What I though would be a happily ever after turned out to be an absolute nightmare! I really did not think that I would be writing this review. I underwent a series of scar revisions back in July with Dr. Hyman that turned out to be a disaster. I knew I needed to wait to write this review because I was angry and wanted to avoid delivering an emotionally driven review. Here are the facts. I went on a stringent hunt for a skilled plastic surgeon that could perform a series of scar revisions for me without the use of dissolvable sutures. I was adamant about that given my nature of hypertrophic and keloid scarring. After reading the good reviews and what I though was a really good exchange with his coordinator, I thought I had found the right place. I confirmed on numerous occasions that we would be using a subcutaneous suture that would be pulled out in 7-10 days, as I had sustained an adverse reaction from dissolvable sutures before. I made it so clear and Dr. Hyman assured me that we were using sutures that would be removed. I even confirmed again while I was on the table before we began. (It was done locally, so I was wide awake and coherent.) The only question he asked was if I wanted the sutures continuous of interrupted. I opted for continuous because interrupted can leave a "track mark effect". A week after the procedure, I noticed that things were starting to heal adversely. I went in a series of times within the first 2 weeks after my recovery because I knew that the healing did not look right. Even though he kept brushing it off, I remained persistent about bringing my concerns to Dr. Hyman's attention. They were also extremely painful, which I knew was unusual. I expressed my concern and a month later my dissatisfaction. He was very dismissive even stating that I could look online to confirm this was normal healing. I knew better! None on my concerns were assuaged. Fast forward to nearly 3 months later, I had to undergo yet another scar revision with another specialist because I was no longer comfortable with Dr. Hyman. Beside, how could I trust him after he used dissolvable sutures anyway even after I instructed him not to and was assured that he wouldn't. I am aware that there are risks involved in cosmetic procedures and revisions, but only if you are utilizing methods to create the absolute best result without any possible known adversities. In this case, I was crystal clear about my adverse experience with a previous procedure with the use of dissolvable sutures. I couldn't have made it clearer. What he should have said in the consultation was that he wasn't sure if he could achieve the desired result without using dissolvable sutures. I would have respected that and moved on. Instead, he chose to put his bottom line ahead of the patient and created the worse possible outcome. I would have been open to a correction but how could I trust him? I had togo see another specialist after 3 months of continuous scar tissue buildup at all the sites of revision because my body was treating the dissolvable sutures like foreign objects and creating even more scar tissue around them. (Refer to the photos) That was after the scar revision if you could believe that! I went through a heinous summer of scarring that was far worse than the original injury because this doctor did what he wanted to do without any accountability. It's very important to locate a surgeon that you can trust. The surgeon who just removed the scar tissue and revised showed me the sutures in the scar tissue that NEVER DISSOLVED! I am now two weeks post op from the revision to correct this mess and thankfully the scarring looks a heck of a lot better! My sense of esteem is finally being restored after this mess. I urge you skip what I went through and be stringent in vetting your potential plastic surgeon. read more

Unfortunately, I had a terrible experience with Dr Hyman. I went to him for a nose revision surgery and brought pictures in of what I was looking for. He assured me he could easily accomplish what was needed. I also got approved for 24 months interest free financing however his assistant printed out the wrong form for 12 months. After having my surgery, my nose started to look much worse than it originally did and I had a collapsed nostril. I kept coming back in for check ups and he kept telling me it was simply scar tissue and my nose would "even out." Friends and family started to comment on my nose as it was now completely twisted on the bottom but Dr Hyman refused to acknowledge there was a problem with my nose. He started to offer to give me a discount on another revision if I got my breasts done as well. This time I got smart, shopped around and went to doctors who ONLY do noses. It took $30k to fix my nose properly on the last surgery and an 8 hour surgery. My new surgeon had the records from Dr Hyman's surgery and was absolutely shocked at what he had done. The uneven parts on my nose was actually leftover cartilage NOT scar tissue and as said I had a collapsed nostril. When I contacted Dr Hyman to ask for sort of refund etc, he lied saying he had told me from the beginning he didnt do graphs etc. that conversation never came up, all that was said was he could do what I wanted. He then even tried to say my nostrils were collapsed already which was absolutely not true because insurance pays for a collapsed nostril as they did in ny last surgery. The worst part of all of this is that as I said Hyman's office printed out the wrong form for financing. I was making total loan payment / 24 months on an automatic payment so didn't realize until a year and a half later that i was charged $3k EXTRA for interest because my loan wasnt paid in 12 months. I contacted Dr Hyman's office about this error and was told: " As far as the financing, Alphaeon is third party and there is really nothing we can do on our end. Unfortunately, It really comes down to reading what you sign even with human error. Trust me if there was anything I could do I would do whatever possible. I know you haven't known me very long but any time you have reached out to me I have gotten back to you right away and always addressed your concerns. That being said I completely get why you are upset I would be as well so I can't knock you for that." Dr Hyman really seemed like a nice doctor when I went in to meet him however the way he handled this situation was really awful and he shouldn't be doing noses. Its really a more complicated surgery. He should have offered to atleast refund me part or the surgery or to make me whole on the issue with the financing. Do your due diligence when picking a doctor, I really wish I had gone straight to my new doctor instead of enduring a surgery with Hyman, losing $8k PLUS $3k in interest fees and the humiliation of a worse nose for a year and a half. If you are looking for a nose doctor, I HIGHLY recommend Dr Richard Davis in Florida. Ive had 3 other girlfriends fly down to Florida just to have surgery with him. Hes the absolute best, if you contact me I'm more than happy to show you my before and after photos. UPDATE: Dr hyman's response: 'You came to me for multiple procedures since and have sent numerous friends to me." That is an absolute lie. I only went to Dr Hyman for check ups throughout 2018. I never sent a single person to him and have not set foot in his office since 2018, surgery was November 2017. I have NEVER had another procedure done with Dr Hyman of any sort. It's shocking that instead of admitting fault or doing something to make this situation right he comes out with bold faced lies just as he has done when talking about what was said before my surgery: existing airways collapse, that he discussed grafts, etc etc. All lies. On top of it all, My once perfect credit score is still suffering because of the additional interest I was charged bc of his office's error. read more

The doctor made a procedure which I was worried about extremely simple and painless. Even after the surgery... He offered to pay another Plastic surgeon to do the revision fixing his mistakes and I haven't heard from him since. He is a liar and an unskilled surgeon beware of his lies and his unsteady hand. Currently I still cannot breathe and he continues to ignore me. His surgical coordinator is no longer there he's always switching them out this is the third one since I've known him. The Good Doctor I was referred to Dr. Hyman by my aunt who had also done a breast reduction with him. After examining his work on her and being pleased with the results, I decided to give the Doctor a try. I called the office and spoke to Shirley, his secretary, who was able to accommodate me according to my work schedule. Shirley is so friendly, kind, and has a very welcoming personality. Upon meeting the doctor, he greeted me with a comforting smile that he kept on as he listened to my concerns about my breast and how I wanted them to look. After examining me and confirming that I was a perfect candidate for breast reduction, he explained how he would reduce the size to be proportionate to my frame and more importantly how he would contact my insurance company in a timely matter before he had to go away for a couple of days. Before leaving his office, he asked to take pictures of my bare breasts for insurance purposes. I felt completely at ease with his professionalism and courtesy. As I said my goodbye's to Shirley, she confirmed to me how she will keep me in the loop with the communication between them and my insurance company. Seeing him the second time, he further explained the procedure to me in detail and showed me exactly where he would be doing the incisions, explained the possibility of some light permanent scarring, the soreness and the swelling, and answered any other questions I had with patience and competence. One the day of my surgery, I was so excited! The staff at The Hospital For Special Surgery were so kind and funny. I felt completely at ease and yet excitedly nervous. Once Dr. Hyman marked my breasts for the incision cuts, I was on my way to see my anesthesiologist. Once he injected me, I was out like a light and didn't wake up until 3 hours later when everything was done. Changing back into my clothes, I slowly walked back to the car my aunt was driving me home in and embraced the bumps on the road. The first day was the worst! Fast forward to four days after my surgery, I had my first follow-up appointment. As he removed my surgical bra and gauze and cleaned me up, I was stunned and amazed at the fantastic job he had done to my breasts. They were lifted and full and completely proportionate to my frame as promised. I wanted to cry with joy when I first saw them. He had done such an amazing job! There was one moment where I had freaked out and called the office after hours, only to reach the answering service. After leaving a message and walking away from my phone for a couple of minutes, I came back to 2 missed calls and a text from the doctor! I called him back immediately and told him of my concern. He assured me that everything was okay and that if I still felt uncomfortable to come by the office. Thankfully I didn't have to. I feel so much more comfortable in my own skin and clothing. As a model and actress, I've found it extremely difficult to find a caring surgeon in NYC. I was sooo happy to find Dr. Hyman because he is extremely REAL with his patients and he is honest and helpful as well. He does not misguide you like other surgeons in New York (who jack up prices and try to swindle you into a better "deal" only to find out you're overpaying) -- instead he provided me a competitive price for the breast implants that I wanted. I found Dr. Hyman when he started to do my Botox and then lips, and shortly thereafter I knew I could trust him with my breasts. His staff is also VERY knowledgeable and literally always available... for any random questions I had throughout the pre-surgery stages (even telling me the best places to go to have my blood drawn etc.) and making an appointment with him is always quick and easy thanks to his attentive staff. I am 24 years old and I lost over 150 pounds and had an excessive amount of skin left over on my stomach as well as my thighs. I wrote to Dr. Hyman explaining my situation and my finances and he was VERY accommodating. I thought that I would never be able to achieve the look and body that I dreamed to have but he made that possible. He removed a few pounds of skin only a few weeks ago but I am already looking flat and bought a pair of shorts for the first time in 8 years. Although I am still retaining some fluid and I am still a bit swollen, the difference in my body is remarkable.My stomach incision is looking thin and healing super well; I imagine when it is healed it will be barely visible as Dr. Hyman's suture technique was impeccable. Also, I was quite worried about how my belly button would look post-op as I was aware a new hole would be made in my skin to reattach it but it has to be one of the best belly buttons I've seen after a surgery of this nature! I am slowly on my way to a full recovery. I hope to be able to update this review with before and after pictures shortly!! I recommend Dr. Hyman's practice to any individual looking to perfect their body to their liking as he knows what he is doing. He and his staff even made sure to joke with me at the operating table to calm my nerves before putting me under anesthesia! Shirley, Dr. Hyman's patient coordinator, is very attentive and quickly responds to all emails and questions. I also never leave a post-op checkup without a hug and kind words from her. Julia, the anesthesiologist, is sweet and kind and took great care of me subsequent to the surgery. She even personally rolled me out to the car in a wheelchair! One day I had a pain inquiry late at night and Dr. Hyman personally responded to my email at 10pm with instructions on how to attempt to alleviate this pain. Joshua B Hyman completely destroyed not only my breasts, but my life. He convinced me to have implants that I later found out were much too big for my body. I was left with horrible scarring and infection, and when I went back to Dr.Hyman, he had no empathy and dismissed my issues while blaming me for my experience. This has had a tremendous negative impact on my life, and I hope any potential patients stumble upon this review to warn them about this doctor. He really shouldn't have that title, because he isn't a good doctor, or a descent person. My doctor that I am seeing to correct this mess could not believe the sloppiness and lack of compassion from Joshua Hyman. In his words, "I have never seen a doctor do such bad work and then treat a patient in this manner in my career." Dr. Hyman and his staff are terrific. I'm in my mid-thirties and no matter how hard I tried with regard to working out, eating well, there were "trouble" areas that I couldn't get rid of. I tried for a year on my own before visiting the office. Dr. Hyman explained that especially as women get older, there are places where fat deposits form plain and simple and a hard to target with exercise. I talked with him about the areas where I wanted to see improvement, and his price was very reasonable in my opinion. I had my procedure done about 4 months ago. During my follow up, I was happy to learn that the doctor and I were on the same page about the end results, which we really won't know until the fall. At this point, I'm a patient for life. Dr. Hyman removed fibrous fat deposits in my knees, outer and inner thighs, and once I'm in a place where I'm 100% happy with the result, I'll likely look to get other parts of my body back to a place I feel excited about. I think it's important though, that patients know, I don't leave it all up to this office. I run a few miles twice a week, and do strength training three times a week to help with the toning. Thanks to Dr. Hyman, now I'm toning muscle versus fat, and for that I am extremely grateful and happy I decided to go down this road. I will be three weeks post -op this Friday and I am amazed at my results already. I had liposuction of abdomen, flanks, inner thighs, double chin :-) and arms. Beware!!! of this doctor. Take your body and your money to another doctor. I had liposuction on my stomach, back and sides. I spent 8k to walk away looking EXACTLY the same. such a disappointment on every level. I would advice people to truly look at his photos on his site because if you look careful enough...the before and after in most of them are NOT a great difference. PLEASE do not go to this man because it will be a waste of your time and money.I spoke to him about the results and he kept telling me i was still swollen. After a few months he even realized himself that I did not have good results and offered to go back over the areas for an ADDITIONAL fee!!!
