Have used them to make button holes 3x. Fast and cheap and that cuts both ways. Sometimes they are so quick, they might miss making button holes on the pants and only do the jacket. You have to know what you want done and note that you are going to the be one clipping all the extra threads and putting back all the lining at the end. I returned to Jonathan Embroidery Plus to add buttonholes to a shirt collar that did not have them. For $5, they put in attractive holes. I bet just a handful of other shops do this work for the general public in the five boroughs. However, I did not make the same mistake and have them put on the buttons themselves. It was not a rush, but it only really took them about 2-3 days! It was exactly what I asked for as well. The young man at the front was courteous, knowledgeable, and efficient, despite their handling multiple customers. I chose to pay in cash upfront, but they offered multiple forms of payment (Zelle, etc.). Price was great value, and the color, spacing, and font for the embroidery work were immaculate. They even offer later pickup hours if you let them know in advance. I called to see if I could get some initial pricing estimates before I brought materials to the shop - I was interested in initials on a tote bag, so figured they would be able to give me a ballpark range, wrong. I get an email back telling me to come into the store for pricing. I go into the store and wait for a long time, as the owner isnt available and the store clerk cannot do pricing. Once I am able to talk to owner she is quoting me $25 for three one inch letters on a bag - too expensive for what I need, so before she starts scoping the request I apologize and let her know it will be too much for me at this time. She goes well how much were you hoping to pay, maybe I can help, when I tell her I was hoping for something closer to $10 she threw the bag I brought in at me and screamed at me like I just said something highly offensive. At first I was hesitant to come to this business because of the one-star reviews, but after going there myself I can understand where the other customers are coming from. There definitely is an older Korean woman running the store, but I did not see any racism. She was talking to an African American woman as if the latter was a regular customer and the other clientele seemed content with the atmosphere in the store. She does talk rather bluntly, but she did not raise her voice to anyone when I was there. I went to get embroidery done on a handkerchief for a girlfriend's wedding and despite the deadline being in two days, she assured me it would be done by then. She gave me a flat rate (not charging by character like some other establishments do) and her assistant was very helpful. Yes, you do need some patience while coming here for a custom embroidery job; there was only one assistant helping me and two other customers. I do advise either calling or emailing them before you come in. It gives them a better understanding of what you're looking for. I haven't gotten my job back yet, but I will update once I do. Update: Picking up the embroidery was fine. Just make sure to have the pink order receipt that they give you the day you make your order. There's a reference number for them to find your job order. I couldn't have been happier with my same day custom embroidered friend's new baby blanket. Seemed pretty basic compared to the tailoring being done and the orders I saw being put in. This is no mall kiosk iron on t shirt place! Full-service embroideredor who seem like they specialize in custom order and buttons as well. Tons of selections of buttons and patches available for purchase. Place like Pottery Barn kids say they turn around a custom embroidery in a day, they really don't and the employees don't seem.to care. Sunny was no fuss,no muss. Come here knowing what you want and bring the item you want to have worked on. They don't sell clothing items here like t shirts or hoodies. After spending about 5 minutes discussing font size, color and placement with Sunny, my order was in and ready for pick up 3 hours later. 3 hours is a dream when you call a place like Monogram Cottage on the UES and they tell you it will be 5 business days without ever once asking what your item is. If you want same day device here, I would suggest early in the day. It is cash only and I would think you could work out a price for rush if it was desperately needed. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. QUICK SUMMARY: RUINED CUSTOM GARMENT 1. They sewed the buttonholes in the wrong place, this cannot be undone. 2. They used the wrong thread color 3 times. 3. They lost my button I gave to them (for buttonhole sizing purposes) 4. They misplaced my hanger, and often times I notice they keep customer's hangers if they forget to ask for them back. 5. They charge you a different price that changes each time, and if they are annoyed with you they charge you even more. They ruined a garment I worked very hard on. I drafted and created all the patterns for this garment, It took me days to finish sewing it and I was very proud of it. I marked my buttonhole and specifically told them that it was the start of my buttonhole, and that the buttonhole would continue to the right of my marking. The lady nodded and said yeah yeah like she knew what she was doing. I also asked them to match the contrasting hand sewing thread that was visible on my vest. I come back to pick it up and they sewed the buttonholes completely wrong, they treated my marking as the center instead of the start, and they did not use the thread color I asked them too. Now my buttonhole is way too close to the edge. I asked them to redo the thread color which they did, but they again did not choose the right color. When I explained their mistake they did not even apologize. They charged me for it even after I told them they had messed it up. The lady was very rude and basically shrugged it off when I told her they made a mistake and I shouldn't be paying for that mistake. If you care about your garments I highly suggest you find another place or learn how to do it on your own, it is not worth it. I wasted 2 hours waiting just for them to mess everything up. read more

Coming here for button holes- 4 stars Coming here for rivets and grommets- 1 star, no matter how many colors and placements examples I did, she still wasn't understanding and I speak Spanish. What she did understand is yellow headed pins mean one thing and pins with flat heads mean something else and having a full diagram and explaining it 3 times etc. Finally after 5 hrs of sitting there and waiting and helping them through the steps, all was completed. However I do feel like I should have gotten some of their payment as I did the planing, re planning and explaining. I can honestly say I survived Jonathan Embroidery. read more

I went in on Saturday and the line was ridiculous! I was there for literally 45 mins and they still had a few people in front of me. I had no idea it would take that long and I was going to be late for work so I had to leave. I went again today with an hour to spare and I was still late to work!! The customer service is soooooo slow and they are incredibly rude and unhelpful. They made me resend the email that I had already sent them because they didn't feel like searching through the email. (This was a custom logo embroidery order). I said, "All you have to do is type my last name in the search bar..." The woman said, "That's going to take too long, just resend it." *sigh* Anyhow, I managed to drop off the tops but whoa. They said they'll be done on Thursday. I said that they originally said 1-2 days and she goes, "Well now it's three!" Worst ever. But at least it's done. All this and the prices are average for embroidery. Update: they ended up taking a day longer than promised because they couldn't understand the clear instructions in the email. Absolutely do not recommend, and will never go here again. We dropped off 10 shirts here to be monogrammed as a gift for the groomsmen in our wedding. We had clearly labeled the correct shirts with the correct initials and triple checked them to ensure we had the matching sizes/initials. They messed-up 5 out of 10 of our shirts, mixing up four with the wrong sizes/initials and inserting the wrong middle initial for another. Because we did not notice until several days later, we had to scramble to purchase 5 new dress shirts and get them monogrammed days before the wedding, costing us hundreds of dollars -- way more than we would have spent simply going to a higher-quality place. When we called to speak with the manager to explain our situation he was very rude and told us that it was "probably our fault" and went on to ask "can we prove they made the mistake?". Very unprofessional and poor customer service. I urge you not to use their services and highly recommend you go somewhere more professional, thorough and high-quality if you want the job done right. read more
