Used to really love it, however tonight I ordered my favorite soup- seafood corn soup and a side of lo mein since I needed soft foods after dental work.Lo mein was very plentiful and well cooked. The soup made me sad as it didn't have any corn and hardly any seafood! Had plenty or yummy broth and was loaded with egg, but sorely lacking in the soups namesake- seafood corn! read more

Me and my husband come here whenever we get the chance. (I feel badly that we don't go more often!) The service is always excellent. The owner is super friendly. Food comes out in a timely manner. Everything is nice and hot. Tables are clean. The ambience is cozy! My husband almost always orders the Hot 'n Sour soup. He says it's pretty much the best he's ever had! (My favorite is the Wonton soup). We usually go in for lunch, but the dinner service is just as good. They don't skimp on the food in any way. I almost always have leftovers to take home. Jade Bowl House is a popular Chinese place in Gahanna. It does most of it's business from carry out. Take a look inside and you'll know why. It looks like it's been there forever. The food could also use some updating. I had the homestyle bean curd. It's about $5 for the lunch portion. This is for sure one of the cheapest Chinese places in central Ohio. It's a good value even though the food isn't among the best. The food tastes like too much of MSG. It's recommended to not get any added sodium to it. The menu on the wall looks like it's been there as long as the restaurant. It has most of the current menu items listed. There's even some they don't have any more. Instead of removing them, they just put a note next to them saying they don't have it. The service is pretty fast so you can only wait a few minutes. Lunch specials are a great deal, and in my opinion the perfect amount of food. It was a little difficult for me to navigate their website to find a menu, but luckily someone posted a picture on yelp. I ordered the dragon and Phoenix. I had no idea what to expect since there weren't any descriptions on the lunch specials menu. I'll tell you what it is- shrimp, white meat chicken, carrot, pea pods, mushrooms, baby corn, bamboo shoot, and water chestnuts. All of this is tossed in what I can best describe as a light chicken and seafood gravy. It was very good, although it needed some spice. After adding sriracha it was excellent. The hot and sour soup I ordered with it had potential, but it tasted like they used a cooking wine and didn't burn off all of the alcohol. All in all- great quality and very nice flavor. This place is a typical Americanized Chinese restaurant. All those Kung pao, hunan, Szechuan etc available here. No authenticity and yet quick Chinese takeaway when in that mood. Great locally owned restaurant. We decided to dine in since we were meeting friends in the area. Nice colorful interior. Only a couple other tables for Fri night dinner. Most business was take out. We had the dumplings and crab Rangoon for appetizers. My daughter loved the dumplings. The Rangoon had a thicker shell then most but the filling was flavorful. We got the sesame chicken, general tsos, dragon and phoenix and orange shrimp. All were enough for two meals. Plenty of sauce. They surprised us with a plate of Chinese donuts at the end. Buy far the biggest portion for your buck. I had my very first chinese food here. War Sue Gai, if you can call it chinese food. It was more like early chicken fingers with gravy. Back then it was Bo Ding's. 24 years ago, this nice famsmeily bought it and made it their own. True dedication proven by traveling this week to China for the first time in 34 years to see family. The food is OK not stellar. The rice is true fried and not colored. The portions must be what keeps the regulars coming back. This place could easily move up to the next level if they made some minor improvements. Cut back on the sauce and msg. Improve the decor. The location is great for Gahanna, and easy off 670 for others. The staff/owners are friendly and pleasant. I'm totaling the upgrades in my head, and thinking, that might be more upfront cost. It's tough for me to not see it as it once was. The table linens, plating. I even told the owner how all the meals came out on a pedestal with the metal dome lid unveiling. Guess it was impressionable to a kid. I would never avoid here, but I do have a taste for some close by alternatives. Give it a try. Sample more of the menu than we did. My chicken and egg roll tasted like it had been made hours before and only reheated when the order was placed. My wife ordered some tofu meal with rice and when she opened the box it looked like tofu soup in a box. That went straight in to the garbage disposal. The only thing that was good was the rice and the cookie. Not sure what all the hype is about this place, but highly doubt we will be making another stop here. read more

The Rangoon was good- plenty, good-sized, more crab than most. The beef... was okay. The meat itself seemed sub-par and a little gristly. It was swimming in sauce, way too much. Then she was upset because I wouldn't sit down while I waited for it. Then got nasty when I asked her for extra duck sauce and sweet and sour sauce. I even offered to pay extra. Jade Bowl House is a great family owned chinese restaurant that using high quality ingredients in their dishes. The food is always hot and fresh. My favorite appetizer is their fried dumplings, they are the best. My favorite dish is their garlic chicken. I love their dishes because whether it is a lunch or dinner portion, you always get a lot of food (enough for leftovers :) ) for the price you pay. It is also very saucy. I finally found a decent Chinese place for carry out that's close to me. I've been so disappointed with the options in the Gahanna area. Certainly not the best Chinese food I've had but a nice little carryout (or dine in) spot. Everything we ordered was good but I was most impressed with the general tso's. It was made with good quality breast meat. There was virtually no doughy filler and no chicken bits. Each piece was mostly one chunk of white meat. The flavor was really good. My only complaint is that the sauce was a little too gelatinous and it could've used more crunch, but I give it a pass because it was carryout and the quality and flavor was good. read more

The interior was a dump, it smelled old and dirty, the bench seating was the WORST seating I've ever experienced. The carpet was tattered and torn and shredded and filthy. The benches fabric torn and ZERO support. It felt like sitting on a cheap and flimsy cardboard box. The bathroom was ATROCIOUS and the food was the WORST food I've ever tasted. My co-workers go to Jade Bowl at least once a week and I typically try to eat lighter fare during the week but on "faturdays" I like to go all out and let myself have some Chinese food and whatever I feel like. Little did I know that my co-workers had great taste in Chinese food! I have been here twice now and I cannot say enough about it. Sure the decor is a little dated and all that but this is the only place I know of in town where you can get high quality food at a great price. Other Chinese places give you jointy chicken and sub-par pork,etc but here the chicken is top notch and all white meat and it makes a huge difference in the enjoyment of your meal. Whenever the Mrs. and I are feeling like Chinese food, we have to come here because it is the best of the best. I highly recommend the Empress Chicken but the General Tso's is extremely tasty as well. Eggrolls are average. Crab Rangoon is wonderful. Try it, you can't go wrong! read more

Tried the Jade for the first time tonight. We will be back !! From the outside, it looks like it might be carry out but its got lots of seating . Typical Chinese decor. We had the Two Pleasures , I think, it was a combo of shrimp and scallops and vegetables. The medium hot pepper sauce was very tasty, kind of like Gen Tso's sauce. We also had Mala string beans. The breading was falling off, the chicken was dry, the sauce congealed, my request for 'extra, extra spicy' was not followed and the egg roll was worse than it's usual "decent" status. The hubby noted the daughters were running things tonight and hadn't cleared several tables and were lazily walking about when bringing the food. When mama is there, we have good meals. But if I'm craving Chinese I don't want to have to call beforehand and ask if mom's on staff. Disappointing, they're a nice family with good food most of the time.
