Would not recommend. Initial conversation was pleasant discussed cost expectations and were put at ease that his fee would be lower than larger (more reputable) firm quotes that we received. He was recommended on Ramsey website to us. Once their work on our taxes was complete and we received his bill- we were surprised! It was exorbitant. MUCH higher than the large firm in our initial meeting with Joe. When discussing this with him and the discrepancy between the fee and our specific cost conversation, he was short, confrontational and belittling. Mr. Gormley's tone was so different than the initial conversation it was hard to believe it was the same person. We are detailed people with record keeping and even made the firm aware of some corrections/ additional deductions that were needed before filing. We have since spoken with others in similar tax situations to ours and it has confirmed our position. This will be a learning lesson for us! We cannot recommend Joe Gormely. read more

I have completed and filed my taxes on my own for most of my adult life. As I got older and my financial situation more complex, it became time-consuming for me to prepare my income tax returns on my own. Like many adults, I believed that hiring a tax professional was the reasonable approach when one's financial situation became complex. I had previous success using Dave Ramsey's ELP program to find reputable professionals, so I used this service to also find a tax professional. I was a bit surprised to learn that the only recommendation was Joseph Gormley. Despite this, I contacted Mr. Gormley and set up an appointment to discuss my needs. I met Mr. Gormley on February 19th, and we went over my needs and his process. Everything seemed straightforward. I uploaded my tax documents to his portal on March 5th. A month later, an associate of Mr. Gormley's, named Kait Frain, emailed me saying that my returns would be ready the following week. After not hearing back the following week, I followed up with Kait, who told me that it was unexpectedly busy, but they'd have them ready the following day. My tax returns were not ready for filing until August. To make matters worse, I owed both federal and state taxes. As someone who always filed and paid on time, I had no knowledge of exactly what happens when taxes are filed and paid late. Mr. Gormley and Kait didn't tell me either. And after I learned that I owed money for filing late, I reached out to them to understand why. Despite my numerous attempts to contact Mr. Gormley and Kait, I've yet to receive any reply from them. I don't think it is unreasonable for me to expect that I would be told about any consequences for late filing and be offered help in rectifying the matter. Especially since I provided all of the documents well over one month before the filing deadline. I paid Mr. Gormley for his expertise, but what I received was the output of basic tax preparation software. I had to figure out how to rectify these tax matters on my own, with significant time and effort lost on my part. These are things that paying a tax professional should include! If I wanted basic tax preparation services, I could have used the software myself, at a fraction of what I paid Mr. Gormley. I feel cheated, and I will never do business with Mr. Gormley or his associate, Kait Frain, again. I've sent a complaint to Ramsey in hopes that they reconsider endorsing this business in their ELP program. read more

What a horrific experience, there is zero communication between the staff at this CPA office. And apparently zero communication with their customers. I should have known better, I thought $400 to file was reasonable, it is reasonable because they do not see the process through to completion. I received a notice in the mail three days ago that I owe the IRS almost $1,500, and it has been collecting interest the last two months. Immediately I called the office and spoke with Kait, who told me to upload the letter to the portal so she could look at it. It was the end of the day, but she said that she would call me Monday after reviewing the letter. Around 2:00 pm on Monday, I called the office, and spoke with Marissa. I was told that Kait was off, so I am not sure why she told me she would be in the office and able to help. In March I was told to upload my w2s and tax documents to the portal, and their office would handle the paperwork. They would submit all of the forms on my behalf. I was told that since I worked two jobs, I was put into the higher tax bracket, and owed $1,300. I was told that the amount I owed would be deducted from my federal return. I had provided my bank account information so that the state return could be refunded directly. Marissa tried to take a look, and see what was happening. She states they never received my bank information, and that I should have mailed the paperwork and check to the IRS in April. I called multiple times between March and April and spoke with Joe & Kait. They answered my questions, and clarified information because this was the first time I did not file alone, and I filed my taxes with a CPA. I purchased a home this year, and have two jobs, so I wanted to use someone reliable to make sure everything was covered and I was filing correctly. Of all the times I spoke with Joe & Kait, it was never mentioned that I need to mail paperwork or a check to the IRS. The paperwork actually states it should be all mailed together, which is another reason I did not question that I was missing anything. I was never asked to provide a check or any further information. Honestly, I would be better off using Turbo Tax. At least they walk you through the steps and ensure that all of the paperwork is completed and submitted on time. What a disappointing experience. read more
