A skim coat of chimney crown sealer was $395. A gallon of "Crown Coat" is about $112 (it is highly rated on Amazon). For a stainless steel chimney cap wholesale priced online $80 to $140 was $230. Both materials were billed at way over a 100% mark up. I completely understand and appreciate small businesses and sweat equity. The two-man crew from K-2 was at the house for about 60 minutes. Even at the billed price of $720 less the $300 in materials that leaves about $420 dollars in labor. $210 per hour per man. My fault. I should have asked for the bottom line before the work was completed. Here's the reality. I will not be calling K-2 again.

A $100 routine sweep and dryer cleaning turned into a +$700 investment. Based on their "expert opinion," we OKed a $400 upsale for a chimney repair, but the additional parts mark up made a good situation turn very bad...very quickly. No company invested in long-term success marks up their products and services more than 100% and acts without consent, when the customers are IN the house, available for consult. We champion small businesses, and I'm hopeful this start up company takes this feedback to heart. In the meantime, be wary. Ask for pricing up front.
