"Not your average Joe," their beans are fresh for take-home and the community space is large for hosting events and parties too, going strong since 2012. I wish I had come hungry because MAC's Cinnamon Rolls looked incredible, as did the ongoing Earl Gray specials. The Van Gogh latte was light on honey, missing some almond, but creamy and caffeinated nonetheless. My fabulous second "office" of the morning, I arrived here at 9:30am and stayed for about an hour and a half, moving smoothly through two Zoom calls and several meetings. The atmosphere feels a little less industrial than Zinc and leans more toward the inviting "coffee shop" style, yet it remains an excellent choice for remote workers who want a reliable and pleasant setting. I once again ordered a cortado, and it was once again excellent. Served in the proper short glass, it provided exactly the kind of boost I needed to dig through my mailbox and get everything prepared for the weekend. The consistency here is impressive, and the attention to detail in presentation makes the experience even better. This is a comfortable and quiet place for laptop workers, with seating that encourages focus and a background hum that never becomes distracting. There is street parking right outside, along with a free lot and deck across the street, which makes access easy and stress free. Five stars from me, and I would be glad to spend another full work day here, enjoying both the coffee and the calm environment that makes productivity feel natural. Out-of-towner here and I was visiting a friend who thought this would be a nice spot for me to try out before I left to go back home, and I'm glad he did. The ambience is chill, slightly eclectic, and the windows on the front of the business allow so much beautiful natural light in. They also don't take your name and stupidly misspell it on your cup; they just call out your order when it's ready. I am a drip coffee gal, so that is what I got. They had a pretty approachable medium roast on offer and it was lovely. Not over-roasted and nor did it taste stale, like it'd been sitting in the carafe for too long. I also ordered a regular cinnamon roll to go and it was amazing!! The cream cheese frosting was decadent and the roll wasn't under-cooked as some bakeries are want to do because they don't have a good recipe for the dough. I love that I got an edge piece with brown edges. Would love to come back to buy multiple cinnamon rolls alone. read more

I grew up in the Joplin area, but moved away in 2011. I was recently visiting family over the holidays from LA when my sister suggested this gem. I wish Joplin had these types of places back when I lived there! I've never seen so many options on a coffee shop's menu. My husband and I both got larges and they were around $6/each. That's a steal in my book considering Starbucks in the LA area can be upwards of $7-8 for specialty drinks lol. My husband had the cinnamon roll latte blended and I had the raspberry white mocha iced with SF syrup. I'm lucky to find SF vanilla at most places, but this spot had multiple SF options! I went to Joplin Ave for a study/cram session with my friends. I got the chai latte and it was decent! It was definitely an upgrade compared to the Starbucks chai latte but I wouldn't say it was the best chai latte I've had in Joplin (Sorry, I am Zinc biased). As for the coffee options though, I do appreciate the variety of options! The baristas are super nice and always cater to your taste if you ask them for recommendations or adjustments to your drink. Overall, my experience at Joplin Ave was good. However, I must say its not the best environment for studying. The back room serves more as a group gathering/hang out than for study purposes and they don't have the best wifi back there. read more

This is becoming my one stop shop for anything caffeine related. It seemes small the first time you enter, but it's actually quite spacious once you find the passage way to get ro the back room. Cozy and quiet, it's a great place to study or do some work. While it probably (no, definitely) is an excessive drink, the Jacc'ed Up is so far my favorite. With 32 ounces of coffee, not including the 5 shots of esspresso, mixed with white chocolate and caramel, all topped by a mountain of whipped cream... it's hard to find something like it anywhere else. The most frigid, rude, unwelcoming baristas I have ever experienced. Quite literally. Will never be returning. I have never had such bad service at a coffee shop, and I have been to many. Even used to come here all the time up until about a year ago, so I am very disappointed that this was the treatment I received coming in today after a hard day to treat myself to a nice coffee and hadn't had one in a long time. Really put a big damper on my excitement to finally go get myself something nice. You would think that if you're paying NINE DOLLARS for a coffee, you would at least get a smile when you walked in, or anything other than the annoyed attitude I got. I will go to Zinc instead next time I decide to treat myself. I don't get coffee often, as I've said already, but at least the times I have gone to Zinc I have not been treated like I am a nuisance or a pest. Pretty solid place for coffee. For Joplin. They've got a huge back room with more tables if you're in a bigger group. Staff does not wear masks. I've come here from time to time and the drinks are decent. Nothing that wowed me too much. Pretty sweet drinks here. They've also got foods, muffins, bagels, smoothies! Another coffee shop review? I know, I know ... What can I say? I lurrrrvvvee my coffee. I get excited seeing local coffee houses, in my town or any town. I want to try them all. Unfortunately for Joplin, there are a limited amount of non-chain stores. Seriously, I think there are maybe 5. Now, ya'll know I enjoy my Starbucks, but I will hit up a non-chain a billion times before I settle for Starbucks. Maybe it is the atmosphere inside a local coffee shop. Just homey, cozy, feel good-y. Some are more so than others. Can't say Joplin Avenue is one of the best as far as that relaxing, casual coffee house feel, but it's certainly not the worst. It has more tables than couches, but it is small/intimate with cool art on the walls and cute little red bistro tables out on the sidewalk. Adorbs! I've been here a few times. I forget about it a lot because it isn't convenient on my drive to/from work. But this morning, I had an errand to run downtown, lucky me! Lucus and I always always always get mochas, and then we play around with different flavors. This morning, I had a blackberry and he had an English toffee. The ratio between coffee and chocolate was decently balanced. Was not bitter or overly sweet, which is always the trouble when we try new coffee shops. Either there is not enough chocolate or there's too much. Joplin Avenue got it just right. Previous visits, we were given a chocolate espresso bean with our coffee, but this time we didn't. Not sure if they stopped doing that or if it was just forgotten. No big deal, but it is a nice little touch. There is a pretty big menu for non-coffee drinkers, as well as a case of pastries, pop tarts, bagels and oatmeal. If I had more time, i would have had them make me a bowl of oatmeal (it's instant in the little individual pouches). Also, there was a sign that says they have two breakfast sandwiches from Jimmy John's available as well. Words of advice: Go here. Drink coffee. Sit outside, relax, watch the cars go by. And enjoy. A unique and cool place to stop for a delicious and creative coffee drink. They have all kinds of coffee drinks so you're sure to find what you would like. Employees are nice and helpful. It has an intimate vibe which is fun and cool. I really enjoyed the experience all around. Also they are open til the evening on Sunday's which is awesome if you're looking to grab a coffee on a Sunday afternoon, which I happened to be on my visit. I really like this place. It's a nice change from the chains and the drinks I've tried were all very good. For being rather small, it's arranged in a way that creates several separate seating areas. The counter staff varies from super outgoing and welcoming, to simply polite (that's fine with me). It's a cozy spot that doesn't get in the way of itself by being overly hip. Good free wi fi and plenty of seating, both inside and out on the sidewalk. The more I come in, the more I like it. They have some great combinations of flavors here. I had the Van Gough, which was a Latte with Vanilla, Honey, and Almond. They went a little too heavy on the almond since it was hard to taste the Vanilla or Honey but was still pretty good. The pastries didn't look that great though and kept me from ordering something. Finally! A coffee shop that knows what they're doing! Starbucks is just sugar in a cup and then there's the Brew which is gas station food and coffee at a higher price but this place is great, I didn't try the pastries yet but I had a blended chai and then my husband gets the caramel macchiato and it has a shot of espresso which he always gets a shot so he doesn't have to pay extra and the have specials through the weeks and I went on a Monday so it was .25 cent shots of espresso! I honestly love their coffee, but when i went in tonight this particular barista had a really bad attitude and made me feel unwelcome and awkward about even being there, you could tell she was unhappy at her job and it radiated off of her and threw off my entire experience. I usually don't care about things like this, but saying she had bad customer service would be an understatement. I will not be coming back because she quite frankly made me feel like I shouldn't. Maybe she was having a bad day, but for someone like myself who works in customer service you can't make it so obvious in front of customers.
