I took my taxes here to have them independently checked after I did them on my own and found out that I owed the government a decent amount of money. They met with me and walked through my situation. After working with them for several weeks they determined that what I owed was accurate. I paid them but determined that there was no need to go to a CPA for my tax situation, as I verified doing the taxes myself was accurate and not overly difficult. I imagine as taxes get more complicated that needing a CPA may be necessary. There was some period of time where my questions were going unanswered but they eventually got resolved, although slower than I had hoped for. A good local business! read more

My fiancé and i rented a house in fishtown from Spina for 2 years. We would have continued our lease but we had to relocate for work. Joe Bernstein was our property manager. I've rented in Philly for about 8 years and having him as our property manager was by far the best experience i've had renting. He's very understanding and will work with you in special situations. i would highly recommend Spina and would rent from them in future if we move back to the city. read more

I used this company for six years and every year I got a surprise in my bill and it was higher than we had previously agreed on. I found out this year by going to another accountant that one of my returns from the year before was never filed. Horrible company with employees that have mental elevators that don't reach the top!! I am currently renting with this company, Spina and Company, LLC and they have been nothing but a nightmare to work with since day 1. I have never met the property manager (Joseph Bernstein) since I've moved in 8 months ago and he never gave us an emergency number or personal number for repairs/damages. He does not answer emails or calls on the weekends and took a long time to reply to emails until my roommate and I pestered him into responding quickly. The house we moved into is constantly having bug/rodent issues and the property manager took a while to respond to these issues. Additionally, he would not complete smaller repairs for us because we needed so many repairs when we first moved in....not our fault. This person is and the company is a mess and I would NOT recommend renting from them. They truly do not care about their tenants and the state of their properties. read more

I have a feeling I'm not in the right place for this, but seeing another review mentioning Joseph Bernstein, and seeing the same physical address as from his email signature... I'm going with this. I've dealt with Joseph Bernstein on a couple occasions now, but solely as a neighbor to one of the properties he manages in Fairmount. I had to contact a random person from a random sign on the building after private company trash people were causing problems, and within hours of them opening that same business day, this random person (Joseph), who didn't have any obligation to respond to a non-tenant, had responded and promised to take care of it. And guess what? It was taken care of! Amazing that in this day and age people can still care about neighbors! If you have to rent from somewhere, I can imagine that these guys would treat their tenants pretty fantastic, since they dealt with this crazy neighbor lady in such an awesome manner. Sidenote, the trash company was hired people, not their internal workers, so don't hold that against them. read more

You get what you pay for in life and I decided several years ago that I did not want to take any shortcuts on doing my taxes. (Whats that saying? "A lawyer who represents himself has a fool for a client?" . . .) Too many details I'm not equipped to manage or follow btw personal and small business dealings. And, I know as a lawyer that I can't POSSIBLY know all the ins and outs for tax filings, exemptions, etc - too many traps for the unwary - so I'm happy to turn to the professionals to do this for me. Spina & Co, LLC completed our personal and business tax returns in 2017. We discovered ourselves that a top line gross income was incorrect, though we provided the correct amount to Spina. For an amended return, duplicates of certain information were requested again and we supplied them promptly. We submitted the amended return and paid the additional taxes Spina had recalculated. But PA says we still owe some taxes (plus interest and penalties), and the IRS has billed for interest. I learned that the person first preparing our return had been terminated, but response to queries and corrections by the replacement was slow or, at times, non-existent. I was very patient through the Fall of 2017 to get a complete resolution to this problem by promptly complying with all requests for information and tax payments. But now, in March of 2018, after getting a bill from the IRS for accruing interest, and a PA income tax situation still not resolved as a result of the original problem (with additional interest and penalties), I had no response from Spina by email after an additional two weeks. So I left a sharp voice message that I wanted the return reviewed by the head of the company and a resolution soon. Response? Spina will "not be preparing your 2017 taxes moving forward." OK, are you going to fix last year's? "No Sir we are complete on our end." They had two chances to get our return right, and now they refuse to do any work on it at all. Walking away from their mistake strikes me a singularly unprofessional. I paid the full bill for Spina's services last year in a timely fashion. Yet the bill for preparing my return was almost 100% higher than the original estimate, even though the head of the company reviewed my documents and discussed my situation with me directly beforehand. I've filed taxes for 45 years. Never had this kind of problem before. read more

We are 6+ months out of the lease and with no return of her security deposit and no less than 10 unanswered phone calls. Now I call the office and it is on auto disconnect. We rented from Spina. My experience was exactly the same as another review ( which inspired me to write this). We were indeed a bit sloppy moving out, I won't deny this. We could have cleaned the floors better sure, but they used that to extort us for thousands. They charged us for a door-frame and a dishwasher which had been broken since the day we moved in. Every time we attempted to discuss this we were simply told " Pay or we sue". They knew we couldn't afford court costs and they used this to bully us into paying their absurd charges. They are the definition of amoral. DO NOT rent from this business if you want to be treated fairly. read more
