Most of the photography booths were hard to tell apart, and it seemed like theirs was the only one with a definite /style/. I didn't interact with "he" much, but "she" was awesome. Melanie and a helper photographed our wedding. They were friendly, relaxed, and totally flexible - there was no rigid list of shots to get, and they did some fun stuff working with the location. Steve was the main photographer for a large social event-doing the main, prepaid portraits of…read moreapproximately 20 college students, and close to 100 young students aged 4-14. Also he was responsible for shots of each and every event leading up to the main "social". Almost 99% of the families involved had members photographed in past years so we knew what to expect. For myself, this was our 4th trip to the rodeo, in addition my third involvement with the older group. Pro:Steve is very nice, interested in pleasing everyone and knows his craft. Cons: kept saying he "always photographed X" and therefore he automatically knew what we expected. Results: for my individual shot, Steve took over 20 shots of my son (age 12) but only after 10 did *I* realize his shirt and bow tie were crooked, had to fix, and those were included in my choices. Previous photographers had made sure my daughter/son were perfect and those weren't counted as options. We were required to choose a particular pose for the program, and that limited things further. Upon finding an acceptable one, but requesting it be cropped so my son's head would be centered in the shot (both vertically and horizontally), that was done. However, my handsome son was now photoshopped to have perfect skin with a model finish and bright blue eyes (they are lt blue grey), rosy cheeks and kissable lips. ???? Remember I said I also assisted with the college students photographs. These are of young ladies in white gowns, and the best backgrounds are classic. Photography inside a classic hotel, house, or the Capitol is very possible (and has been done for decades) but requires someone who looks at everything. Mothers complained about chandeliers growing out of heads and plants growing out of sides. Now, once Steve was faced with those who openly pointed out each of these issues he worked hard to accommodate many changes--he just didn't see the overall picture from the beginning, and seemed to have some challenges setting up classical settings as choices. Sometimes the background limits your options, but I was at this same house for two sessions and after the second mother pointed out issues the three of us (Steve, mother and I) found much better options. Setup shots and group shots of at least one special group event included shots where people had to finally tell him to go away. He didn't seem to realize what shots weren't needed at all (someone not yet in makeup and in rollers!!) For a wedding that might be fine because only family sees those shots but for us everyone in the very large group sees everything :) The worst was: when presented with an issue: "I'll just send it overseas to photoshop it out". The price paid for a premium photographer for an entire event is to get the know-how to prevent things like this. Or the skill set to Photoshop it *yourself* and tweak things very carefully. Yes the industry trend (and trend for everything ) is to send it overseas. However, we "bought and paid for" the skill set to do it yourself, or at least tweak the really important things so that *must*be kept in mind. If that had been done, maybe my son wouldn't look like he was ready for pre-teen magazine. Overall:maybe a good photographer for cookie cutter shots, or when one family works with him like a wedding, but definitely not recommended for "mixed groups".

After the engagement shoot, there were somethings I brought attention to that I wanted to be different at our wedding. Adam was extremely helpful and saw to that our media team the day of was informed of what we were looking for. They exceeded our expectations, communicated thoroughly throughout the entire wedding day and were incredibly sweet. We received our wedding media under 3 months and couldn't have been happier. I've looked through the pictures countless times, watched the 4 minute highlight reel multiple times as well.. plus we got the documentary film which was about an hour long. As any bride planning a wedding knows, there are so many huge decisions that you have to make and…read moreso many different people that you have to put all of your trust into. For me personally, one of the most important decisions I needed to make was choosing a photographer and videographer as these are the only people who can truly help preserve every moment of our wedding day. I was an out of state bride (I live in Seattle but go married in Austin), and did SO much research into finding the right fit for us that was within a reasonable budget. After countless phone calls and emails with different photo/video teams, something just clicked when I found Double Knot. From beginning to end, they were just seamless. Most of our initial communication was via email and Adam was always extremely responsive and answered all of my crazy questions. My first major decision, and my best one, was hiring Double Knot for our February wedding at Log Country Cove (also a wonderful decision!). I flew to Austin a few months before our wedding and was able to meet with Adam and Kayla in person. I left feeling such a sense of relief as I knew that I was in good hands. It was actually kind of funny because when we left (my neighbor who is in her 50s) commented on how young they were. And that's what I loved! As someone who went to art school herself, I know how crucial it is to have someone who actually is up to date on everything. Photography and videography are both arts individually, but there is so much behind the scenes work (hours and hours of editing) that are required for weddings and I knew that I wanted a team that was fresh, current and hungry. That is 100% what you get with Double Knot. Adam and Kayla have this awesome balance of extreme professionalism but also of making you feel like they are friends that you've known for years. I was comfortable around them and it came through in all of the photos and videos. Wedding morning/day was complete chaos for me and I was finishing up so many last minute things. Adam was there to listen to my crazy banter, and even add in some himself, and somehow I think his presence actually calmed me down in some of those moments. Even when I was talking a mile a minute and anxiously joking, Adam was just chill and relaxed. I think that if I had an older team I just wouldn't have been as laid back as I was. *not knocking older photographers...just sayin' that this definitely played into my comfort level during a stressful morning. The Double Knot team really took the the reigns setting up some beautiful shots and just let me and my bridesmaids do our thing. The Groomsmen were all getting ready at a different house on property, and yet still, Adam and Kayla managed to capture so many wonderful moments at both. My husband and the groomsmen clearly felt comfortable around them because some of their group photos are hilarious! Kayla has such awesome direction with her photography and really feeds off of your energy. She's tiny and just quietly bopped around getting those amazing candid shots that I know every bride wants. She was like a Prius! She got some shots of me and I didn't even know she was there. Kayla was super efficient with all of our family photos and gave great direction. We have a big family and there were a lot of moving parts, but with some pre-planning they were able to really keep it flowing. Thanks to the smoothness of family photos, we really got to have a lot of fun with bride and groom shots. Kayla and her team were amazing! We thought we'd feel awkward being photographed together for the first time, but they made us feel so at ease and really soak in every single moment as husband and wife. They went above and beyond in every way; climbing up on things to get certain shots, fanning me off because it was so hot, you name it, they were on it. Post-wedding communication was great. Everything came as promised, on time, and exceeded all expectations. The only thing they didn't tell me up front was how emotional everything would make me! When looking at the photos, I cried, I laughed, and everything in between. Just when I'd see a photo I knew I wanted framed, I'd see another, and another...and another. And this is when I realized how glad I am that we added the photo album. I will cherish these photos for the rest of my life, but the one thing that I will be able to watch and get all of those wedding day "feels" back with is the Highlight video that Adam created. It's pure magic. I cannot even begin putting into words how it makes me feel every time I watch it. The abundance of love, the joy, the sense of family, and our personalities all came through in every second of the video. Photography and videography do so much more than preserve memories. They give you feeling. With each photo I look at, and each time I watch the highlight video, I go back to remembering how happy I was on my wedding day. My heart is just so full and we are so grateful for you!
