I think my husband and I went 10 years (or more) without going out for ice cream. We've been hearing such good things about a few local ice cream spots and so about 6 months ago, I declared "trying the local ice cream" as one of my goals for 2025. We started with Josh and John's and were extremely impressed. Over the next couple months we tried the other two in the tri-lakes area. They were good but we couldn't stop talking about the amazing ice cream and staff and Josh and John's. We've been there 3 times now. Our absolute favorites are the salted peanut butter cup and mocha java jolt. The flavors are giant. I love this place. Will be on our rotation for sure. read more

The best ice cream, hands down, in Colorado Springs. The Flying Horse location is the best, better customer service and shorter wait times. Tons of different flavors (try Moose on the Loose), gluten and dairy free, and an occasional sorbet. Special flavors are $1 up charge. Get it in a cup or cake cone, the waffle cones are weirdly chewy and taste like they're dipped in cinnamon. The hot fudge is the best topping. The milkshakes are good, but aren't made with real milk. They are made with a special powder of milk and milkshake base made specially for J&J. If you do, get the rainbow sprinkles mixed in for extra decadence. Grab a pint, ice cream cake, or ice cream sandwich on the way out For later...you'll want more. Good for an after dinner nightcap. Limited indoor seating but the outdoor patio is wonderful. read more

I don't know if I picked the wrong flavors, but they were just okay (and yes, I have had those same flavors before at other places). The ice cream wasn't overly creamy. We've been here a couple times and this has to be one of my favorite ice cream spot in the Springs. They make their ice cream locally and have so many great flavors. My favorite is the yellow cake (yellow cake base with Nilla wafers) and purple mountain majesty (taro base with chocolate raspberry cups). Honestly you can't go wrong with anything though. There's also gluten free flavors and vegetarian, so everyone can enjoy something. All of the people that's helped us were always nice. This mousse based blend of baked brownies and chocolate bits will have your friends begging for a bite. Details: chocolate mousse base with brownie bits and chocolate covered caramel cups the Ice Cream was excellent. It wasn't my favorite Ice Cream ever, but I see why it is loved. Heck we arrived at 9 o'clock at night and the line was out the door. The Waffle cone was the best thing. The make their own and I could've eaten just that, it was amazing. This ice cream shop has made it to #1 on my list! I can't believe I've never been here before. But to be honest, I'm not always hanging out in the springs. Nonetheless, their waffle cones are a must try! Homemade right in shop! My friend's cone was so fresh it was a bit warm still when she got served. When I went, they had a banana Oreo that was delicious. The banana wasn't overpowering and, well, I find it hard to ever go wrong with Oreo ice cream. I also liked how they had a variety of unique flavors that made them stand out compared to other ice cream shops. Can't wait to come back :) read more

I stopped by this location with a few friends and we all liked the flavors we picked. This spot is better then downtown, in my opinion, because it is easier to access and has more parking. One thing to mention is they make their own waffle cones and cups. When my friend ordered his scoop in the cone, it melted his ice cream because the cone was still hot off the iron. read more

I'm in town visiting friends and they insisted we take the kiddos here to grab some ice cream. I mean, I'm not a kid anymore but yeah I don't say no to ice cream either! Located in a small strip of stores right off a main road with a large shared parking lot makes parking a breeze. They have tables set up outside too if you chose to enjoy your treat on site or offer awesome to-go lids to bring your goodies with you. Lots of yummy flavors to choose from and they allow you to sample them before you decide which is your favorite. They have a board of toppings to pick from too and all toppings we tried we fresh and very tasty. Ice cream is sold in scoops and you can mix and match if you choose. They also offer milkshakes, ice cream sandwiches, and per my friend "really awesome" root beer. Overall a great place to get a tasty treat with a great views of the mountains. We returned today for more of this delicious ice cream. So the super good ice cream is definitely what gives me the patience to wait in the relentless line. We determined they are consistently inefficient. The way they take and fill orders is not efficient. My lowered score today is due to the fact that the process needs revision and I feel like it's just minimal effort by the staff. Don't get me wrong, we are talking a crew of teens. Though there was a man observing, who it appeared was their superior. It was 6 pm and they ran out of whip cream ( the canister malfunctioned) when trying to make my son's sundae. They spent a minute trying to fix the canister and then just moved on. So that means no one else who ordered a sundae tonight was getting whip cream. I was told they couldn't get it to work. Then my daughter's shake was extremely full. Bonus for her but the kid had no hole for a straw as they put a to go lid on it. So when she tried to take the lid off, shake went everywhere. Their ice cream is great but the service and process is daunting. I also feel after 3 trips here now, that they are not consistent with serving sizes. We love "Josh & Jonnny's" as we have nicknamed it!!! The ice cream is always fresh and delicious, and the workers are always so nice and cheerful. Their cookies and cream is fantastic, and it's extra flavorful because of the way they churn it. They even have a special complimentary cup of ice cream for dogs, and we take my service dog here every year on her birthday for a special treat! She has a sensitive tummy, so I only give her ice cream from here because I know it's high quality. The staff have been so kind to us, and even gone out of their way to help us when I had recently been hospitalized and was too sick to wait in line on her birthday. Just moved to the Springs and this is my new favorite ice cream place. I've tried moose on the loose and malted mazel toff and they're so good! Really hits the spot. The employees are always super friendly and try to engage in conversation when help you. There is some seating inside, but also a few picnic tables outside of the building where you can sit and enjoy your ice cream. I'd really love to get a punch card started, but it seems like they either don't have or offer physical punch cards. When I tried to use the digital punch card through the QR code, the employee who was helping me didn't know how to use it either. No big deal, I'll keep coming back to try more flavors! read more

I usually love eating my waffle cones but this was inedible for me. I got 2 kinds of ice cream. I wasn't a fan at all of the oatmeal one (I probably should've sampled it first. But the cookies and cream was great. I saw root beer on the menu and was excited to try it because I usually love root beer but this was absolutely my least favorite one I've ever had. The licorice taste was overwhelming and it had a lot of spice to it. Definitely will never order that again. Honestly, the rest of my family got all basic flavors and loved theirs.
