Great gift selection with cute tote bags, lights, post cards, charms, and limited shirts.

Loved this shop so much, I had to come back on my next trip to Hawaii!!! The shop is so clean and they have so many cute options, it was hard to choose what to get this time I landed on a grumpy moomin hat and I'm in love! I'm not normally a big hat person, but these are such high quality and comfortable hats, not to mention they're adorable, I just couldn't resist! There is definitely something here for everyone!

    It looks so lively inside!

I had such a great time visiting! It reminded me so much of the old cartoons I watched as a kid! So much of it was exclusive to Hawaii as well!

Great if you're a Moomin fan. Some Hawaii exclusive items. Some items affordable some not. Great service, 1 staff in store. Love it!

The Moomin shop is NOT CLOSED. They just moved locations from the top level to level 1 where the food court is. I had a mini heart attack when I checked the original location but you can check a map directory and see where it is. I always come here every vacation to get a cute new hat and see what gifts I can get for friends and family! Also, the workers are always super friendly~

    Do you remember the Moomins?

Let's go to Moominvalley! While most Americans aren't familiar with the Finnish/Swedish comic book fairytale characters "The Moomins", I fortunately became acquainted with them while traveling through Europe and studying in France in the mid-70's. Ok, so, I'm old..but not as old as these characters (comic strips and books were released between 1945 - 1993). Immediately, I was attracted to these cute adventurous family of characters who resemble hippopotamuses. The Moomin Family (Moominpappa, Moominmamma and Moomintroll) represents the alter-egos of the comic strip creator (Tove Jansson) and his parents. In the 90's a Moomin shop opened in Ward Warehouse and I started to rebuild my Moomin collection. I started to watch the Japanese-made for television series "Moomins in Hawai'i" and remembered listening to the opening and closing theme songs sung by Nā Hōkū Award Winner Robi Kahakalau. Since that time, we've moved houses 2 times and the "collection" got distributed to younger family members. Fast forwarding, I read the FTR by fellow Elite, Kuuipo D, which highlighted this new store at Ala Moana Shopping Center. I made a beeline to the Ewa Wing and found this shop next to the Hallmark Store on the 2nd Floor. I went WILD and CRAZY! I browsed through the limited apparel, accessories and even sat for a few minutes to watch an episode of the Moomins. The cute as a button décor had me remembering Moominvalley and the Moomin Family. All of the characters have fun-loving and adventurous personalities. The sales representatives are young and so helpful as they will talk to you about the background of Tove Jansson's creations. They'll even help you find your Moomin personality. A lot of the souvenirs or comic-branded products are pricey but if you're a fan, it's worth it.

Moomin in Hawaii!!! Just opened today, 7/13/18. There are located across from Brandy Melville in the Ewa Wing. Parking is available in the structure and anywhere around the mall. As I stated, they opened today. The store is sparse, for now. Currently, there are shirts, bags, towels, mugs, pouches/purses. There is even a couch/play area for the kids (or hubbies) to sit & watch Moomin while you shop. The decor is ADORABLE! Moomin & Friends are painted on the walls. The shelving looks like a house with a roof. One of the associates, Pauline, was very helpful! She explained the photo op areas & volunteered to take our pictures. She went over & beyond! If you're into Moomin & in the area, please go check them out! I can't wait to see what other things they have in the future!

    More moomin stuff!

Holy Yikes! I remember my kids would watch the Moomins with Sistah Robi Kahakalau singing the theme song. Once in a while I'd sit and watch the shows with them. It was a nice change from cartoons that showed non-stop violence and characters getting hurt. Not to say the Moomins didn't have their problems but like folks in Hawaii, they solved it with Aloha. Finding a store at Ala Moana chockful of Moomin goodies from T-shirts to mugs to purses and of course the books, was a nice surprise. Prices are reasonable and their store was very neat with very helpful sales personnel. If visiting Japan, this is a must visit to get omiyagi for your Japanese friends. Apparently they're very popular. Come by and see!

Cute little store with a lot of options. Pay with cash to avoid the 3% credit card fee. Cashier was very friendly and helpful.

Fukubukuro (happy grab bag) was a let down. The main content was four tote bags. Staff was nice, experience was a downer.

This review is based solely on my experience with the staff during my visit today…read more I've shopped at Pink Box multiple times in the past and have never had any issues, which is why this experience was disappointing. My mom and I stopped in because she was looking for earrings. She had mentioned before that Pink Box has cute selections at reasonable prices, so we decided to browse. While she was looking at earrings and pointing out styles she liked, I was helping her look through them. For context, I don't even wear earrings since I have large gauges, so I wasn't shopping for myself in that section. Afterward, I moved over to the claw clips and was looking through some butterfly clips to see if they came in matching colors. A sales associate approached us and asked if we needed help. We politely said no thank you and continued browsing. What made us uncomfortable was that after that interaction, the employee remained very close to us and appeared to be watching us the entire time. When we moved to a different area, she followed. Whether intentional or not, it felt as though we were being monitored because she suspected we might steal something. My mom and I both noticed it, and it made the shopping experience uncomfortable. We are paying customers who have visited this store before and have never given anyone a reason to be suspicious of us. I understand that retail employees have a job to do, but there is a difference between being attentive and making customers feel like they're under surveillance. Unfortunately, because of that experience, we didn't feel welcome during our visit.

The whole store is made up of Hawaiian themed merchandise. There were jewelry, cards, body care items and tons of clothes. They have some really cute items. My friend purchased a set of plastic flower beads to string together to make a necklace. What caught my eye that I really wanted was the sunrise shell necklace. I've always wanted one. The shell has the pink and yellow colors on it to mimic the sunrise. I'm contemplating on getting it as I've wanted one for a while.

I went in and out of the dressing rooms a few times while trying on outfits, and none of them had a basket or spot for purses. Each time I had to hang my handbag on a hanger with the clothes, since I refuse to put my handbag on the dirty ground. Finally, the very last dressing room I tried did have a basket at the bottom, which was much better. The clothing and jewelry are adorable -- some even look handmade -- and I did buy a few outfits and a cute pair of earrings. Prices are on the higher side, but the pieces are unique and eye-catching, so if you're looking for something different, it might be worth it. Unfortunately, checkout brought the experience down. Since I didn't need a bag, the sales associate handed me my clothes directly, but forgot my earrings. I didn't notice until I was halfway home. I tried looking everywhere for a phone number -- Yelp, the Ala Moana directory, the internet -- and couldn't find one. The only number I found just rang with no answer. So instead of calling, I had no choice but to drive all the way back through traffic. When I arrived, the sales associate saw me, handed me the earring, and said she was "going to text me." No apology, no "sorry for the inconvenience" -- nothing. Considering they have my number from the rewards program sign-up, that was disappointing. Overall, Sugar Sugar is a cute boutique with stylish pieces, but expect boutique pricing and limited dressing room amenities. The service could use improvement, especially when mistakes happen.

Shopping in Chinatown, Honolulu, Hawaii…read more.. My mom was on the hunt for Year of the Dragon shirts for my sister in Colorado, my nephew, and my nieces. We went to Walmart, Don Quijote, Dillingham Shirt Outlet, and Maunakea Street in Chinatown. She found shirts at Jessica's Jewelryand Gifts, but she didn't get a shirt for my nephew's girlfriend. In a panic, mom called me to go back to Jessica's. They were sold out. Only XL gray shirts were left. I entered Maunakea Marketplace, where I had dropped her off the other day, but she didn't walk far enough in... to get to YaFangShi Fashion. On the day before Lunar New Year, I saw many shirts of various colors and different designs hanging outside a shop! Inside, the clothes were neatly folded, and the dresses were hanging for better viewing. OMG... It was like t-shirt heaven! The shop was called YaFangShi Fashion. The friendly owner introduced herself and said that her name was Lian and that she's been here for 24 years! I had passed by often... and even bought a lavender-colored Cony umbrella, but didn't know the name of the shop. Looking around, Lian even had dresses, tops, jackets, footwear, accessories, and pants! I got a navy blue, medium-sized Year of the Dragon shirt for my nephew's girlfriend and gave it to mom to give to her on Lunar New Year. Everyone was happy! Yay! Happy Lunar New Year of the Wood Dragon!
