Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara - Outside front of building

This is my first time ever visiting a Sikh Gurdwara, my wife and I were pretty lost but the place…read moreis quite straightforward. Upon arriving we removed our shoes at the shoe check, then washed our hands. Also, you need a head covering, they have them available in front of the temple as well. Also important to know is not to bring any alcohol, tobacco, or any other drugs. Upon entering there are hallways to the left and right with small empty rooms probably used for various things. Further forward there are two larger rooms. To the left is the main room with the altar and the holy book, The Guru Granth Sahib. There are people sitting there singing and meditating. Musicians are playing music in front to the left of the altar. The second large room to the right of the front entrance is the Langar, this is a very cool fact about Sikhism, every Gurdwata is also a soup kitchen. This is a very long standing tradition where emperors sit and eat alongside with peasants. Egalitarianism is a major tenant of this faith. It's much like a buffet, you get in line and volunteer servers fill your plate as you make your way along the serving tables. The food is vegetarian to accommodate as many people as possible. If you ever want to try real Punjabi food this is the place to do it. I also brought some cash with me to make a donation, while it was not necessary I really wanted to help support this place. I saw someone who had cash in his hand so I followed him and did what he did the best that I could. I followed him back into the main meditation room, placed the cash in front of the altar, did a bow and exited left. Of the five major religions in the world, this one is pretty cool. I have gone to school with growing up, and worked alongside many Sikhs in my life, while I'm sure every cultural group has it's share of baddies, I have never personally met one in my lifetime.

Absolutely awful experience attended a wedding of a family friend everything was going smoothly til…read morethe main priest with the yellow slashes came up to stand and started talking about some "that's why having babies is a miracle" completely out of topic, half way through he started speaking in English despite the majority of the attendees only knowing Spanish and he started his speech with Spanish then randomly switched back to Spanish, h didn't even follow the proper order and his wishes to the bride and groom was more of a personal rant about his life experience and not something that should be shared with the bride and groom, who are looking to be married with permission from Jesus and God and are doing a proper ceremony to do so! Awful experience we a wedding attendant. Overall the rest of the service was GREAT but I swear the priest needs to get to the point and not involve his personal life into a new starting and bloom family life and complex things about the bride and grooms future! Under a blessing of god and Jesus under the name of the church. And when I left the church I was hit with a very aggressive "Pray to end abortion" and "Ask me about reversal abortion pills" Signs KEEP POLITICS OUT OF THE CHRUCH SO WE CHRUCH PEOPLE CAN BE IN PEACE WITHOUT POLITICAL STUFF ALL OVER OUR FACES.

This is why we're here to start the tradition to give one next. Norma was pleasantly sweet, has so much grace in helping us find what we needed. Gave great advice & motivated us to think differently on an outlook towards life, family, caring for our elderly. She is super kind & resourceful. Thank you for helping us in ordering our next bible to gift, & reminding us how important it is to be close to God.
