*** 5,400th review *** My partner and I had a wonderful weekday lunch at JP's. We were some of the only people in the restaurant! We loved the water view, and they did a nice job warming up the restaurant despite the cold day. The lunch specials are a good deal, and you will definitely go home with leftovers. They certainly knock seafood out of the park, but I also had some delightful baby back ribs. Yes, the prices are higher than you might expect elsewhere, but I'm happy to pay the premium for the quality and exquisite, unique time.

After lucking out on a rainy Father's Day fishing trip, we decided to get a consolation seafood meal. JP's photos look good so we went for it. We were the first customers through the door at 11am. Service was very friendly and we were seated with a nice view of the water. Being up at 4am we were starving so we went with the broiled combo for two. This came with lobster tails, fish, scallop, shrimp and baked clams. The clams were amazing. The set ran for 165$. It was a lot more food than anticipated. Food was great and the beer was cold, we would definitely return to try the other a la carte items.

    Flounder Stuffed with Crabmeat Stuffing

I arrived at JP's around 3PM on a Thursday, and it felt like I had the whole restaurant to myself--a peaceful pocket of old-school charm. My waitress Maureen greeted me right away with a bright smile and genuine warmth. She was not only friendly but very knowledgeable about the menu. I told her I wasn't in the mood for anything fried, and without hesitation, she recommended the flounder stuffed with fresh crab meat. She mentioned the stuffing was made in-house--and that sold me. I went with her suggestion, and let me tell you--I'm so glad I did. The dish arrived hot, fresh, and bursting with flavor. It took me nearly an hour to savor every bite, and when I finally finished, my plate was clean. Easily one of the best seafood dishes I've had in a long time. JP's is a true classic. You can feel the history in the décor--it's not your average restaurant. While you dine, you're treated to a soundtrack of timeless hits from the '60s and '70s, paired with a lovely view. The whole vibe is nostalgic, cozy, and unpretentious. Now yes--it's priced higher than most, but hear me clearly: you're paying for quality. This is flavor done right, not rushed. And honestly? Quality over quantity any day. And don't forget--tip your waitress. Folks like Maureen are what make places like JP's unforgettable.

Always a good time at JPs. A great quiet spot off the beaten path on City Island. It's been a favorite for many years - the food is consistently tasty. To start that warm garlic bread is yummy - today we shared the seasoned broiled whole lobster and fried Shrimp combo - paired with yellow rice- stuffed baked potato- Caesar & Italian salads - hot green teas - all was delicious! Service was terrific

I've been to this restaurant a few years back but wanted to check it out again on a Friday night. We were welcomed by the owner who was very attentive and nice. Our waitress came to us very quickly and took our drink order. The menu has a lot of options so you may need to time to order but the food was worth every penny. I just ate the rest today.. large portion and let me tell you my drink ?!!! Was amazing baby!! I felt a little buz buz! Definitely worth the $20. I had a blue margarita and my company had a Long Island! I enjoyed it and I just want to add.. Check out a place for yourself! I've been here twice and I don't have any complaints.

Had the pleasure of visiting this place again for my birthday today. Very very great food. I must say the food was great. I tried something new today which was the fried scallops and the fried lobster tail and the fried shrimp which came with yellow rice and a salad. My partner had flounder with linguine with red sauce. The food was wonderful. The waitress was great too. The lady name is Maddie. Mr. John the owner treated us very well and took great care of us. The ambiance is always amazing. Very nice decor and wonderful music. I love to come here for the king crab legs. Those are always wonderful also. I just like the food here...I look forward to visiting JP's again. Happy eating. Last but not least the red sangria is the bomb dot com.

This has been my #1 spot on City Island since I was a kid. J, the owner, is always hospitable, and the food is fantastic. Whenever I'm on City Island, I always come here. You won't find another spot with fresh and delicious food on the island like JPs.

Okay of all the years I've done City Island I have somehow missed this Gem which was on point the staff and owner John were super attentive (in part due to my friend being a regular). The portions were more than enuff and the cocktails were nice and strong. And sadly due to great convo a couple of drinks in didn't gets pics of my seafood platter shared with my girl pal. Sonny's Broiled Combo For 2 Shrimps, flounder, scallops, baked clams, and 2 large lobster tails served with a potato (for me) and rice (for my girl) 2 salads and peas (which the menu as a whole could do without). I will definitely be going back and get pics of my food . Sidenote: Even on a rainy day the views were sweet.

Our waiter, Antonio, was an absolute delight and took great care of us! Fair warning: this place gets PACKED, so be prepared for a wait. One thing I really appreciated, though, was that as soon as our food was ready, they brought it out. Everything arrived HOT and fresh. They start you off with antipasto and garlic bread, and both were SO good. But consider yourself warned pace yourself. We made the rookie mistake of going in a little too hard and were already getting full before our entrées arrived. I mean... you can't go to the Lobster House and not get lobster. I ordered the $49.95 Lobster Clam Bake Special, which came with Maine lobster, mussels, baked clams, corn, clam chowder and dessert. Everything tasted fresh, the portions were generous, and for everything included, I thought it was a great value. My boyfriend ordered the grilled Norwegian salmon, and honestly, his was REALLY good too. Now, if you love garlic like I do, GET THE NOODLES. The linguine in that garlicky olive oil sauce was one of my favorite things on the table. My only miss was the clam chowder. Mine had a lot of potatoes and barely any clams, so I would've liked a much better clam-to-potato ratio. The ice cream cake roll that came with my special, was rich and decadent. Definitely a good way to end the meal. Overall, fresh seafood, generous portions, hot food, great value and wonderful service from Antonio. We will absolutely be back!

Whenever I'm in City Island, this cafeteria style restaurant is one of my favorite places to grab some seafood with a beautiful view of the blue waters on a sunny day. My favorite items were the freshly shucked cherrystone and littleneck clams (dozen for $15), jumbo shrimp cocktail (6 for $14), and the fried soft shell crab (5-6 small ones w/out the head). These have always been my go to items here, and remain the best Johnny's Reef has to offer. Their fried scallops (about 18 pieces for $25) are tender, but I do wish the batter was crispier. I did not enjoy the doughy fried oysters (about 15 pieces for $28) or the dry fried whiting (huge piece w/ bone for $18). Btw, neither the Manhattan or New England clam chowder ($7 each) had any clam flavor. If I stick to what I like here and order simply those items, then it would be a very satisfying meal for a reasonable price. When I want a casual seafood meal on City Island, this is still my top choice.

The chef comes from the world of high-end NYC dining, and you can feel that experience in every detail of the food. There's a level of creativity, precision, and thoughtfulness here that honestly feels Michelin-worthy. This makes sense, because the restaurant has earned that recognition. Beyond the food, Archie's also has one of the best Scotch and whiskey (bourbon and rye included) selections anywhere in the area. It feels curated by people who genuinely care about food and drink, not just running another restaurant. We eat there often, especially for brunch, which is spectacular and consistently better than it has any right to be for a neighborhood spot on City Island. The best example of the attention to detail was the chopped cheese sandwich special. When it arrived, my first thought was: "How is anyone supposed to eat this giant thing?" But then you take a bite and realize the bread was custom made specifically for the sandwich. Somehow it completely melts in your mouth along with the meat and cheese, making this enormous sandwich unexpectedly delicate and perfectly balanced. It's the kind of detail most restaurants would never even think about. Archie's is a true hidden gem and proof that truly exceptional food can exist in places you wouldn't expect.

Sea Shore doesn't serve Tomato Soup, so why is it in my bowl? I had two spoonfuls and asked for it to go. Mind you, I enjoy a good bowl of tomato soup, but I was looking forward to Lobster Bisque. After some thought, I threw the soup away. It wasn't worth my efforts to redeem. As for the rest of our orders, the consensus was the same, food lacking seasoning. Just a heavy dousing of flavorless Paprika for show. Your ordered meal should be prepared properly, especially at these exorbitant prices. The bill for 5.5 of us was just shy of $700.00, and 1.5 of us didn't have an alcoholic beverage. I'm fully aware of CI's prices, but generally we'll receive a more than decent meal to match. Poor service, mixed up orders, filet of sole sitting in a pool of water. I'm done! If the choice is Sea Shore for next year's first week of July birthday celebration, l will not be attending.
