My family of 5 stopped into this spot after a quick search for Mexican cuisine. This unassuming spot with a small menu doesn't disappoint. Everything is delicious; especially the burritos. Chicken dishes are on point (can't speak to beef). Quesadilla was 1.5-thumbs up approved by a pretentious 14 year old hungry hippo. When back in Tahlequah, we'll definitely return.

All gone, salsa and a large queso!

WoW! Asked a worker in our hotel for his favorite restaurant in town. He said Jose's was the best around! Obviously he's not a liar! 3 asada enchilada dinner coupled with smoky salsa and a side of queso and this man is done! As real as I've had since San Antonio!

    Veg burrito- great roasted veggies

Great diner with homemade, flavorful food! (Note for veg's: the beans have a small amount of choizo)

Salsa and guacamole, very poor value

This was a to go order / paid almost $12 for a half of a small bag of chips and a small container of guacamole and 1 tiny side of salsa - I couldn't eat the salsa because it had an off taste . Guacamole was a bit bland .

Doesn't look like much but the food is the bomb.com

They have great food. But the wait time is awful. Had to wait about 50 minutes on a TO-GO order. Seems like they need to hire a new cook

Three big corn tortillas filled with seasoned chicken, smothered with freshly made green sauce, and as an extra touch, covered with grilled onion, cilantro and a generous sprinkle of cotija cheese. A tasty plate of fancy enchiladas, not typical of small town OkieMex joints. My Torta was remarkable. I am sticking firm to this assessment...It was the best that I have ever had!! A fresh soft bolillo, mayo, lettuce, tomato, jalapeno, cheese and a little avocado. I got the two meat Torta. Tender flavorful barbacoa and carnitas prepared properly with a nice crispy fried finish. An excellent sandwich. The sandwich was wrapped up tightly in paper, holding the loaded hand meal together until I pealed it back. I devoured the sandwich. Great service, clean comfortable restaurant. Impressive food. Another great option in Tahlequah. Note: try the carnitas here!!!

Imagine if you will the small town of Tahlequah having a large clean new Mexican restaurant; Hacienda Vieja. It is nice. The owners' spent a few bucks to build out a large, nicely decorated restaurant, inside and out. Big parking area in the back. I believe it is associated with one of the Oklahoma based Mexican restaurateur cartels, that operate a chain of restaurants you would recognize by name. They advertise as authentic with excursions into TexMex cuisine. Looking at the menu I would say it's basically OkieMex, with some nice upgrades. To find the menu Google, Hacienda Vieja, then click on the "Order on Line." That will take you to a useable version of the menu. The lunch menu is a deal! My wife went with the Sophia Special; two spinach enchiladas covered with red enchilada sauce and cheese sauce, served with rice and beans. The filling for the enchiladas was delicious. A mixture of fresh onions and spinach, grilled. The combination of red enchiladas sauce and queso worked well as a tasty covering for the enchiladas. I had the Special Lunch 1. A chili relleno, taco, refried beans and guacamole. Plenty of food, check the picture. Everything was mildly seasoned. A little help from the good salsas was needed. The guacamole was too salty, even for my taste, and a little bland. Let's not forget the chips and salsa and a special dip! The red salsa good and green salsa; an excellent fire roasted jalapeno salsa. It had heat, but mild enough that my wife ate almost as much as I did. Then there is this thing in the appetizer section called NSU Dip. I would describe it as bunch of Mexican food left overs, thrown together as a midnight snack, after getting home from a late night at the bar. Maybe that is its origin, invented by a NSU student. Who knows? It was a conglomeration of chicken, ground beef, beans, Pico de Gallo, jalapeño slices and cheese dip. Surprisingly damn good! The service was very good start to finish. The restaurant has a nice outdoor dining area for those few Oklahoma summer days, when you can stand to be outside. Clean and modern inside! The lunch menu is a bargain. We had two filling meals, an order of NSU dip, chips and good salsa, iced tea and a water. All coming in for a bill of around $27 without a tip. That is a good deal! Try it!

So, it has only been open for approximately four months as of today. It has some very favorable reviews on Google. I agree with the good reviews I have read. I was surprised to see that it had not been set up on Yelp. The building has been attractively remodeled and expanded, since our visit. It needed the improvements. Even with the upgrades, it still shows the telltale characteristics of a typical well worn, small town OkieMex restaurant, operating in a repurposed structure. It is clean and comfortable. Very well staffed with friendly attentive servers. Chips, salsa and drinks were delivered instantaneously, after we found a booth. The fresh hot food followed only minutes after our order was taken. This is full flavor, well-seasoned OkieMex food. Nothing was bland. The mild salsa had good flavor and the salsa picante offered professional grade heat also, with flavor. I didn't have to dump a bowl of salsa on anything to give it seasoning but, the fiery picante was a handy condiment to bring the heat levels up. For us the #18 lunch: beef taco and enchilada with rice and beans and the #24 Burrito Guadalupano with delicious seasoned grilled chicken. The burrito was a meat packed, plate filling monster, half went home in a box. The taco and enchilada were packed with perfectly seasoned beef. Tasty queso on the enchilada and burrito. I was surprised and pleased. Good food, good dining experience!
