Surgery fusion of lower spine. Some relief, at first, but downhill since then. Mentioned I was not happy at all with results at my follow-up, Dr. Nguyen seemed surprised. He kept mentioning how my left side had been completely fixed. Except it was the sciatic pain on my RIGHT that caused me to come in. But maybe left fixes right side? Referred me to a facility for a nerve conductive study. Called them, they said first appointment was 6 months later. Called back to Joseph Spine, the said they would consult with Nguyen and get back to me. Called three days later, got apologies. Said I would get a call back with a name soon. Three weeks later, back to Dr. Nguyen. He was baffled, said I was fixed. I indicated the pain was WORSE, in many ways, than BEFORE the $90,000, AFTER DISCOUNTS, that we were charged. Kept insisting he "fixed me". That this must be "something else". Suggested physical therapy, which I started. After three weeks, sciatic pain still there. (Although some of my OTHER aches and pains are gone!). BTW, my physical therapy prescription was for a "pulled hamstring",mwhich I last had playing football 45 years ago. While there, I asked Dr. Nguyen who/why the the monitoring people they called to help were. Firm charged $38,000 and WERE NOT IN MY NETWORK! My insurance rejected the whole $38,000 claim!!?? Every part of the billing!!!????! And get this, Joseph Spine Institute USES THEM ALL THE TIME!!??? At least according to the billing firm. These people were called in while I was on the table, knocked out, and did their thing. That LIE was the last straw. STAY AWAY from these guys!! They are ripoffs who overcharge, use deceptive billing practices (I wonder if there are kickbacks to the Institute? Probably, but I have no way of knowing) and are very short on compassion. A few months ago I went here and got an MRI requested. And got the MRI done and came back here to go over it with the Dr. And they came to the conclusion I had 2 herniations in my back. After that they instantly recommended spinal injection. And I was scared to do that off the bat so I went to PT. That they recommended me too. Months go by and no progress on my pain. So I went to an orthopedic center in Orlando and the Dr goes over my CD and turns out I have NOOO herniations or bulges in my back. And he shows me these images off the disc. There's no sign of any herniations at all. Crazy right. He sees in the MRI that there is some inflammation in my Facet Joint. And I will be going to them for now on. read more

My appointment was 8:30am and I went in crying with such pain. The Dr said he would call in a script for the pain and inflammation. I waited all day for CVS to send me the text it was ready. After no text, I call the Dr. off and the girl said he calls in scripts at the end of the day. Now about an hour later, I called again.... she answered and told me it would be the end of the day[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]At 4:45 I called for the 3rd time and got the answering service, and they were unable to leave my message regrading following up on the script.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Here it is 8:30 the next day and I called again.... The lady stated she didn't have access to see if the script was called in (which it isn't as I called CVS)[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I have lost a full day, and it looks like today will be the 2nd day of not getting the steroid's in my body for inflation and nothing for the horrible pain. If they don't do it today, I will have to go the entire weekend. I pray they do whats right for a patient in pain and call in the script. You are hoping there are still some non invasive paths to be explored, but deep down you know that surgery is likely on the horizon. And, that's a scary word. I did a lot of online research before deciding that Dr. Nguyen with Joseph Spine Institute was going to be the doctor to whom I surrendered my trust and well-being to and I couldn't be happier with that decision. Not only is he an incredible surgeon, but he's an all-around good person. My appointments were never rushed, he answered every question I asked (even the ridiculous ones) and genuinely seemed to care about my well-being. He did not immediately recommend surgery as a course of action to reduce my pain. But when it was the last option on the table, he tried to alleviate my concerns while still being honest about the procedure, the risks involved and the recovery ahead. I am now almost 4 months post-op from an ACDF procedure (C5-7) and still have nothing but positive things to say about this office and specifically this doctor. i will began by saying that I saw Dr Nguyen the first time n he looked at my MRI and reports in which he said he was going to help me with my cervical problems n gave me a referral for USF which no one ever call me back , he gave me cervical injection which made me feel worse n perhaps because I didn't want any more shots, today when I saw him he claim that all I have is arthritis of the neck when my MRI report says I have issues that need to be taken care by a neurosurgeon but he didn't seem to be concerned or write any notes or the fact that I was hurting and he also told me to look up the phone number for USF, I will call my insurance and complain about this. read more

Do not go here. Most disorganized office, and they set your recovery to fail to push for multiple surgeries. Also paid for services not rendered and in more pain than before the surgery and Dr Nguyen says it's not from my surgery?! What do you mean? I had no home health or physical therapy arrangements after insisting on MANY occasions I needed it and requested it (being a bariatric patient and was concerned for a few reasons) I needed assistance at home being I live in a 2 story. It took having to find a physical therapy office on google because I was at whits end. Surgery was 1/30.... didn't get any proper therapy until June 15th.... I 100% did not get the proper care I needed to ensure I didn't have a re-injury. I just started physical therapy after just walking into a place and having them request a referral from him which AT THAT POINT he gave the ok. I have tons of information proving what a headache my experience has been and I have had it. I have a life long condition which is also a reinjury, currently going to physical therapy AND THESE PEOPLE HAVE NERVE saying they cant assist with paperwork being that I don't "follow up" for my pain and don't want another surgery....but I saw you twice in a 2.5-3month time span TWICE. Well yeah of course I go somewhere else (referring to physical therapy) more often when you don't have any helpful advice with my chronic pain and you tell me to "see my chiropractor or we can do another surgery " who doesn't give me anywhere near the relief than what physical therapy does (just want to crack one spot and give me a massage ) .... my dude, you diagnosed my condition, sent me for MANY mri(s), operated on MY SPINE, set my recovery to fail because you're living up the dream outside of the office, and wrote paperwork for my life long condition that I would have flair ups of pain from the condition and physical therapy.... and now you're telling me that you can't complete my paperwork and can't document I have pain? Get outta here!. This place seriously gives me the vibes they don't want to help you out / work with you unless you're willing to sacrifice your body and $120,000 just wanted to write a completely honest review of this practice, the staff, and Dr Nguyen. I waited WEEKS for my appt with Dr Joseph, went to a lot of trouble getting a MRI done in time for my appt then I have a msg from his assistant the week before my appt to call her back about the appt. I call her several times and she never answered and even called her cell. I called the front desk and they said they had no idea why she was calling me. I just called (my appt is tomorrow) and made the front desk check that everything's good with my appt tomorrow and they tell me she cancelled my appt! WTH? What a waste of time! I had BACK PAIN for months saw DR JOSEPH for like FIVE MINUTES he tells me I need to get physical therapy and come back and see him? No proper check or anything so I get an MRI go to physical therapy (at his practice) and wait all this time for them to just canx on me?! Never again. Before my surgery, I loved all the 5 stars. After surgery I realize they ask us to write our review quickly. Sure with all the strong pain meds, we feel great. But, down the road that's not the case for me, I'm having a lot of pain and I was told thru an x-ray that I'm perfect. I know I'm not. No MRI or Cat Scan, with an x-ray. 8th back surgery for me and in all my 22yrs of back problems, pains have been found by an MRI or Cat Scan, not an x-ray. He seems to have no interest in finding out why I'm dealing with leg and lower back pains. I need to mention I was told "I just do my job, I don't track height". I can tell you that, I'm 2 inches shorter for no medical needed reason. Before surgery, I'm doing the top and connecting to the lower flat back (other surgeries), when I couldn't speak up during surgery, it changed and he put a curve in my lower back (my 2 inch loss). Tried to tell me that being bent forward in my x-ray was at least the reason for 1 inch, nope I lean backwards and often feel off balance. I asked as to why and he seemed just defensive. No compassion for my height loss and let me tell you the huge change in my perspective for everything is beyond words, terrible. Get a garment person to adjust your clothes, not a good answer to me. No compassion or sorry. So do I recommend him... I don't have to answer that. read more

I was super nervous and swore I would never get any surgery on my neck or back. After suffering with chronic pain from two herniated disc for two months I finally decided to go look in to getting surgery. I did my research and everybody that I spoke to you about Dr. Joseph said they had really good results. I got a two level fusion on Friday I was back to work on Monday. The pain I had my shoulder was immediately gone after the surgery . It's been a week since the surgery and now I'm back to the gym amd almost all normal activities minus lifting heavy weight. I had gone to pain management about 14 years for back pain. I had years of injections, and painful burning of nerves. I got to the point of just going to the grocery store was difficult.
