When the whole World started to change. We won a Lladro "Around the World" porcelain from Akiba Auction on Liveauctioneers. After the auction Akiba changed the shipping terms & refused to ship the porcelain In-house which increased costs 3X. We cancelled the sale then purchased the piece elsewhere. read more

BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE!!!! If you're thinking about trusting this company with your belongings, DON'T DO IT!!!!! They sold an a dozen of my lithographs from the late 1700 for $50! The inventory list, created by the company owner, was clearly documented as "RESEARCH" to assess the value of the artwork. After the auction was completed, we went to the antique auction house to pick up what did not sell. Thankfully, we brought our copy of the inventory list because they had no idea what items were to be returned to us. The employees were going back & forth searching for different pieces & bringing out 1 by 1. Not wrapped or protected...just loose items. When the owner brought out the portfolio that the sketches were contained in, it was empty. All the lithographs were gone. When I asked where they were, he had no idea. Said he need time to investigate. When he final figured that he sold them by "mistake" he sent me a text message saying he was sorry. He blamed it on one of his workers. That's it! Well, I wanted my artwork back & I NEVER gave him permission to sell it. After weeks of back & forth with him stating the buyer wouldn't respond to his attempts to contact him, I contacted the Dept. of Business & Professional Regulation. This is the entity that regulates auction houses. I sent in pictures of all the pieces he "sold" along with the inventory list showing they were to be RESEARCHED. Their return response was that this was a civil matter & I need to address the issue privately. I contacted an art appraiser. They charge $500 an hour. Evaluating 12 pieces from pictures I took would be extremely costly. I also contacted an art attorney (yes, they exist). They wanted a $6,000 retainer. So, if you've read this far, take pictures of everything you hand over to this company, keep your inventory list & bring it with you to pick-up was doesn't sell, be prepared to wait & be prepared for them to have your belongings everywhere in the disorganized auction house and be prepared for the owner to take ZERO accountability if he "accidentally" sells your research items or other. If anyone knows an attorney that would be willing to help me, I'd really really appreciate it. read more

Akiba is just one of the many small antique stores in Dania but somewhat more in that is actually is a collection of antique stores done in a smallish mall type of arrangement. I've found a lot of good, unique and unusual items here at decent prices and best of all for me at my age, most of what they are selling as antiques are to my delight older than I am. There's nothing more horrid and insulting than to go into an antique store only to most find items labeled as antique that are younger than you are. read more

I currently live in NY, but saw some items in their on line auction that really appealed to me. As usual, the shipping becomes the problem after you win the bid. However, the staff at Akiba were very responsive and accommodating, as I needed the items to arrive before I was going out of town. Everything was packed perfectly and arrived in good order. I had some artwork and a couple designer handbags i decided to bring to the auction house. I had no clue what the stuff was worth but I know I paid a decent amount for it In the past. I arrived and spoke to a young gentleman who took the time to walk me through the auction process and took a look at my items. Purchased a piece of large furniture from across the state, (Naples). Had to speak with Akiba (Monique) several times about coming to pick up the item. She was lovely to speak with. We had tried to rent a van or truck before going but due to hurricane that had decimated our area, there were none to be found within a 100 miles, meaning we had to squish it in our SUV. We drove to pick up the item at an off site location in West Palm Beach. Anthony and Andrew very kindly loaded the item in the car for us. Great experience overall. Jon and Alex were extremely helpful during my move. I wanted a few things to get consigned for auction but was overwhelmed with transporting the 4 large pieces to their auction house. They told me to not worry, we setup an appointment to come to my house in the gables with their moving van and blankets to wrap the pieces. All this was arranged on my schedule which meant a lot. Like so many auction houses in South Florida, they have, at times, resorted to selling fake Russian antiques. I bought Russian lacquered boxes from them at a hefty price and the boxes turned out to be cheap prints pasted onto boxes which I think are not even lacquered, but some cheap imitation. Just be warned when you see Russian stuff that it could be fake and almost worthless. I have my suspicions about other items that keep appearing at Akiba, but without proof I will not say more. Be very, very careful with this auction gallery as they will NOT disclose that certain made-to-look-old objects are counterfeit. read more

BUYERS BEWARE! This establishment has a lot of great and interrsting items BUT you have a difficult time being able to see and view certain stores. The owners are not available and getting access is almost impossible. Also one of the owners (by the name of Francesca) does not honor pricing! They will raise the price on items (previously quoted) and try to cheat you! I then realized I needed a vintage vanity. Marco was kind and gave me a tour of the auction house. They are fair and honest people. It's up to everyone who buys at auction to know want they are buying and its provenance. It's always "buyer beware" worldwide. I have bought numerous items at AKIBA and am thrilled with them all. I looked at them carefully and made a judgement and have not been disappointed. If people see what they believed to be incorrect descriptions than help make it better by speaking to the Auction House and suggesting politely why a change may be necessary. My wife and I were vacationing in Ft. Lauderdale. We found a beautiful necklace at Ellie's in Akiba Antiques. Unbeknownst to us the necklace was damaged. We went back to Akiba's but Ellie was not there. My wife called several times and spoke to Johnathan Akiba, who said he would have Ellie call her back. We waited but received no call. We called back and spoke to Johnathan again and he told us that Ellie would not be in today and he will relay the message and give her my wife's number. Once again we received no call. As far as we are concerned the lack of customer service and honesty is all one has to know about in order to avoid the treatment we received. I would recommend avoiding Akibas Antiques and looking for more reputable firms to deal with. read more
