We selected the 1 hour ride as we just wanted the experience. It was a warm day but umbrellas were provided which was very helpful. Andrew was a great guide and provided a thorough introduction and explanation. The actual time on the railrider was probably 40-45 minutes. read more

What a great time! We did the 2-hour trip and because we coasted and used the brake more than the pedal on the trip out, we opted to try the trip back without the pedal assist. Um, that lasted just a little while!! It was nice an relaxing. Would have considered doing longer trip at the other location, but we were leaving b4 they opened up for the week. Horrible experience for my family! The people who run this location should not be working with customers. Our group of 5 paid more than $300 for three tandem cars and when we arrived we were told two of those cars were broken - they were missing a chain. My kids (aged 8 & 11) were sad that they wouldn't get to peddle but we were given no option to make good on their broken equipment. The couple running the depot said the bikes were broken by "sneaky, deceptive" customers before us. We decided to let one kid ride the working machine on the way out, and the other could ride it on the way back - trying to make the best of the situation. When we got to the end of the line, my husband went to adjust the seats so the kids could trade and the man working there started yelling at him. He was saying "don't touch the seats sir! Don't mess with my bikes!" When my husband explained that he was helping the kids trade places he was yelled at again in a super aggressive way, the man said "I'm not having this conversation with you! You don't need to switch them, just get back on the bikes and go! You're holding everyone up! If you don't move now you can all walk back!" The man was totally unhinged. At this point my 8 year old daughter began to cry and my 11 year old was in shock. The ride back was pretty miserable as we'd all been scared and threatened by this person. They have broken equipment, make no attempt to find a solution and the worst part was the crazed, angry, threatening man running what should be a fun, tourist experience. Avoid this location, especially if you have young children! read more

This was a GREAT experience for our huge group. We had four parents, a two-year old, a three-year old, a four-year old, and two teenagers. The guide was amazingly kind to the kids, and funny, too. The ride was spectacular, downhill fast and easy, uphill tough, but gave me a feeling of accomplishment. I pedaled alone, encouraged by the four-year old and it was do-able. We saw deer, osprey, and lots of scenery. The kids loved it! Even the teens seemed happy! The 2-hour round trip took about that long and I never felt hurried. Out great guide offered to assist on the uphill return if we wished, which I declined, because I'm prideful. :) I would totally take our kids back, and my 70-something parents, too. They sell out for a good reason - Our group of seven had a blast! We were travelling with teens who needed some sunshine - they want to do the ride again. I can say it is true: "Our top priority is to keep our treasured guests and crew safe. Please visit our FAQ page to review our methods to safely cohabit with COVID-19." Book online, website info detailed. We felt very safe and well taken care of by the staff and our Guide named Summer. Bring sun protection and water bottles. Only the two seaters have a small flat rack for bags (zip it, things can fall out, don't make the Guide work so hard). Wildlife and cattle abound along the ride. We obeyed the intersection crossing rules, however encountered no cars. I am "Pandemic-Outta Shape", but the Guide fitted us up and I did fine! This experience was SO COOL. My fiance heard about it from OPB's Oregon Field Guide and was so excited to bring me along. The family who runs this business is warm and friendly, and genuinely cares about your safety and enjoyment! We did the 2-hour ride and it was great--highly recommend it!! The only change I might suggest to the owners is making the seats a little more ergonomically friendly. My partner and I kept sliding forward into an awkward posture, which resulted in some odd tight muscles the next day in my lower back. It was minor enough that I'd do it again though. A great way to spend a few hours in Joseph. My wife and I took our 2 year old twins and they had a huge melt down while waiting to board. One of the staff members went out of his way to come play with them for a few minutes and help us calm them down. He was so kind and the rest of the staff was very friendly as well. What an experience! We did this as a group of 3 (mom & 2 kids) in a 4-seater and we accomplished the entire ride by ourselves!!! Don't be fooled it's a bit of a workout especially on a warm sunny day! Bring lots of water and sunscreen. We reserved extremely last minute the owner had to go out of his way to make this work for us all riding together being a group of 3. We were able to keep our original reservation however they were willing to work with us if needed to changes days due to bike availability. There is an online waiver as expected along with informative and simple to understand email stating rules and tips. Tour group was not large, promptly started on time. We did the 12mi round trip, with beautiful views and quite a few wildlife sightings, even for mid- day. Once you reach turn around destination there is shade canopies and tables to have a snack along with portable restroom. The guides turn bikes around and you are on your way back. We stopped a few times in the shade to catch our breath and relax our legs. The guides are there to help give a push if needed. Extremely friendly staff. Well maintained equipment. Must do while in the area! read more

We had booked our party of 6,including our 83 year old mother. We awoke to 40* rainy weather and kept up hope that the rain would subside. Much to our disappointment, the weather did not improve as our ride time approached and we felt that our upcoming adventure would make some in our party unhappy, and cold! We didn't even have to ask for a refund, they offered! Their intent is that everyone have a great experience. We had. A great experience and didn't even get to go! We saw people riding these strange-looking contraptions are we were driving to Wallowa Lake. So we decided to give it a try. What a blast!!!! The staff was very friendly (thanks Molly for all your help). We pedaled six miles from Joseph to Enterprise. It was mostly downhill even though "downhill" is too strong of a word; we mostly coasted towards Enterprise. At Enterprise, Molly turned the vehicles around and then we learned the reason we'd been coasting to Enterprise as we encountered a headwind and a bit of an uphill towards Joseph. Even though the weather was a bit warm, we were okay as we were pedaling. We saw an osprey nest, we saw farms, horses, gorgeous mountains, beautiful fields and best of all, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. So glad we did it. :-) read more

We had a blast! The Joseph branch Rail Riders is so much fun! It was very easy from Joseph to Enterprise but a little harder on the way back to Joseph. What a great day!! I'm definitely going back to do it again next month. I took the longer trip, leaving from Minam pedaling to Wallowa. Only took 2 hours each direction, though they allow for 3 hours. Took an hour for lunch and then headed back when I was ready. The ride is soooo awesome. Runs along the river much of the way, opposite the highway. A very private view of the river and gazing up at the steep canyon walls was just amazing. I'm 51, and don't bike, so I was a little concerned I wouldn't be able to do this. But I took my time and it was a blast. The railcar/bikes roll so smoothly, hardly takes any pressure to get them to roll, so the gentle climb in the morning was easy. The return run is all downhill. Coasted some of the way. Haley is the guide who followed behind all of us on her own railrider and she was great. Very very friendly. So relaxed. I'm bringing friends with me next time cause I know they'll love it. And, side note, in Wallowa there is a small BBQ place a couple blocks from where we park - the food was amazing. Texas style brisket. So good. We were somewhat wary since my husband is a major cyclist and we like things that are super fun, but we were NOT disappointed! The paddle-boat version of riding on the rails between Joseph and Enterprise was a GREAT way to spend a couple of hours. We heard from locals that they like it, too. I was fairly disappointed with my 2 hour Joseph Rail Riders Tour. The first half wasn't particularly difficult and had some scenic moments, but they don't really mention that the scenery is repeatedly interrupted by riding past broken down buildings and businesses that have seen better days. The spot where our group turned around consisted of a porta-potty baking in the heat near a carpet store. The second half is tougher than the first due to the incline, but we made it fine. The end of my group's journey was marked by simply getting off the rail contraptions and leaving. I hope the longer tour is actually scenic, because the 2 hour tour is not worth the money or effort. read more
