Two years ago I broke the left side ankle but it healed and there was some confusion over all that with the doctors, x-rays etc etc...but the doctors concluded it is "just sprained". I was a tad frustrated when I got here but these amazing folks have been a shining light! First, they had a parking lot with room in it! I live super close by and as a long time resident I just assumed there were no businesses in downtown Beaverton with their own parking. I drove right on past their lot and parked in front of Ava so thankful I managed to grab a space. I was shaking my head when I walked past their lot to go inside. They have made everything so easy, from making my first appointment on. The crazy part was - I was handed the referral sheet from my doctor... I needed to go to a different medical office to get a prescription and another brace which took probably an hour. I get in the car, leaving that location... and get a call from them to schedule my first appointment! I had to call her back since I needed to get all the info which was at my house. Everyone is quick to interact and engage which is just so nice. We are not there for a grand time so kindness helps. And my therapist has been so great listening to me and also genuinely poking and prodding around and constantly reminding me not to push it. I am THAT person with an insane pain tolerance so I will harm myself without even realizing it so I appreciate the reminders.

I had a knee replacement over a year ago and experienced previously poor results in obtaining both…read morea desirable range of motion (ROM) and regaining lost strength in the knee. Previous PT at another provider was insufficient to resolve these problems and I felt like the PT provider tried to persuade me to live with these extreme limitations. PT has been progressing well at Westside PT and I'm particularly pleased with the results that I've seen from their Biodex Isokinetic Dynamometer. In an extremely well controlled and measurable structure, I have slowly begun to increase both my strength and ROM, both of which I have been unpleased with from my previous progress. I especially like that I have agency to control how much I push myself instead of relying on the PT provider to arbitrary set those limits. You may want to consider this as an option for knee replacement patients especially if you are experiencing an insufficient return of ROM and strength. It is also highly recommended, by myself, for those that appreciate seeing a well organized, measurable structure to PT. It is still early days and I intend to continue PT for many more weeks but the progress has been both measurable and transformative. I refuse to believe that I must live with the inadequate results of my previous PT failure and this place is helping me to achieve what I know is possible.

They seemed to have a great approach…read moreto physical therapy, offering solutions for mobility and injury prevention in addition to more traditional strengthening protocols. During my first appointment, I did a consultation with Jessica. We spoke about my history with knee pain from skiing, and then moved into an assessment on the table. Without any kind of prep, she initiated muscle scraping on my entire leg, which was one of the most painful things I've had to endure. She said nothing to the effect of "we're about to do some muscle scraping, are you familiar with this?" or "this may be painful" or "it can cause pretty serious bruising and tenderness." She just got the tools and went right in. It was excruciating, and I found the total lack of preparation unprofessional and alarming. I was left with huge bruises up and down my leg for days; this was 2 days before a birthday trip where I'd be in a bathing suit, during which I had a massage I needed to cancel due to the tenderness of the massive bruises. Had I been prompted about the severity of this procedure, I likely would have declined or opted for a less intense massage approach (which was what I had explicitly asked for in my consultation and the beginning part of my assessment with Jessica, as massage therapy has helped me a great deal before). My first visit ended with some ultrasound therapy, which was more pleasant. Despite the intensity of the scraping, I was at least interested in the fact that this PT (the fourth clinic I've been to in 2 years) was performing more manual therapy than the others. I figured that I would give it a shot. At my second visit, we did more muscle scraping, and no ultra sound therapy. I was quickly passed off to another therapist to do some hip strengthening exercises, and halfway through she had to ask me which side my injury was on. She didn't seem super prepared to help me, and then brought me to the front desk to wrap up my appointment with 20 minutes still left in the hour. That appointment cost me $168, as my insurance does not cover PT until after I've hit my deductible, so I was feeling a bit shortchanged. I asked if I could be charged for fewer PT units due to the shorter appointment, and the therapist instead took me back to do some stretching. I had arrived to my second appt with some hip pain, and the therapist showed me a stretch that aggravated that pain. Upon telling her that I was in pain, and not in a tight muscle kind of way, she said "yeah, you'll feel that" and dismissed it. I left that appointment in more pain than when I arrived. I am super disappointed in the care I received here.
