Despite a few challenging and stressful situations that cropped up once we accepted an offer, and some communication snafus probably made worse by us being all the way on the other side of the country, Jamie worked his butt off to sort everything out and live up to his word. He did an excellent job of making an extremely stressful process run as smoothly as possible. We did butt heads a few times, but he absolutely came through for us in the end. Through this experience, I learned that Jamie deeply cares about his clients, and strives to do right by them no matter what. I highly recommend Jamie if you're looking for someone who is devoted to your home-selling or buying experience, and who will have your back during the process. Our house sold so fast, and at thousands higher than the listing price. We were able to pay off tons of debt and start fresh in California. I am updating my review from 2018 because I think it is extremely important for current and future…read moreresidents to understand the gravity of the situation my roommate and I experienced with York Property ("YP") and how their lack of action was frankly, lawless. As noted in my original post, my roommate and I had multiple tears in our top floor apartment roof that would leak whenever we experienced rain (the location was in my bedroom and bathroom). YP was first alerted to this on the very first occasion sometime in February 2018. On every occasion it leaked, YP was immediately alerted via phone and email. Each time, YP indicated that their maintenance team had "patched up" the tear in the roof. However, given the fact it continued to leak up until we moved out - around 14 months later - it was clear these patch jobs were subpar. In fact, during one of the most recent leaks (around March 2019) one of the leasing agents, Katie, whom no longer works there, told us that a leak was "normal" for the type of roofing installed on the apartment. Throughout the 14 months, not only were my belongings damaged, but the water had created water stains on the ceiling (located in both my bedroom and bathroom), thinned out the paint to the point where we could see studs through the wall, and created a large brown stain on the bedroom carpet that did not improve despite it being cleaned multiple times. The longevity of this issue in conjunction with the brown stain caused obvious concerns regarding mold. Due to their lack of attention to this matter, despite them saying for over a year it had been fixed yet the issue persisted, I was advised by an outside party to bring in the Building Inspector for the City of Charlottesville. I was instructed that as defined by the Virginia Residential Landlord and Tenant Act, the landlord was responsible for keeping the premises in fit living conditions and a leaking roof did not meet those requirements. Further to that point, while he Virginia Residential Landlord and Tenant Act do outline a reasonable timeframe for the landlord to address and fix such issues - 14 months was over that addressed timeframe. Once the City was involved, I was finally able to speak to the owner of YP despite me asking one of the senior leasing agents, Eddie, multiple times for his contact information so I could discuss with him directly. He seemed somewhat in the dark in regards to how long the problems was actually going on for. Whether that's true or just an act I don't know. Either way, he heard our concerns and was very involved in making sure it was fixed. (Probably because the City was now officially involved but I'd like to think he cares). They apparently finally "fixed" the issue in May 2019 right as we were moving out of the apartment. I can't fully speak to whether it has been resolved or if the issue persists but that is where it was left off.

What was most disappointing was being told that certain steps had been completed when they had not. Renay was the most disappointing part of this experience. When I received my lease, there was no call or guidance provided. Because Sam was out of town and had not followed up as promised that Friday, I contacted the leasing office to make sure I had submitted everything required. I did not recurve any follow up but kept getting reminders about my lease so I went into the office and RenaY was there. Renay assured me that everything was complete and nothing else was needed. As the property manager, I trusted this information, unfortunately, that was a mistake. Ashland, who joined the communications after the ball dropping from the order two, has been the only person who followed up as she said she would. She sent a clear email outlining what was still needed and was able to accurately explain the requirements for a new tenant. That level of communication should have been consistent from the beginning, again especially for the property manager. I understand that the holidays can be a busy and hectic time, but that does not justify dishonesty or poor communication. If steps are missed, it's far better to be transparent than to provide incorrect information. Overall, this experience showed a disappointing lack of follow-through and integrity. Not a way I would like to start a lease.
