Dr. Joseph Hung of HSS is truly one of the best doctors. I had been suffering from buttock pain for quite some time due to a pinched nerve in my spine. A couple of weeks ago, Dr. Hung administered an epidural injection, and I felt significant relief the very next day. Now, two weeks later, I can say that I am 90-95% pain free. He won't take Medicare patients. Not good for those of us who rely on it. He seemed to do a good job until my husbands corporate insurance ended. Other HSS doctors do take it but this guy seems to not care. read more

I stepped out of my comfort zone of NYC and went the more convenient route staying in CT. From beginning to end HSS has exceeded my expectations. The whole process of getting appointments, approvals from insurance companies to expediting my procedure (Thank you Bernadette!) was hassle free. Now on to Dr. Hung....He has a truly sincere, compassionate way of making you feel you are in good hands. He was extremely reassuring that he indeed could help me. I have been through multiple back and hip surgeries and have seen more MD's then most people see in a lifetime. Dr.Hung is professional and took my extreme anxiety issues into account when preparing me for my procedure. Throughout my procedure he always checked in to see how I was handling it all. Dr. Hung has a great bedside manner and conveys a genuine sense of caring and compassion for his patients and what he does. He listens, explains and takes the time to make sure you understand options and procedures. While undergoing two separate procedures he talked me through every step of what he was doing while he was doing it. Joseph Hung is an exceptionally skilled physician, and he treats his patients with kindness, gentleness,and dignity. He demonstrates his talents and compassion by making the injections administered as pain-free as possible. I have endured significant pain in my hip when walking for at least 10-years, and I have received steroid injections from orthopedists and a pain specialist over this period. I received little relief until I was treated by Dr. Hung. After epidural injections into my lumbar spine followed approximately a month later by steroid injections into my bursa and gluteus medium/minimus, I am almost pain-free. I had pain in my neck and tried physical therapy but could not alleviate it. Dr. Hung was able to completely eliminate any pain I had in my neck with a Cervical Facet Radiofrequency Ablation. Went to see Dr. Hung for some potential back issues and I received great care. He was thorough in his diagnosis, personalized in his treatment, and clear in the explanation of what was going on with me. I have been suffering with a trifecta of problems - sciatica, degenerative disc disease, and an arthritic back. I went to Dr. Hung hoping for the best, but expecting not to have anything offered other than the typical steroid injection or surgery. To my surprise, he mentioned a new procedure to make my pain more manageable - wherein the inflamed nerves could be cauterized to limit the pain signals to my brain. This would give me a chance to not only put on my socks without pain, but also strengthen my core again. It has now been a month, and I was able to fly cross country twice without popping Advil, along with participating in the many demands of a busy life (which included shoveling during the bombogenesis of 2018.) Dr Hung is simply the best. He has excellent bedside manners. I first went to HSS after a miss diagnosis's by another dr. Not only did Dr. Hung solve the pain issue I had with pinpoint accuracy but made me aware of another pain issue that was related and has helped relieve the pain with that issue also. I strongly recommend Dr Hung. recently had a herniated lumbar disc and had an excellent experience and outcome with Dr Hung. Not only the results of the treatment surpassed my expectations ( as other colleagues had similar procedures with other Doctor's with least great outcome). I am so grateful to Dr. Joe Hung and his amazing team of nurses and office staff. I am in my 20s and have had debilitating back pain on and off for 4 years due to herniated discs. In December it was the worst it had ever been. I couldn't work (I am a nurse), sit in a chair, drive, etc. All I could do was lay supine with a pillow under my knees or stand. I was desperate and was about to opt for surgery just so I could be done with the daily pain and live my life. I found Dr. Hung and I am so glad I did! From the start, Bernadette was courteous, answered all of my questions regarding insurance, sent me the required paperwork immediately and kept me updated on earlier appointments. When I arrived for my consultation, Dr. Hung was right on time and took the time to listen to me, assess me and make recommendations without me feeling pressured to do or take anything. I decided to proceed with an epidural to inject steroid medication around the problematic area. When I arrived that day, the nurses I encountered were friendly and efficient. For the actual procedure, Dr. Hung was communicating with me constantly and reassuring me. Most importantly, he is obviously very skilled; after a few days the pain started getting better. As the pain started to ease up, I was able to do more in physical therapy. It is now March and I am a new person! I no longer have pain! I am able to do everything that I needed and wanted to do and so much more! My husband saw Dr. Hung for a herniated C6-C7. He was very communicative and was very patient answering all of our questions and thorough during my examination.
