The text on the storefront promises chocolate, but the universe operates on a system of constant misdirection. Five of us wandered inside looking for ice cream instead. We were trying to recover from the physical indignity of ascending a mountain high enough that oxygen was treated as a luxury commodity. The government of Colorado apparently believes that every settlement in the entire state requires an abundant supply of frozen dairy. If true, this is an enlightened public policy. The shop was completely empty when we arrived. A lone young man stood behind the counter because his coworker was on break. He did not look at us with the despair usually reserved for a sudden crowd. He simply smiled and began scooping with the enthusiastic efficiency of a soldier waiting for reinforcements. I purchased a double scoop containing Salted Peanut Butter Cup and a flavor called Moose on the Loose. The second flavor contained enormous chunks of fudge that were buried deep within the cream like forgotten treasure. It was exactly the sort of heavy molecular fuel a human body requires after arguing with a giant rock. There was also a glass cooler filled with vintage sodas. Nostalgia routinely robs my wallet before my intellect can mount a defense. I purchased an RC Cola and spent ten minutes explaining to the members of our group born in the 90's that there was a time in human history when cola came in more than two respectable varieties. We went into Red Dog Coffee and they have a few different flavors of ice cream including coffee ice cream which looked good. Pikes Peak has more options and more flavors. They have ube ice cream which I was super excited about since it's so hard to find that in COS! Mix it with the oatmeal ice cream and you have a delightful shake ready to be devoured. Friendly staff and great treats! They have a great variety of josh and johns ice cream along with desserts like bonbons and cookies. Unfortunately there isn't any indoor seating which makes it hard to meet up with friends in the winter. They had a small child with them and asked me to move twice so they could lift her up to see the flavors, as if I wasn't standing there looking at the flavors myself. This is great place is great to pick up a scoop of Josh & John's ice cream. I got a coffee ice cream that had chocolate covered coffee beans in it and it totally rocked my world. They also have a wall full of fantastic mugs and fun things! I saw a BB8 Teapot that I absolutely fell in love with. They also have a long case of chocolates. They don't mar it there and I don't think it's by a local company, so I wasn't very interested in getting any. That coffee ice cream was all that I needed! read more

She answered every question we had before we settled on a Josh and Johns salted Carmel peanut butter banana shake. It was sweet, salty, and savory-even healthy (lol) because I added fruit! My fiancé got the peppermint bark. It was sweet, chocolatey, rich and crunchy with peppermint bits. A lovely introduction into the holiday season! I got the toffee bark with espresso bits. It had a nice crunch, accompanied by the kick of espresso bits laced through it. This was a great experience, the staff is friendly and we loved the variety. The pecans are roasted and over loaded with salt. I have experienced all the nuts here are on that same level of extra salty. I'm not that big into it but maybe you are. I often grab some rocky mountain road ice cream could be better if it had marshmallow cream instead of actual marshmallows. read more

Our two visits to the Manitou Springs location were great! They have delectable sweet treats and is a better, more local alternative to Durango-based Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. The shop is cute, and on our visits they've had a plate of various samples by the register. The clerks on each occasion have both been efficient and accurate. One was friendly and engaging, the other more silent (but that did not affect the vibe of the store or her job performance). We LOVE the fact that PPC has dark, milk, and white options for nearly all of their chocolate products. On our two visits, we've ordered all sorts of savories including marzipan, salted caramels, coated pretzels, peanut butter cups, barks, etc. Surprisingly, the truffles here are my least favorite- don't get me wrong, they're good, but they're not as fabulous as I've had elsewhere. The truffles come in two sizes and there are plenty to choose from. My favorites have consistently been the dark choc almond bark and dark choc peanut butter cups. The almonds seem to have been salted and roasted before getting mixed with the choc, because this bark has more flavor than ones I've had elsewhere! And the peanut butter in the cup is creamier and more "real" than what you'd get in a Reese's. Haven't tried the ice cream yet, but we have had Josh & John's elsewhere so I think we know what to expect. I subtracted a star for having only one clerk working the counters on each of our visits (this is true for their new downtown store, too), requiring customers next in line to have some patience; their website does not list hours, history, or information on where/how they source the chocolate; and the truffles, which are more expensive than their other chocolate products, are not the best items they have to offer. read more
