There are few Anime/Japanese Stationary stores on the island and JQ is one of them. It's one of my go-to spots when I'm in town to buy collectibles or gifts for friends who love anime. Located inside a small plaza near Ala Moana (Piikoi st.) They share a private parking area with Cho Dangs Honolulu and Nijiya Market. They have a wide variety of items that changes constantly and something new available at the shop. Once you set your eyes on something rare, I recommend buying it instead of waiting because I guarantee you it will not be there the next time you visit. I also advise that the store can get really expensive because these are mostly imported goods from Japan. So spend wisely! Sales and discounts are also provided, but on rare occasions. The employees are also very helpful and nice. They will support your purchase just not your wallet (lol). read more

Kawaii and cuteness overload... JQ Store Hawaii found it's new home here in the International Marketplace from the former Ala Moana Plaza and aren't we all thrilled that they did. Filled with all things Japanese it's not limited to the plushies and stationaries we all grown to love and miss as many Japanese stops have slowly disappeared JQ has a great variety to please all levels of anime lovers. Located on the second level right above the Kuhio Avenue Food Hall the first thing I saw as soon as I walked in was some discounted holiday items which is a great time to stock up and find unique decor that area so cute and fun. They do have a huge stock of plushies so fluffy and cute all covered in plastic so that you have no worries of cleanliness along with mystery boxes, huge choices of pens and model kits which are items that can be pricey but are hard to find items even in Japan. A great place with staff that are always willing to help you find items that they may help you to find or just a question, here at JQ Store its a fun trip without the long travel plans. I work in the international market place, so whenever I get to work a little early for my shift, I stop in at JQ Store. I looove their selection of pens and washi tape! That's usually what I go in for! And, they've got Japanese highlighters with glitter! Those are my new faves. I like that the individual pens are available in different sized tips, and sooooo many colors to cchoose from! They're also pretty reasonably priced for great quality, individual pens. The people that work in the store are friendly and helpful. I love that this store is there, and will keep coming in for all my pens and washi tape. :) read more

JQ Hawaii has variety of selections of toys, stationary and collectibles. The staff is very approachable and friendly, offering excellent customer service. Their prices are very reasonable for authentic items from Japan. Note that sales are final. It's located in the second floor of the international Marketplace right across from Mitsuwa. Staff stalk people as though they are guilty...eyes on ya like Big Brother. They got a lot of nice anime stuff and imported from Japan. But way too much for what I'd pay. I'd rather fly to Japan and bring it home after a great time. My wife tried to ask about a few pieces but didn't get any clarity. If you're gonna have a store like that...it would help to have people who are into that with full knowledge. read more

We visited this store while waiting for our food from Chodang. This store is located in that little plaza outside of Ala Moana that has Nijiya Market and Chodang. JQ store is in the same spot that Payless Shoe store used to be. JQ store is pretty much a Japanese toy and stationary place. They sell lot of Japanese pens, stuffed animals, and collectibles. They have some import figures from Japan but they are kind of expensive. It was a nice store to walk around but it was just a little pricey for some of their merchandise. I think I got my daughter a sticker sheet and it was about $5. But if you're into buying authentic Japanese collectibles, this is the place for you. read more

The cashier noticed that I was looking at the bobblehead Hello Kitty pens near the cash register and told me that there were more on the rotating rack near the store entrance... wow... the selection! My friend mentioned to me that a new Japanese store was about to open at the old Payless Shoes location next to Eggs and Things on Piikoi St. I went down after work to check out the name. There were not any cars parked in front and I too thought they weren't open yet because of the dark black tint on the whole glass front until someone pointed out to me that the store was open because there was an "open" sign on the door. I was told later by one of the worker that they may change the tint since it's too dark. After being inside, you can still feel the heat protruding through even with the tint. As I walked in, I thought I wouldn't be able to find something for myself in the anime section then I was thrilled to see many Japanese pens, cute Japanese characters and stationery item! ! I love to use the Japanese "Max" staplers at work. As I was looking at a few items which didn't have the price in US dollar amount , but only in yen, I turned to the guy cashier in front for help. I didn't realized he couldn't speak much English until he mentioned it to me and was going to call for help from the lady worker in the back who can translate. I should be able to speak a little simple Japanese since I did take some Japanese classes! I remembered how to say "How much is it" in Japanese "Ikura desu ka?" then he understood what I was asking. Some items were on the pricier side since it's from Japan but you can find all kinds of cool stationery, pens, pencil case, stuff animals, anime, hobby stuff and more. Such a cool store. My friend and Ana B. mentioned in her review that they have the same company in the Shirokiya Japan Village Walk but much more! Right now is still their soft opening and they are open for business from 11 am -6pm. Heard they do not do any advertisements so they asked my friend how did you hear about the store. Not sure they would close the other location in Shirokiya Japan Village Walk there are more places to buy the cute stationery & pens! Check it out, there are so many items for all interests! This is the place for you if you can't get to Japan, but love Japanese goods. It's located in the small shopping center right outside of Ala Moana (next to Eggs n Things). This store used to be the old Payless Shoe Source. Don't be turned away by their dark windows and think they are closed. They have a lighted 'OPEN' sign on during store hours so you know you can go right in. You'll find Japanese items such as stationery, plush dolls, model cars, toy models, designer tape, etc. There are aisles of various merchandise for you to peruse. Unfortunately, they didn't have my favorite character from Japan (Sirotan), but I expected that. No one in Hawaii carries that character. One can still hope, though! Hehe... While prices are a bit high, it's what you would expect living in Hawaii. But if you can't afford the expensive plane ticket to get your goods straight from Japan, I suppose it's worth it. If you're in the area, it's worth taking a look to see what you might find. I may pop in again from time to time just to see what kind of inventory they continue to bring in. Parking: They have a really small parking lot located where the old payless was by ala moana. Seems too be always busy since they do have other restaurants & stores. We had to wait maybe a food 20min till we got a parking stall. First time here. My fiance found out about this place from a friend. They are into r/c parts & tools but when got there it was mostly like Japanese stationarys, expensive toy figures & cars. Its pretty pricey here but dont get me wrong if your into collectables & all that, this is the place for you. Small store so not much to look at. Not sure if thats all or they are waiting on some items. I seen some cute Halloween washie tapes but it was $4.99. The only worker that greeted us or said anything to us was the guy working at the register. The ladies working the floor just walks right pass you without asking if we're doing find or need help. The one thing that caught my eyes were these Japanese mini booth that you could billed....till i seen how much it was. They have maby different ones so the price range from $50-90. Random name for a collectibles & toy store! Never would have found it without Yelp and Google maps! It is not in Ala Moana but just outside in a mini mall. But it is a goldmine! Our 6 yo boys were overjoyed to find it. It appeals to me because it is extremely neat and well organized and packed full of direct imports from Japan. A huge collection of Pokémon, Star Wars, Avengers, Matchbox cars, and more in collectibles, action figures, cards, stuffed animals, etc. Super friendly staff. read more

There are a lot of anime merchandise, particularly popular ones like Demon Slayer, Pokémon, and Studio Ghibli. I would love to return someday. What a fun store!! Anime/ stationary/ models/ and PENS!!! We stumbled upon this cool store. They just opened in Aug 2019. Well stocked, nice displays, and they offer paper to test their pens. The guys are very helpful and offer insight. My daughter and I were there and it was like being in a candy store but for pens... pencils... erasers... white out... staples... regular staples... paper crimpers for those who don't want to use staples. Oh my gosh! What a fun isle to be in!! So fun we walked out almost $90 later with new zebra sarasa 0.4 pens, pilot 0.3 mechanical pencils, holder for my stuff, cool mono zero 2.5 x5mm Elastomer eraser, and cute 4.2m correction tape. The supplies for refills are available - and better priced than some other stores that we have been to. The staff are friendly and offer assistance as needed. This store certainly lives up to its name...JQ = Japanese Quality. YES!! It is quite refreshing to walk into a store that has a little bit of everything. Stationary, blind boxes, stamps, towels, models, gundams, anime items, figures, etc. This is located in the same small area as Nijiya Market and Taiyo Ramen. Depending on the time you decide to visit, parking may be an issue. However, this store is worth this small discomfort/frustration. When you enter, to your right will be the stationary, working your way to the left will be anime items, models - all kinds...Star Wars, Anime, Pokemon, blind boxes, and the last section of this store is gundam. They also sell tools for building of these gundam. I always gravitate towards the stationary section. Pens, rulers, scissors, stickers, refills, stamps, notepads...oh boy! There is a very good selection here. I also like to look at the anime section where you can find items from your favorite shows. There are blind boxes as well - and I'm usually a sucker for those. LOL. They also sponsor build days and just had a stationary day - which I missed. Build days are not just for gundam enthusiasts, they are for anyone who is interested in building something. From what I hear all levels of builders are welcome and the people who attend are quite nice and willing to share tips and tricks. read more

This is the same JQ store that originally resided in Shirokiya but bigger! They are located at the old PayLess store. Parking is shared with Nijiya Market/Eggs and Things. They are under a soft opening and they don't have an official grand opening date as of yet. Though they did not greet me when entering or asked if I needed assistance, they redeemed themselves when answering my questions on items that didn't have the price tag. I find that a positive thing as I was able to wonder the store uninterrupted. I was so awed at all variety of pens,Pilot Kakuno fountain pens, 0.2 mechanical pencils, pencils cases, figures, plushies, stamps, shurikens, Studio Ghibli products but then I realized the prices here is more expensive than their original location. It doesn't seem that you can use the Gatcha World points here but if you have the need for authentic Japanese goods, you can get them here folks. PS. Manager-san speaks english and is nice and helpful. She was able to find some magical girl merchandise, which made my day, so thank you. read more

JQ Store is a US based Japanese hobby store that has collections of comic books, figurines, stationary, pop-culture items and collectables. We were just at the Ala Moana Shopping Center, and when looking for some Japanese food, we came across this small plaza a block away and stumbled onto the JQ Store. My partner and I really enjoy embracing Japanese culture and we have a blast finding places like this and checking it out. They have all sorts of fun and cute type of items and it's just Japanese culture on full display. If you're from the NYC area its similar to Kinokuniya bookstore but with a lot more focus on stationary and collectables and figurines. The store is a decent size with roughly 7-10 aisles full of items so one can enter and find themselves fully immersed and entertained for a good bit. Will definitely be back again and it was a nice walk into Japanese culture without having to go all the way to Japan. : ) read more

4/23/21- JQ Store Hawaii...wow ! I luuuuuve Japanese stationary! I grew up with Shirokiya's stationary ,u know...pencil cases, writing tools,sweet smelling erasers. Still as an adult, I've got to still have it! It makes ur job a little worth while using ur own aqua or pink colored pen ! It's on Piikoi St. in the same lot as Nijiya Market. On the side of Ala Moana Shopping Center. Free parking too! Teen boy has been searching for a refill on his "Frixion " pen I bought him for school. Well, wouldn't you know it? When we went to pay for the refill, the cashier said that they just got it in yesterday! How do you like that for perfect timing? JQ carries; Japanese stationary, anime items and hobbies. Sales clerks there are very friendly and helpful. It's the perfect store to pick up a gift for someone if you know exactly what they like. The front windows are covered in black because the sun strikes down so hard in this district. I thought it was another grocery store! I'm so glad that a little store like this has survive the Covid shut downs. It's people like us that help a little businesses stay afloat! read more

Walked by here several times before but never went in. Had a sign in the window that said soft opening. All windows have very dark tint so that you have no idea what they sell, until you open the door. I went to lunch at a nearby business and went inside here just out of curiousity. Pretty large store with a lot of Japanese plastic models, figurine characters and stamping supplies. Looked at some of the Japanese character plush items and they were very expensive. I guess being from Japan. Looked at some of the plastic models did not see any price tags. Was looking at the Japanese sword type letter openers and asked sales lady if it included the stand and she said she didn't know and would have to ask the manager. She came back and said it did include the stand and I asked if it included both of the swords as displayed and she replied she did not know but didn't want to open the box to check. I then took it anyways and as I paid the cashier, I asked him the same question, and he did not reply as I think he did not understand English. I then paid for it and opened it later and found it included the stand and both the swords. I also noticed that there is a lot of duplication on plastic models and one area of the store looked very empty. May stop by later on to see if they get any more inventory, since I work nearby. read more

I LOVE THIS STORE. It's similar to Hakubundo but carries a bigger selection of small toys and stationery items. The staff was so friendly, and excited to have three of us in the store. They are following all safety procedures and made it a really fun, enjoyable shopping experience. Everything is on the expensive side but most of the items are imported from other countries (seems like mostly Japan and Korea?) so overall it evens out. A really great place to purchase unique gifts for the office/collectible toy people in your life. read more
