The absolute WORST experience! Completely unprofessional. My communications thru email, text &…read morephone were not only ignored but we were basically ghosted for 3 straight weeks after a piece we owned sold $600 under the reserve, (4 ITEMS HAD RESERVES) I also had a Tarkay that sold under reserve. I notified them and the sale was cancelled. I emailed 3 days in a row as auction was going on NOT to sell this piece, that there was a reserve. I got zero response from Josh, Terry, his director or Cinthia. Auction closed on 4/19, piece was listed as sold. I spoke with Terry that Tues, she said she was going to talk to Josh. She never got back to me, 3 weeks passed & still no information regarding the whereabouts of our art. I would call/email & text Josh directly, zero response from him. What an immature coward! A professional, an owner would call their client to say we are sorry, we made a mistake & here is how we are going to fix it immediately to calm our concerns. Instead, he hides behind his employees who make excuses for him. Every single time I would call Cassie at reception to have Terry or Josh call me, silence! When Terry finally did contact me, our art had been sold & shipped but they were going to make things right. She would disappear again never giving me the amount of compensation I would be provided. It took me showing up in person to try to talk to someone to get Terry to finally call me. On 6/3 I went to go pick up the check & my remaining art & the check was wrong! Josh was not there, she was not there. I was furious, complete incompetence. I tried to call Josh from the gallery & of course it went to voicemail. They contacted Terry while I was at the gallery, said she would correct the amount & send me breakdown. That was wrong as well & she had to corrected it again. You can't make this up! I had another large piece that had a unique book showing the work of the artist that went with the piece & asked where is the book? Oh, we don't show it being catalogued. I gave them the book & they tried to gaslight me on that as well. I sent the book cover to Terry, she never shared it with any one & the day before pick up after all this time she said she would look for it. It was not there on 6/3. Cassie, the receptionist, asked me to email her the cover since Terry did not share it with her & low & behold she found it! TY CASSIE! So you did pick it up & carelessly again disrespected my property. So IMO this is the last place you want to trust with your valuables. There is no accountability, communication & total disrespect of the client & their property. Sadly, the example set starts at the top with Joshua Kodner whose family name built this business, not him.

Setting the grief aside for a moment, you most likely will have to deal with a house full of stuff. If you are like me and don't live in South Florida, this is a major problem. Going through all of the stuff can take over your life. I wasn't sure where to turn, but I found Bonnie and Melissa from B & F Estate Sales online. After reading some of the reviews on their website, I decided to have them come in and help out. It was a great decision. I liked that they have been in business a long time and aren't just some fly by night company. Bonnie has been doing estate sales for over 30 years. If they aren't run right, from what I've read an estate sale can be a nightmare. I decided to fly into South Florida to "supervise" the sale. Unless there were any major problems, my plan was to totally stay out of their way. I would think that some companies wouldn't want the owner there while the sale was going on, but Bonnie and Melissa made me feel welcome to be involved in the process and I found their business interesting. Prior to me coming into town, Bonnie and Melissa had gone through the house and started tagging items for sale. Bonnie is also a realtor, so I was very comfortable with her letting herself in and out during the week. I made a previous weekend trip to take some special things that I wanted to keep. I strongly recommend doing that first, so you know what is in the house. Plus it makes their job a lot easier if you can tell them - EVERYTHING there is for sale. That said, they did set aside some personal items, that they thought I would want, that I hadn't shipped yet. They aren't going to just sell something without checking with you first. To "enhance" the sale, they brought in a few of their other client's merchandise. My mother wasn't a big collector of jewelry or figurines. Those things bring in customers, so it was a good idea. Each person's stuff was color coded with a sticker, so none of the money got confused. I quickly learned that people will buy anything. Cans of unused food - Sold. An electric mixer from 1957 - sold. Corn Cob holders - sold. Clothes, shoes, old board games, packs of playing cards, eye glasses, bulky costume jewelry, Dixieland Jazz records, coffee tables, piano sheet music, old telephones, towels, old garden tools, unused batteries, paintings off the wall, an old sewing machine and, and, and... Now did I get rich selling all these things? No. Although it was cash in my pocket. For me it was about emptying out a house full of stuff, without it taking months and breaking my back doing it. My mother hated waste, so it also gave me some pleasure knowing that someone else was going to actually use these things. After the two day sale Bonnie and Melissa brought another company in that was responsible for the rest of the clean out of unsold things. Basically they see what's left for them to sell or donate to charity, then weigh that against the amount of labor it will take to move everything and clean the house. They write you a check for x amount and do the rest of the hard work. At the end you have a completely empty and clean house, ready for someone else to move into. After watching Bonnie and Melissa work during the weekend, I can highly recommend them. I would trust them again to do it without me being there for sure. I'm guessing most of their clients aren't there. I could tell they have lots of loyal customers who are familiar with their sales. During the sale there was only one person who was a problem. They came through the house and wanted to haggle over every little dime and started to raise their voice about it . Bonnie and Melissa put their foot down politely but firmly and asked them to purchase the items at the fair price or leave. After all this is someone's home, it's not some 3rd world country flea market. These things were important to someone who has passed away, so Bonnie and Melissa insisted that everyone be respectful. They were also constantly keeping things neat and reorganizing the items during the sale. I met lots of nice people during the sale that seemed to really enjoy talking about some of the items in my mom's home. To get this kind of clientele, Bonnie and Melissa spend time taking photos of your items and post it on their website as well as other estate sale websites. In their line of business it's all about having contacts and promoting the sale correctly. That's the difference between doing your own garage sale and having a professional company come in. B & F Estate Sales was a great choice for me. I'm sure they will be for you too.

I had an auction back in July and here we are 2 months later & they have NOT yet paid me! Understand that these guys collect the money the day of the auction. They sold my valuables including, Lalique, silver & fine jewelry. The money they made on my auction was significant. Whenever I follow up with them, I try contacting their various numbers and find that that either their phones have been disconnected or are not accepting messages. One main line accepts messages however not once has anybody ever called me back. They Have recently moved to a new undisclosed area and the only way to contact them is through email. Scott Grasso the president emailed me once that I will get paid but that has not yet happened and he nor his wife who is onsite at the auction collecting the money will speak with me. The sales representative, Eric Sanudo who I trusted and seemed professional disconnected his cell phone and there's no way to contact them. When you go on to their website you can see that they are still conducting auctions. These poor people have no idea that their not going to get paid. When you sell someone's personal possessions and then keep all the money that's called STEALING!!!!! Warning, stay away from J. Sugarman!

House of Whitley - 50 Million Year Old Fossils Accent Wall

    House of Whitley

House of Whitley is one of the most amazing of all shops or auction houses I've ever come across…read more No wonder it is so well situated as being a part of the Gallery of Amazing Things as what they have is not just of amazement, it's both of eye and mind dazzling amazement. From what I saw of what they had, I hardly know where to begin but let me start with "Green River Fossils." Unearthed in the Green River Formation of Wyoming these fossils are of the Eocene Epoch, hence as they say have spent over 50 million years in the making. To me the fish and fauna fossils are just breathtaking not only by visual reference but from mental comprehension of what being over 50 million year old actually means. Then there are what they term the "Big Eye Binoculars," and what a sight of beauty and amazement they are. Like if you've never seen or looked through a Zeiss lens 15x80 or the like, you have no idea how phenomenally good optics can be. Priced in the thousands, they might be a little much for most wallets but just seeing is more than worth your time. Plus there is so much more. Everything from an over 6 foot high decorative passenger jet turbine to fine art paintings and the Christopher Marley collection of varying moths, butterflies, fish, minerals, gems and other matters of nature. The House of Whitley is a true gem and one that you should let pass you by, especially if you are like me, a collector of the unique.
