we just had Joe do two jobs for us. First we had a large branch that cracked but didn't break all the way. We called Joe for an estimate. He came out right away and gave us a very fair price. The crew came out the next morning and got the branch down and cleaned the yard. We needed other branches off of some other trees. Joe came back out the following week to do that job. Communication from this office is first rate. Felix and his staff did an incredible job with 7 trees on our property that either needed trimmed or cut down. They were even able to get "the spider" in our backyard to work on a 40 foot oak tree that was in dire need. Each worker was courteous and professional and did a wonderful job! Had some trees staked in rear yard, but done very poorly. Repeatedly asked for someone to come fix them. Company says that people were out to look at them, but still not done to my satisfaction. They also conveniently came out to "look" at them when no one was home as well as not show up for a scheduled appointment . Specific dates and times were requested, but couldn't be provided. Person who I spoke with who handles billing and also is the manager was rude and condescending. Stakes were asked to be removed, but they said they wouldn't do that claiming I wanted the work done for free which wouldn't make sense since I was asking for the stakes to be removed. Do not use this company. They took a tree down on my property, and it hit the side of my home. The tree put multiple holes in my siding and they have yet to call me back or send somebody out to fix it (it has been 5 months). I have been spreading the word locally about this company's bad business practices and I have found a handful of others who have experienced the same problems with this company. Do your self a favor and hire a different company. I finally heard back from somebody stating that they will send somebody out when the weather breaks. The weather has been fine and still nothing. UPDATE: After months of having holes in my siding and it being exposed to the elements, the siding has been repaired. read more

Hired and Paid(foolish) for tree trimming. They scheduled a date for 8/25 and confirmed this on the 24th. On the 25th never showed up not even a phone call from the company to explain the problem. I call office at 3:20pm and they said what is your # we will call you back. They never called back, now credit card fighting a dispute. Initial call for estimate request made last week of June 2020, which was caused by June 3rd storm. Got estimate few days later and setup appointment for first week of August 2020. Did not mind the long wait due to positive reviews here. A day before the appointment, they called and had to cancel due to emergencies from storms yesterday. Did not agree with this as we waited, in queue, for 6 weeks, only to be canceled a day before the appointment. I understand emergencies, but our appointment was caused by weather damage too, and waited patiently for 6 weeks to have our tree taken care of, which may cause more issue and possible damage on my neighbors if storms hits us again. When asked on next schedule, they will give me a call again once they have a schedule. This is very unprofessional, especially treating a new customer, who was willing to wait this long, only to be cancelled on the last minute. i called to get a few estimates with the company - initial call was okay, we set a appointment for the estimate on trees , was told a time between 10am and 12pm. fine with that . Was told they would get back to me on a specific job - if they did or did not do this as part of their service. waited and waited for a response back, no return call. then waited day for the appointment to get estimates on trees being trimmed, pruned and shaped. NO SHOW. call and got oh, they called and left a message that they did not do that specific job. I asked about the trimming, pruning etc. oh got sorry nothing else. Never got a call waited 2 hours when could of been doing something else and or gotten someone else to come out. Customer service is terrible and would not recommend them to any one. read more

Whole experience gives them the 5 stars. Showed up when scheduled for the quote and and the work. Cost was by far the best out of the three other quotes we got. The crew that showed up to do the work were polite and professional. It looked like a tricky job around electric lines but these guys got it done quickly and done well. I called McIlvaine tree service to see if they could remove a dying Ash from my back yard. Joe (the owner) came out within a few days of my request to provide an estimate. Based on the placement of my tree, he informed me I would need a 38 ton crane to remove the tree. I agreed, as a previous company I had out to remove the tree only brought a 28 ton crane and could not do the job. Furthermore, because I am in the Military and was deploying shortly, I asked if they could get to the job pretty quickly. Joe told me that was no problem. However, the day his crew showed up to complete the job, they informed me that it would be impossible to complete. Joe had not ordered the 38 ton crane as he said he would, he ordered a smaller one. The crew told me that the job could not be completed and that the office would contact me within 24 hours. Three weeks later, I had to call the office to find out the status of my job. I was told on the phone that my job had been "canceled." I asked who canceled it, because I had not called to cancel. After some back and forth they could not tell me who canceled it and they could not tell me if/when the job would be completed. They told me they would get back to me later in the day with some answers. 48 hours later I had not heard from them. I called back again and asked to speak to Joe himself. I was told that he was out of the office and they would ask him to call me. This was three days before my scheduled deployment date. I called the next day and asked to speak with him and received the same answer. Finally, the day I was scheduled to depart I called one last time and the office promised me I would hear from him before 5pm. As I write this review, it is three weeks after that last phone call and I never heard from Joe or their office. Every review you read online is accurate. Joe McIlvane Tree doesn't give a damn about customer service, punctuality, or doing whats right. They are a big player in the tree removal world and only care about the big jobs that are going to make them the most money. Avoid them at all costs unless you want to be treated like just another person waiting in line at a DMV. VETERANS AND MILITARY - AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!! read more

These guys are THE BEST!!! They have done several jobs for us, including work done this morning. They are kind and courteous and just do a spectacular job! My neighbors came outside this morning and hired them to remove a tree in their front yard, too! They clean up every last twig before they leave. Joe's prices can't be beat, either. We had received 2 other estimates from very large, well-known companies and they were ridiculously higher than McIlvaine! Way to go, McIlvaine Tree and Lawn Services! Good tree company, which I've used for years. They were very capable of removing large, dangerous trees. First, was a massive silver maple, next was another maple, and, lastly, they just removed an 80 foot white pine tree on my property line. The crew had to climb the tree because a bucket truck would not fit onto my property. I was impressed, and thankful, that the tree climber did an excellent job in taking the tree down with no injuries to anyone, nor damage to a brick fireplace in my yard (or my neighbor's shed and garage). The crew worked all day and took one brief lunch break. Very good work ethic. I bumped it down a notch because they tried to get the huge truck and chipper up my narrow driveway....really? Their prices were below average for extensive work. One tree company wanted double what McIlvane charged me. I think that company was scared off from the massive job. read more

My friend received a proposal, a written quote that was signed by Scott Mcilvane to remove his complete tree. The proposal was agreed upon, and a signed copy was sent to Mcvilvane's office. The PECO electric company was advised for a needede turn off of electric power so the job could be done safely. After waiting three months after the agreed upon proposal, Scott Mcvilvane told the PECO representative to advise my friend that he was withdrawing from the agreed contract. All calls to the company never received a reply . I would surely not deal with this company. They are not at all relieable based upon this true evaluation . read more

I used this tree service on two occasions spending thousands of dollars. On the third occasion I scheduled an appointment to remove 2 trees 2 months in advance. On the day of the work, the crew showed up 5 hours late. Then, after spending another 1/2 hour at my house said that they couldn't do the work because they didn't bring a bucket truck. I called their office on 3 different days over the course of a month and asked to speak to the owner, Joe. All 3 times they said he was too busy to talk with me. The 3rd time, the receptionist told me I was being rude and hung up. Needless to say, I will not be using their services any longer. There are about 10 other tree service companies in the area. read more

Although we were initially happy with the quotes and installation of trees last fall, the customer service since the installation is abysmal. We had one of the 6 trees planted not "take" and have made several attempts to have someone come out to take a look at it. We have an email confirmation that the trees would come with a one year warranty and would like to get it replaced if necessary. One month later and several phone calls later, still nothing. We were told Scott would be here on a Saturday and he was a no show, no call to re-schedule. We are very disappointed with the lack of customer service. Even someone coming out and telling us that the loss would not be covered would have been better than what we received. Would not recommend. read more

Had work done by this company a few years ago I thought they were doing a good job until they did some major damage to my property. After paying almost $4,000 to the owner, I never saw them again. Repeated phone calls were ignored or I was treated rudely. I finally gave up and reported them to the BBB and they said McIlvaine did not respond to three inquiries. The reason I am giving this rating now, is that I have just been able to afford to have the damage repaired. That Landscaping company was fantastic.
