We have been eating at Joy Food for a few years now. Food is very good and very affordable. Our go to in the Gahanna area.

Food tasted awful like it was fried in old oil. Had beef and broccoli, orange chicken and sesame chicken which all had the same bad aftertaste. Chicken egg rolls were dry and freezer burnt. Fried rice was just rice with soy sauce. Threw the food out and will avoid in the future. read more

I was at littleroot next door and decided to stop by here for lunch and it was very good. The chicken was still had a good crunch so you know they are making it to order back there. The fries rice was very tasty and the Rangoon was very good. I am a sucker for a good crab Rangoon. The lady at the counter was very nice and talked to me for a little bit, everyone who came in seemed to know her and she knew them. She even knew what people were gonna order as soon as they walked in the door. It was truly an amazing display of customer service. There seemed to be plenty of people getting food there so the community seems to be in full support of Joy Food. The seating area is a bit small but it was very clean and I didn't feel cramped or crowded. The prices on here were higher than it was in real life. I spent less than $10 on food. I was very pleased with my first stop to Joy Food and I will be coming back again. I would highly recommend a stop by if you have the chance! read more

Out of my way, but I've been meaning to come here for a while. It's a pretty standard small strip mall, Chinese place, but their service was excellent and the food was pretty darn good. They brought my plate to the table. I'm sure they don't get mini dining customers anymore, and it's not like they were busy, but still. Super friendly and helpful the whole time. I got my usual comparison, order of Mongolian beef and crab Rangoon. Now, people have commented on here that the crab Rangoon is excellent, and stuffed with crab. Mine was not. There was no crab, there was only cheese, and there wasn't very much of it. But, it was still crispy and a little sweet and tasty. The Mongolian beef was very good. Big chunks of tender beef in a flavorful, not too salty sauce. Nicely cooked onions and green onions. Fried rice for me, nothing, particularly special and nothing in it but still a nice counterpoint to the meat. I liked it. If I was nearby I'd come more often. It's handy right off the highway, and fairly near the high school. read more

I was coming from a doctor appointment around lunch time, saw this small Chinese restaurant in a strip center, and thought let's give it a try. I'm very glad that I did! This is some of the freshest Chinese food I have ever had -- I ordered the Lemongrass which was loaded with fresh vegetables, non-coated chicken, with a wonderful sauce. I ate lunch in their small but very beat and clean dining area, watching the customers coming and going as a result of the robust take-out customers, many of whom are regulars given the welcome from the woman behind the counter. This woman knows her loyal customers and what they normally order -- great sign of repeat customers who know and enjoy great food and service. I will be back! SEVEN WORDS: MEDIOCRE DINING AREA / PHENOMENAL QUALITY CHINESE STIR-FRY. . We Got Super Lucky with this Treasure! We were up at Blendon Woods and headed home to Whitehall when we Yelped "Chinese" in Gahanna Area - Joy Food came up second, and with a Rating of 3.8, it was kind of a grab bag whether this place was going to be average, Good, or Surprisingly Bland. . Well, it was NONE of the Above. On our first trip, my wife ordered Pork Lo Mein and I ordered Wor Sue Gai - which both can be adventures in themselves. The food came out within 240 Seconds (I'm emphasizing that speed by NOT SAYING 4-5 Minutes...THEY WERE LIGHTNING FAST! . My Wor Sue Gai wasn't just a creamy chicken sauce with pressed chicken and Bambo Shoots - no, my meal included small corn, water chestnuts, and bits of spinach. It was as fresh as could be, and easily one of the two best Chinese meals I've eaten in my life - at least in America. . My wife, a Filipino, always has a hankering for "Pancit" - the Pinoy version of Lo Mein, so she ALWAYS orders Lo Mein - which is the closest facsimilie of the Filipino version. She kept raving about how clean the Lo Mein Noodles were - and the Pork tasted like it had been marinated in a traditional Vinegar-Soy Marinade overnight. It ws remarkably tender, probably also because of the exquisit flash frying. . We returned just last night for a second visit - I ordered a Spicy Shrimp Entree - and the shrimp was a HUGE Surprise: The Shrimp were pre cleaned and deveined, and their size was on-par with a 14-Count Bag - as sizeable as any Shrimp Cocktail in your average restaurant. Additionally, there was a smattering of Green Peppers and Onions, so the dish tasted like a Shrimp Hong Sue Gai - Fresh and Yummy. . Last night, we also picked up Egg Rolls - and these were, if I were to find one flaw, the flaw. What I mean is, they use shredded chicken as their filler meat - and it's just...off-putting compared to the normal Pork Egg Rolls that are the norm. Still, the Spring Rolls were probably hand-crafted, and the Spring Roll Wrappers were as clean as any flash-fried Spring Rolls in a Tempura Bar. . Our meals averaged around $34 for two entrees, two Egg Rolls, and Two Sodas. That's almost a steal, not even taking into account the SUPER HIGH Quality of every dish we ate. I cannot recommend Joy Food enough - and we will be returning soon to try something new - probably a flight of Dim Sum-type eats. We both cannot wait! read more

Had Gen Tso lunch portion. Other than it could have stood to have maybe Two more pieces, it was perfect. Sweet hot and tender chunks, not stringy over battered tough rooster meat Also had sufficient amount of sauce to accompany the rice which is as important as the amount of chicken. Fast and tasty Chinese in Gahanna. The lady who took my order/ helped to make the food was very friendly and kind. I had an egg roll another time from here (not sure what kind because someone else ordered it for me) and it had some kind of meat in it which I don't normally have in an egg roll, but it made it stand out from others I've tried and it was good. I ordered pork lo mein. I didn't even need any soy sauce which is a testament to how flavorful the noodles were because I generally need soy sauce on lo mein because of the lack of flavor. Glad to add this to my Gahanna, Chinese go-to spots. Another reviewer mentioned they have the best crab Rangoon ever, and I love crab rangoon so that'll be next on my list to try! read more

I was craving General Tso's chicken and decided to take a chance with Joy Food. The combo comes with soup or a spring roll. I went with the roll, but will definitely pass on that next time. It was flavorless. The entree was actually really good though! All white meat chicken, delicious sauce that was really well balanced and thick. I added a side of steamed veggies, and glad I did, because the General Tso's didn't include any. Will definitely order it again! read more

It's all in the details. Simple order general tso chicken and a large order of pork friend rice. The details are I ordered my general tso with no veggies cuz they take up room in the container. First and foremost, we enjoy our food prepared quickly, don't we? Well, wait no longer. Step right up. Order your feast and receive it pronto. There's no fooling around with this Oriental fare. Secondly and just as important as the previous point, we like our food tasty, right? Well, once again, you won't be disappointed. I've only had a couple of meals here, but the portions are more than generous, very fresh and cooked to order. For example, I prefer my "Chicken & Broccoli" without the brown sauce included, i.e. "on the side". "No problem, Mr. Roy!" They never bat an eye. I went here for lunch. I have no complaints at all! Fast, fresh and hot! I purchased the sesame chicken. I am glad they do not over bread their chicken like many of Chinese spots do! Crab Rangoon was hot and actually filled up nicely. I have been a few places that were it's barely stuffed and they are over fried! I would come back here for sure. Good food...fast! Close to my office, I eat here almost every day. I have tried almost everything on their menu. Never a bad meal after 6+ years...although I've liked some better than others... I have eaten here many many times! Their food is always fresh. The chicken & broccoli has a great flavor. Their eggs rolls are the best I think I have ever had. When I was pregnant with my 2nd son, I craved them and ate them every day. The young lady at the front counter has always been very nice. I'll have to deduct a star since I've only tried this establishment twice & have had one negative thing happen both times. Today I decided to pick up my favorite hot & sour soup on my way home from work.. I also ordered Hunan chicken this time. To my surprise when I came home I found they gave me beef instead of chicken- at least I assume it was beef because it was definitely not chicken. Soup was perfect again but the protein switch turned me off. The entrees seem to be hit or miss since this one was the wrong item & lacking flavor overall. Our favorite Chinese carryout. A very friendly owner who always has your well prepared and fairly priced food ready in a maximum of 20 minutes. I have just discovered the almond chicken that is loaded with almonds and pea pods. Delicious other favorites include moo goo gai pan sweet and sour chicken.
