What a nice sunny warm winter day to take a spin to Tahlequah. Add fantastic authentic traditional food from Jose's Mexican Restaurant and it doesn't get much better. Jose's is located on the east side of S. Muskogee Ave. on Monroe. The restaurants had been in business for quite a few years. The locals know where it is. Google search pays off for those of us that don't. Jose's menu is small, with all the right stuff. Tacos, Gorditas, Sopes, Burritos, Enchiladas, Tortas and a good selection of meats. All that you need and nothing that you don't for authentic Mexican food. Three sopes for me and my wife got the enchilada plate. We ordered barbacoa for both meals. I added a small queso, salsa and chips. They cost extra. They are worth it. The sopes were excellent, very filling. Two would have been enough. The red sauce on my wife's enchiladas was the real deal traditional red chili sauce. The barbacoa was well seasoned, tender chunks of beef. Salsa wise, the mild was fair, the picante had bite and flavor, the queso excellent and the green was world class delicious. The green salsa was served warm and it was wonderful! Excellent authentic food, served fresh, good service, order at the counter. A clean restaurant with a big dining area. Jose's has some of the best of what I call traditional authentic style Mexican food, that we have had in Oklahoma. read more

My family of 5 stopped into this spot after a quick search for Mexican cuisine. This unassuming spot with a small menu doesn't disappoint. Everything is delicious; especially the burritos. Chicken dishes are on point (can't speak to beef). Quesadilla was 1.5-thumbs up approved by a pretentious 14 year old hungry hippo. When back in Tahlequah, we'll definitely return. read more

You might think you've made a wrong turn, but park in front of what looks like a shopping center. A simple and clean decor and a welcoming face (masked for Covid) behind the counter where you order. Chalk board menu gives choices of meat from Asada to Lengua. Choose your delivery style, taco, burrito, sopas. Authentic and simple, full of fresh flavors and that cilantro and onion, mmmuah! 1 star of 1 for service. 1 of 1 for simple and clean atmosphere. 2 of 2 starts for rich flavors, fast prep, and visually appealing. 1 star of 1 for if I will come back. Took us till almost last day of our visit to find this place! Yum! Service is good, food is even better. We had carne Asada. Guacamole, and cheese sauce were both excellent. Salsa was ok, but I'm used to a chunkier fresh salsa. We'll definitely be back on our next trip. read more

You probably already know by now that Jose's has excellent food. I want to add that with the social distancing efforts underway to try and save lives, Jose's is doing great with pickup orders. Their food travels well and tastes just as good at home. Really appreciate Jose's keeping up the excellent food while helping to 'flatten the curve'. read more

Don't expect fast service when you come here. The chips may or may not be stale. Oh, and chips and salsa are not complimentary. If you dine in, you also will not be checked on. Despite all of this, the steak tacos are the best. read more

This was a to go order / paid almost $12 for a half of a small bag of chips and a small container of guacamole and 1 tiny side of salsa - I couldn't eat the salsa because it had an off taste . Guacamole was a bit bland . read more

I live in San Diego, arguably the best taco shops in the country. When someone recommended that our group of old friends go to Jose's for the best Mexican food anywhere I was skeptical to say the least. It's a pretty down and dirty little Mexican grocery store and taco shop, which is just the way I like 'em, so I was encouraged when we drove up...though I'm sure it would turn some people off...they would be wrong. I hate fancy Mexican food chain restaurants...just average corporate Mexican food at best. Jose's reminded me of home for sure. We got the first bowl of guacamole and chips to start things off and wow...seriously the best guacamole I've ever had. I was shocked. Everything else was very good as well...highly recommended. I've been back to Tahlequah a couple of times since then and always stop in at Jose's for a great, authentic Mexican food meal. read more

Authentic Mexican food; portions are small, but very inexpensive. They don't have a very large menu; compare it to a food truck. It's delicious... Everything on the menu. I always order asada tacos with queso and avocado. Lately I've been getting the quesedilla dinner. The only thing that I wish that they would ad is salsa to go with the chips. The guacamole is awesome! Just the right amount of cilantro. Burritos are huge and if you are a light eater would be plenty for two meals. Prep does take longer than fast food so call ahead if you are in a hurry. read more

This is the place to find authentic mexican foods. I especially love the baraboca, however the portions are very small and a bit too pricey. Dining is not anything to speak about however if your get take out you can dress it up some at home. This family run business is one of the best in the area even though the atmosphere is very poor and service is very slow. read more
