Review time! Wanted to wait till I had couple appointments done with DR. Nelson and his team and I'm happy to report back that it went wonderfully ! I was hesitant off couple of bad reviews but there will always be a person you can't make happy . However with me he had good chair side manner and you could tell he cares about the outcome of his work . Was very impressed how he mostly works alone while his assistants run the other rooms doing charting with hygiene or cleaning and seating and this didn't come off as a lack of staffing just simply he could and didn't need to additional help! Was able to get everything verified with insurance quickly and even able to do in house payments on a crown I needed to replace which was a big relief . I'll continue to come here for future needs as well as recommended the office . read more

Have always been terrified of the dentist to the point that I resisted going for about 4 years. Upon arrival the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Dr Nelson did an amazing job on my fillings to the point I can't even tell which area he did! Very thankful to have had such positive experiences here. Would definitely recommend! read more

I feel so lucky to have stumbled upon Nelson Dentistry when handed a long list of dentists that accepted my insurance. The staff has been wonderful. They are very communicative about appointments and the text reminders are great. When you are at the office, they continually check in with you about any potential delays. The cleanings have been the best I have ever received. I appreciate how thorough the work was and the explanations about how I can improve my oral hygiene. Dr. Nelson is a great guy. I can not say enough about Dr Nelson and his team! Saturday night I was eating dinner and hear/felt a crunch in my mouth then lots of pain! My filling had fallen out! (Not one done my Dr N) and I called his emergency line and within about an hour Dr N himself called me back!! He told me what to do for the pain and how to fix the sharp edge and told me his team would call me Monday. Monday at 0802 I got a text from his office and they STAYED THERE LATE!!! And got me in after their regular appointments!! Best service EVER!!!! read more

First I guess I should say that I have never been a fan of the dentist, which is probably why I waited 2 years to make my next appointment. My husband and I just moved to Missoula about 6 months ago. A little after moving we received a personal letter in the mail from Dr. Nelson's office which not only welcomed us to town, but notified us of his services. Trying to find new doctors is always overwhelming, especially when you have seen the same ones for the past 20 years. I made an appt and from the moment I walked through the door, I was treated like they had known me forever. Since it had been so long since I had been to the dentist and I had to have the full gauntlet examination (full xrays, gum examination, etc). BUT Dr. Nelson went over everything and was very clear and open about what he was doing. When he finished the exam he told me everything he did or did not see, and had me make an appt for the next day to get my sealant replaced. I came back, didn't have to wait a ridiculously long time, and was in and out in about 20 minutes. Dr. Nelson even went out of his way to write a referral to an orthodontist since I was having retainer issues. Moving from a big city I have to say that I prefer smaller private owned practices, because you aren't treated like a number in a seat. They act like you're family and if you ever have questions or concerns they are there for you right away. I will continue to go to Dr. Nelson in the future and would recommend other to do so as well! read more

Dr. Nelson fixed many of my cavities in the past year and has done an amazing job. He also has amazing dental techs, everyone there is super friendly and understanding. By far one of the best places I have been, I haven't had many good experiences with dentist offices either. read more

Dr. Nelson is an inexperienced dentist, recently graduating from dental school. He has his diplomas on the wall over the reception desk to prove it. He could use a few lessons, but the most important is sensitivity to his patients and to his lack of experience. In a recent appointment he kept me upside down in the chair, despite my spinal injuries, for 20 minutes while he tried to figure out what was going on with my teeth and instructed the brand new assistant in the software. The training should have occurred on his time, not mine. It is important that you don't subject the patient to incompetent staff. The previous dentist, Dr. Jones, knew this, and conducted many training sessions with her staff on her time. My discomfort was obvious, and he should have raised the chair the moment the exam was done, and while we were discussing options. This would be true even if I didn't have injuries that made the position painful because many people find the position humiliating and disempowering, creating a sense of vulnerability. The second lesson is that he needs to know that he doesn't know. This is something you learn with experience. Dr. Nelson would have been well-served to have begun his career under a mentor for several years before opening his own office. He would have learned things like the importance of patient comfort and trust. He had become irritated with me when I told him that I was not interested in cosmetic treatments. When I expressed doubt in one of his diagnoses, his response was sarcasm. He should have respectfully and sensitively taken my concern into consideration, and offered the possibility of a second opinion. This is standard medical practice, especially when considering something that will likely cost thousands of dollars and many hours of the patient's time, as well as pain and discomfort. He may have graduated at the top of his class for all I know, but that doesn't help when sensitivity and instilling trust are things that are either innate or learned. In his case, they are not innate, so they must be learned. Finally, he has lost either most or all of the original staff who worked with Dr. Jones. Whether he fired them or they quit is irrelevant--I don't know. It doesn't speak well of someone if experienced staff either cannot or will not continue with the new owner. I am writing this not just for other Yelpers, but also for Dr. Nelson, with the hope that he will take these criticisms to heart. read more

My first experience was decent but after that appointment I have gone back and felt extremely uncomfortable... it didn't really feel like they knew what they were doing. the staff cleaned my teeth twice? They sent two different girls in to do all of the same procedures, I was really confused. An appointment that normally takes no more then in hour turned into 2. I get my teeth cleaned every 6 months and nothing crazy happened since the last appointment. I tried to give it a second chance but they moved my appointment the day before (less then 24hrs) getting in contact with me... then I agreed to reschedule after that week the morning of when I recieved their message. I ended up having to cancel that appointment because of a family emergency. When I called to reschedule they said that I had no called no show to 2 appointments prior. I honestly am so easy going and happy to work with people but I did not feel taken care of as a patient. So I will be canceling this last appointment before I go. read more
