had not had my haircut for 7 months prior to that because I delivered a baby in December 2025. Ozuki appeared to be one of the few salons in the area offering Japanese hairstylists. Immediately after the appointment, the haircut looked good due to the styling and blow-dry. However, within a few days, the shape became difficult to manage and appeared increasingly unstructured. The photo on my ID, taken approximately three weeks after the haircut, reflects how the cut settled over time. In contrast, the Japanese haircuts I have received elsewhere typically maintain their shape and balance for several months. Despite my concerns, I scheduled another appointment six weeks after the first haircut with Keiko because I genuinely hoped the issues could be corrected and that I could establish a relationship with a local stylist. At the same time, I let the management know that my haircut had bad form and hope that it can be resolved at the second appointment. Unfortunately, my interactions with management, Liz, were once again disappointing. Rather than addressing the concerns constructively, the response left me with little confidence that the salon could deliver the level of quality I was seeking. This is the first Japanese salon where I have repeatedly had unsatisfactory experiences. Based on the consistency of those experiences, I am not convinced that the salon operates at the standard typically associated with Japanese hairstyling.
