Great quick small spot to view Mount Hood. If you're in the area stop here for the view. Theres a stone wall with benches where you can rest your legs and have a snack while admiring the views. I like that it wasn't crowded. There were a few small groups when we got there. But they didn't stay long, neither did we. You can come here for the view but probably won't spend too long, no more than 30 minutes. read more

Small viewpoint with a west facing view that is absolutely spectacular! With wide, panoramic views of the Sandy River Valley and majestic Mt. Hood standing proudly in the west, this is an Oregon calendar shot! Just a short distance off Hwy 26, it is definitely worth stopping here on your way up to Mt. Hood. A designated stop on the Oregon Scenic Byways Program, there are telescopes you can use. Named after the Jonsrud family who lived in Sandy in 1877, one of the original pioneer families Who built and lived in a prairie style home that is still visible across the street. So that everyone could enjoy this magnificent and expansive views, their son donated the viewpoint property to the city of Sandy in 1984. What a gift! There is a small parking area but there are typically not a lot of cars so I've never had any issues parking here. Go! The view is incredible in every season! Especially in the fall and always at sunset. read more

The Jonsrud Viewpoint is literally just a stop by the side of the road where you can see pretty far out into the valley below and to the Sandy River. On very clear days, you can see all the way to Mount Hood. We were there on a more hazy day so just got its very tip (looks like a cloud haha). There are view finders, so you can see further and find sights you can't see from afar. I actually recommend heading to Trillium Lake for the absolute best views of Mt. Hood (with a beautiful lake in the shot too!) The Sandy River Valley is very green and full of plant life, so definitely worth a quick stop to see the valley and (hopefully) get a good snapshot of Mt. Hood. read more

Obviously, the view that's gonna be the first thing that you're gonna be impressed with and after you take the view, you can read the placards that are placed around the viewpoint that give you the history of this particular area and I don't make it even more interesting and then you'll look back at the view and go wow that view is even better. The best view of Mt Hood o have yet to find. It makes the spot to take sunrise photos over the mountain! You won't be alone in your morning adventure. Be warned the parking lot is like 6 cars. read more

A small little free parking lot! Not a hike! Just a lookout point! The viewpoint is epic and definitely worth the drive. Wish the weather was clear when I went, but it was still beautiful! You can see mount hood from the viewpoint. read more

We followed our GPS until we saw the sign the viewpoint park. For parking spaces and we walked up a slight incline to view. Beautiful viewpoint with all of the mountains identified. The cedar creek below flows into the Sandy River. This is part of Oregon Mount Hood heritage Trail. Impressed they were even to free you finders where I can zoom in on Mount Hood. There was a plaque and bricks the people bored I guess to pay for this, lovely.Beautiful The viewpoint was named after the Jonsrud family who lived in Sandy, 1877. In 1922, they built the prairie style home across the street. In 1984 their son donated the viewpoint to the city. read more

This is a really nice viewpoint! This is maybe the best view of Hood that requires ZERO hiking. The upkeep here is pristine. The signs are interesting. The parking is free. It's parallel parking only though so, make sure you got the skills. (fun fact: I acted as a spotter here for a lady that was "not a good backer-upper". Note on Sandy culture: We stopped to re-pack here after a summit attempt on Hood, so we'd be ready for the airport. A woman here looked shamefully at my partner when she walked out of the rental car with...gasp...BARE FEET. She then made a snarky comment about if we were going to "wash our clothes in the river". OOOOOOOkaaaaay. The views of the west face here are incredible. This is the same view you get from the Pittock Mansion in Portland but, since you are in Sandy, you can make out way more details of the mountain. There is also way less "clutter" in the foreground. (although some unnatural golf-coursey landscaping does kind of detract from the view, if I'm being honest) I guess the only negative of this place is...unless you know exactly where to look, it's unlikely you'll ever find it. Would it hurt to call it "Mt Hood viewpoint" on Google maps? I guess that's a positive too, in a way. This place would be swamped if people knew there was a view this good, this close to the highway. read more

Beautiful viewpoint overlooking Mount Hood and the Sandy River. No Hiking of any kind just park walk 10 feet and take in the amazing view. Its a great stop on your way to all of the waterfalls near Mount Hood. There is a small parking lot which was empty the day we went as it was a bit rainy. Worth a stop. read more

This is a beautiful viewpoint but if you are expecting to hike or go down any trails there aren't any. Jonsrud Viewpoint is located in Sandy - about 45 minutes from downtown PDX. It offers one of the best views of Mt Hood overlooking the valley. Highly recommended for any photographer, before you make a drive over ensure you can catch a glimpse of the mountain from PDX, if it is not visible from the city, not worth the drive. There is parking for about 6 cars. read more

Plenty of water/river access, but you can't really walk along the river if that was your plan. There is a large picnic shelter that was closed up with locked gates, so I'm not sure if that can be reserved for use. The restroom at the shelter was also locked, but there were 2 port-a-potties in the park (one at the front & one in the back).

Everywhere you look, there are trees, flowers and plants as far as the eye can see. Plus, nature sure is amazing, as well as very inspiring too. Another good reason why I find it to be amazing is that if you look really hard, you can find a painted rock. And speaking of which, the painted rocks sure are beautiful. Besides bringing painted rocks to Tickle Creek Park & Trail and putting them in places where others can find them, people also take photos of the painted rocks they find (as photos make great souvenirs). In conclusion, I highly recommend Tickle Creek Park & Trail for all those nature lovers out there. And I give it five stars as well (although ten stars would be even better).

Meh...not so impressed today…read more Stopped for a hike and some scenery. You can get in a decent hike here, but at this time of year the scenery wasn't so great. Based off what I saw, I'm sure at other times of year it would be much prettier. You have to keep a pretty slow pace right now, as the trails are very muddy...ice covered mud in quite a few places. The main Sandy River trail is more like a road, with a viewpoint of the river near the bottom. The Jim Slagle loop was a single file trail, and slightly more enjoyable than the main trail. A lot of mud, not the greatest scenery, and the occasional trash made for a "not one of my favorites" hike...especially in the land of gorgeous trails.
