The absolute WORST experience! Completely unprofessional. My communications thru email, text & phone were not only ignored but we were basically ghosted for 3 straight weeks after a piece we owned sold $600 under the reserve, (4 ITEMS HAD RESERVES) I also had a Tarkay that sold under reserve. I notified them and the sale was cancelled. I emailed 3 days in a row as auction was going on NOT to sell this piece, that there was a reserve. I got zero response from Josh, Terry, his director or Cinthia. Auction closed on 4/19, piece was listed as sold. I spoke with Terry that Tues, she said she was going to talk to Josh. She never got back to me, 3 weeks passed & still no information regarding the whereabouts of our art. I would call/email & text Josh directly, zero response from him. What an immature coward! A professional, an owner would call their client to say we are sorry, we made a mistake & here is how we are going to fix it immediately to calm our concerns. Instead, he hides behind his employees who make excuses for him. Every single time I would call Cassie at reception to have Terry or Josh call me, silence! When Terry finally did contact me, our art had been sold & shipped but they were going to make things right. She would disappear again never giving me the amount of compensation I would be provided. It took me showing up in person to try to talk to someone to get Terry to finally call me. On 6/3 I went to go pick up the check & my remaining art & the check was wrong! Josh was not there, she was not there. I was furious, complete incompetence. I tried to call Josh from the gallery & of course it went to voicemail. They contacted Terry while I was at the gallery, said she would correct the amount & send me breakdown. That was wrong as well & she had to corrected it again. You can't make this up! I had another large piece that had a unique book showing the work of the artist that went with the piece & asked where is the book? Oh, we don't show it being catalogued. I gave them the book & they tried to gaslight me on that as well. I sent the book cover to Terry, she never shared it with any one & the day before pick up after all this time she said she would look for it. It was not there on 6/3. Cassie, the receptionist, asked me to email her the cover since Terry did not share it with her & low & behold she found it! TY CASSIE! So you did pick it up & carelessly again disrespected my property. So IMO this is the last place you want to trust with your valuables. There is no accountability, communication & total disrespect of the client & their property. Sadly, the example set starts at the top with Joshua Kodner whose family name built this business, not him. read more

This narcissistic charlatan (Josua that is) will dupe you into turning over your valuables, knowing full well he cannot sell them for close to what you might expect and knowing that in VERY small print on the bottom of the back of the contract it virtually gives him license to keep your things for 14 days beyond the auction beyond the initial effort to sell them before he puts them out again. Try getting them back if you decide you don't want to have him do that. There is no call, no discussion about trying a second time and no record available to the sell as to how much it really sells for and how much he keeps. There is is NOTHING in the documentation he provides that shows you what he actually got. He swoops into your home and quickly packs up all that you designate and goes beyond to pick things up and ask you if you might want to let them go as well. When his team is done packing, he sails out the door shouting over his shoulder to give him a 5-star rating (seriously) and that he has sent you the link. You can call multiple times, as I did, and will undoubtedly be penalized by him by having him react by pushing items worth hundreds of dollars out the door for (in my case) $250 a piece. One was a golf art triptych painted on three wooden panels from the the 1960's, known artist that we paid $10K, which I advised him of. He put it out for $10K knowing full well no one would pay that for it and in the second round (he refused to acknowledge multiple calls from me asking for it back) he instead spitefully put it out again for ? He paid us just $250. There was as 2' tall Japanese IMari lamp in my family from the 1920's and he did the same thing. He deliberately ignored multiple calls from me asking for it back. There were many items that he treated with the kind of disdain he exhibited with the two mentioned above, but in the interest of keeping this contained, I will limit the mention to two. He never returns calls. No one seems to care about ethics. They virtually steal your possessions for a song. The value discussed is noting more than a bogus conversation to further lure the donor into digging up more things of value to his purpose which is likely not aligned with your own. You will regret using this man and his minions who has coasted on his families' reputation for decades. I'm saddened by what happened to us as a result of trusting Joshua Kodner and hope that in posting this even one person will be better served by going elsewhere read more

This business' low rating makes sense. I called this gallery and their automatic message recommended texting them - which I did. The one and only response I received was a curt "send pictures." I sent pictures and provided details about the items I was interested in selling; I followed up a few days later to inquire if they were interested. I can see that they saw all of my messages on the days they were sent (thanks read receipts), but they still have yet to respond. Clearly professionalism isn't important to them. read more

I purchased two leather cowboy belts from Kodner Galleries through LiveAuctioneers.com for $48. Kodner tried to get me to pay an additional $48 shipping for these small items. When I objected several times, they lowered shipping to $31, still to high in my opinion for these small items. They told me to contact an outside shipper which I did. UPS bid $23 and I sent the bid to Kodner, asking if they could beat it. They agreed to match it and I told them I would go with UPS. I expressed my surprise that they would be so intransigent over a few dollars and be willing to put both UPS employees and their own employees at additional risk of COVID by refusing to ship internally at a fair and competitive price. I explained that I would note the forgoing in a Yelp review (which they ask customers to write when they send the invoice). After I had paid the invoice for the items and received a receipt and paid to have UPS pick up and ship the items, I received an email saying the owner "cancelled" the sale because of my "threats" to report to Yelp the facts as they occurred. Weeks later they have listed the same belts on LiveAuctioneers.com at the Buy It Now price of $100 plus $48 shipping for a grand total of $148 for items that I bought and paid $48 + $23 = $71. This is not only illegal given that I paid for the property and received a receipt but, in my opinion, it is unethical, vindictive and a blatant attempt to charge more than the items are worth and tack on excessive shipping charges. Shame on you, Josh Kodner. read more

I was very disappointed with this company. I had them consignvery nice art work and they told me it was a 45-day turnaround. I was informed that my artwork did sell and that the buyer had 30 days to purchase I think that is not true for any auction you have to pay right away. 45 days later after I called several times they told me my at work did not sell and that they had a second buyer that could buy it immediately. I am sure that that second by was Kodner himself. If they wanted to get the picture for less money that should have told me that the auction artwork sold for less money for would have been better off. No phone call no courtesy didn't sell didn't tell me and I would never do business with these people again. Terrible Clueless. Low prices, high fees, slow pay.

I bought a terrific Reuven Rubin pencil drawing of a man on a donkey. The painting came with written provenance from Rubin's daughter-in-law and the original purchase receipt from 1987. There was also a photo of the original owner with the painting. The frame is an original Rubin frame. Customer service was great and I was given ample time to examine the painting before the auction. read more

Kodner Galleries and their subsidiary (Estate Auction Company). Knowingly sell counterfeit foreign coins on an weekly basis. When confronted with this fact, they attempt to absolve themselves of blame based on their vague description of the items. Selling known counterfeits/copies of real currency and/or antiques is fraud. Disclosure of their reproduction status is mandatory. After 2 weeks of conversations including extremely unprofessional email correspondence they have accepted a return of counterfeit goods. However, they have dragged their feet and offered less than the cost paid for the counterfeit materials. read more

I wish I had read some of these reviews before I made my purchase. I was so excited after "winning" the auction on my product then the challenges came. I couldn't get an invoice and repeatedly ask that someone send something with no luck. I had a nasty phone call from Joy who wanted to know where my funds were. When I asked for an invoice, she told me to look in my spam folder, I was also informed that this organization had been in business for over 100 years however, no invoice. They were not able to take funds over the phone with a credit card so I had to overnight a check. The check cleared the following day but they were not going to release the product for 10 days. The whole experience was a complete mess and although I like what I purchased, it took most of the joy out of it because of all of the headaches. The only bright star in this purchase was.. I have read the negative reviews and I must say, in my many years of dealing with Russ and before that, his dad, I have not had problems. I have always been able to bid and get items that would have cost much more in a retail setting and have appraised at well in excess what I have paid. I even turned my friends on the this auction site, and they, too, are delighted with the quality of the items on which they bid and win. The only reason that I gave 4 out of 5 stars is that their shipping is quite expensive...that being said, the packing by Sean is exceptional and we have never had breakage. I, for one, will be back month after month!! read more

Despite being here for decades, these auctions seem to be a well kept secret. I've been at least a dozen times, and I have found amazing deals. They also have free pizza, which isn't a bad thing! The auctions move quickly here, and it's well organized. My only fear in posting this review is that more people will come and I won't get such great auction buys! read more

The buyer's premium was reasonable, the billing was prompt and accurate and the cost to ship and insure the item was reasonable. Kodner gallerie s INC WARNING!!!!! Be aware of these people! they sold me a FAKE fiberglass blackamoor claiming it was carved wood. Then they disputed the charge back and held my money captive for almost 3 months. I had to re disputed it 2 times. After I proved it fake with zillions of photos to them and my credit card company it was sent back to them, they acknowledged it was fake, they claim "we never said it was an antique " WOW really? you did however claim it was carved wood even thought you sold it at an antique type auction house.They could have returned the money I so trustingly gave them AFTER they received the returned item, but chose to make me wait for another 5 weeks. After repeated phone calls to get back my money you lied to get, SHAME on you!. BEWARE of their far away photos and sketchy wording as they try to deceive, then try to avoid you for months and months. Also they use liveauctioneers.com who do NOT help you or have a rating system to weed out bad seller with feedback or give you any recourse but an email to bad sellers stating discontent without any recourse, which is why they probably use this host only site. No business sense at all.... I spent hours looking at their most recent auction items on line. I spent hours via email with them getting info on the condition, extra photos, etc. That went find. I then faxed an absentee bid 3 times before it went through, gave them credit card info, etc. Total of less than $500 for two paintings IF I were to get them and they it took my max bids to do so. If successful, I would then have a 20+% commission and the shipping costs, for two ok paintings, but the artist doesn't get much $ when sold. After all this, I get the following email: I see that this is your first time bidding with us. In order for me to register you I will need a photocopy of your ID and photocopy of your credit card so I can verify your identity. Please get those 2 documents to me as soon as you can. You can email it or you can go ahead and fax it. I don't like sending credit card info, etc. to begin with, but did so on the form. I certainly don't like sending even more info such as a license and more. I would also have to to scan, then attach to an email, etc. More time out of my day. I sent an email telling them I would rather use Skinners, Christies or other auction houses where I am on record if they wanted to check with them. I also can buy via my Liveauctioneers or Bidsquare accounts, but they charge a commission on top of an already high commission - how did all these commissions come to be btw? Used to buy at auction and it didn't cost anything to buy. Now I have to pass on soooo many items because of the cost of commissions and shipping many times also. So essentially complained in another email and told them I was insulted that they would fret over a small amount. None of the information on the Absentee Form should have raised any red flags, and they also could have called the credit card company to just ask about the name on the card, the city and state - and they would also have seen a company name on the card, which was on the Absentee Bid Form. They should be more concerned if someone were to place a bid of say $50,000 and they hadn't bid before - or how about those overseas bids?
