Coming home from a long weekend of fishing in Southport with my buddy, we stopped here on the way home. The plan was to sit in the smoke room and enjoy a stick, then be on our way. When we got there, we found d out they were having a shindig for NFL opening game day. Neither of us is a sports fan, but we're always down for a shindig They had free boneless wings, a few types of sandwiches, and deviled eggs on the house. We bought a couple of Leather Rose torpedoes, a couple of beers, grabbed a plate of chow, and chilled! After finishing our cigars, food, and a beer or three, we decided to get going since we wanted to get home. And since we're men and we didn't need any cigars, we decided the smart thing to do was to cruise the mega humidor room to see what we couldn't live without Tim took some time to walk around and talk about their many specials. All the guys in here (and Donna, too) are amazing. Their knowledge is impressive, and the customer is king here. Imagine if a Chick-fil-A drive thru and the Amazon return process had a baby. That baby would be how you're treated here. First of all I love to smoke cigars so visiting here was a planned stop going through Burlington. Surprised to see a nice selection of wines at a fair price once you get in the place. The humidor is huge and well stocked. I also liked that they had a nice selection of five packs and small boxes of cigars. The thing I found a little confusing was pricing stickers. I've driven past this place a few times and I've seen their billboards a hundred times. Today was the first time that I was in no rush and figured that I would finally check it out. And the verdict is that it's as the earlier review says. This place is half Wal-Mart and half flea market. I suppose that they have a selection of "core" items but the rest seems to be whatever the buyer could get a good deal on. Hats, jeans, cowboy boots, suitcases, toys, towels (rainbow of colors), books, and too many more to list. I walked in with the expectation that I wasn't going to be buying anything at all, but I was 20 feet into the store and I found two things. I had to circle back for a shopping trolley. In the end, I got a pair of gloves, a very nice leather wallet ($7), a pair of "irregular" Wrangler jeans ($15, I still can't figure out what was wrong with them), a Chicago Cutlery kitchen knife ($8) and a few other bits and bobs. Considering that I wasn't planning any purchase, the $50 total at the register was a bit of a surprise because I bought a good bunch of stuff. None of it junk. Strange that I have seen this place advertised all over the place for it's mail order cigars at discounted prices so I was dumbfounded to find my self making a trek to the homeland. Well after getting there, I would say its not all that, they sell a bunch of CRAP but the cigarettes are cheep and the cigar section well thats is worth making the trip. You walk into this huge section with thousands if not 10s of thousands of cigars and not just the low end stuff the high end stogies can be found here. Secondly, I have a tendency to get distracted by billboards and stop a lot, I mean a lot. JR Cigars hits both of these idiosyncrasies spot on with me. I really am a sucker for free orange juice, the world's largest anything, and shiny things while I am driving across state lines. JR Cigars did a great job of placing billboards all along the highway, teasing me, taunting me, with it's promises of a huge humidor and low prices. I couldn't resist the siren's call and found myself pulling in to a very busy parking lot of equally swept up tourists. The store itself is huge, and had I not been focused on finding the humidor, I might have spent a while walking the aisles. Instead I bee-lined it to the back of the store and walked in to the "humidor" which was actually the entire cigar shop. The cigar selection is enormous, and prices were very good on many brands. Signage and pricing weren't the best, with many cigars and boxes prices, and no employees that were readily available to help on the floor. Stacy hit the classification nail on the head. On our way home from a short vacation out toward Charlotte we decided to stop. We're kind of wishing we had that 45 minutes back. I'm not a fan. The "Big Lots but bigger" atmosphere was okay but it was even less appealing than Big Lots. As an ex smoker, I'm not a fan of cigars or cigarettes so the tobacco portions of the store didn't impress me either. This is a great place to shop for cigars. They have an immense variety - almost all the major brands, except for ones like Davidoff, and they have a large number of JR brands, almost a comparable cigar for each one carried by the major brands - and much cheaper, usually. I buy some JR brands, but my preferred small cigar is the Macanudo Ascot which comes in a 10 cigar tin - the price here comes out to less than $1.50 per cigar - at most places around town the price is over $2. The folks that work here know their cigars, and are always helpful. I know cigars are not for everyone, and smoking anything, anytime has been demonized, but in my own backyard patio, I still very much like the smell and taste of a decent cigar. read more

Was able to explore the pipe section and even though tin selection was a little limited I was able to find a couple hard to find blends. John was very helpful and friendly during checkout. Let them see the very best in middle age vinyasa. And after yoga practice, mind and body at one and with my special inner peace firmly secured, I would go to meditate...at a taco or burger joint...preferably one that sold whiskey. No better place to quietly contemplate your navel. But these days, my ritual "after practice" meditation routine is a little different...no greasy double bacon cheeseburgers and Glenfiddich for Karma Dancer...no, these days the retox of system has to be accomplished by setting fire to one of the best things invented by man...a cigar. I don't get all of my cigars from any one source...some come to me from the Caribbean or a little shop in Hamilton, Bermuda...some come from friends that are kind enough to send me cigars from London or Prague...some even come from the local shops that are nice enough to let me stop by and fondle their offerings from time to time. But I get a bunch of my humidor fodder from the nice folks at JR Cigar! Why, you ask me? Well, the biggest reason is that they sell the darn things at very reasonable prices...my beloved La Gloria Cubana Serie R #6 (the Dominican's...not the Cubano's), for example, sell for around $22.00 a pop at the local shops, what with the sin taxes, mark-ups and what not...but I can buy 24 of them from JR for around $150.00...even with my limited math skills, I can see that JR Cigars has a better deal! One of the wonderful things that all this yoga and meditation and enlightenment has taught me, is that spending more than I need to on earthly pleasures makes my peepee hurt...so I try to save dough wherever I can. JR Cigars very nicely fills in the blank spots in my humidor with a minimum of urological discomfort! Yay! I order online and the cigars arrive in a couple of days, fresh as a daisy and ready to spend a few days "seasoning" in my humidor before I use the softly glowing end of one of them as my meditation "focal point", while I sit in the hot tub and unravel the mystery's of the universe. In a world where I can't drink the whiskey or eat the gigantic enchilada style burritos anymore, a place like JR Cigar's helps me cling to some of my remaining vices...er pleasures. read more

If i could give them a 0 star i would. Let me explain the worst racial discrimination i have ever experienced in my life. Me and my wife we're visiting Greensboro. We recently moved to Maryland. So we we're both excited to see friends we haven't seen since moving to Maryland. And after leaving this store it gave us both a sense of depression. A little background on me and my wife..... First off we own a convenient store in Salem, NC. and we recently opened one in greensboro so knowing that there's a JR closer to that location our manager at the greensboro location could travel to this location instead of our manager at our Salem location coming from Salem all the way to Greensboro and/ or meeting each other half way. So back to the review.... My wife helped me bring some items to the counter.Now as Im still shopping for OUR store the lady behind the counter requested my wife to pull her mask down. My wife does so and then the lady looks to the lady next to her and says out loud. "like i thought." She then asks for my wife's ID. Remind you I was the one shopping she was standing by the front counter waiting for me to finish. Matter of fact she says to the same lady( I wish i knew her name) "if u want i can put this back for you" because i decided to get a full case instead of a single pack. And then puts the single pack back where it was. Now if the employee didnt want her to do so she could have just said no. My wife is always wanting to help. All she wanted to do is help this employee from having to walk all the way around from behind the counter to put something I put up on the counter back. We all know its apart of the employee's job but it was right there. My wife tells her she forgot her ID but she does have something that proves she is over 21. REMIND EVERYONE WE WERE THERE FOR ME. My wife shows her and she said she could not accept that. So we were thinking my wife had to just leave the store. After verifying that my wife is in fact over 21 the lady says she cant sell ME the tobacco....... Now she originally thought my wife was under age maybe because the scarf set I bought her covered her entire face. But after she knew my wife is over 21. ME the person that was the customer from the first place could NOT continue with MY PURCHASE. 20 minutes later after dropping my wife off at work I go back and the SAME lady says she cant sell me tobacco. Now earlier before all this happened me and my wife both witness this SAME lady not id MULTIPLE people that entered the store. Not the customer or the individual they were accompanied by. My wife thinks we should contact a lawyer cause there was definitely racially discriminating against us. Because she was not the one purchasing the products so her age did not matter and if that's the case why didn't you verify the couple that just left. We both believe it was because we were black. I will never ever take my business there again. They lost a very substantial customer TODAY. We are very familiar with the JR OUTLET in Salem, but we have NEVER been racially separated and/or felt soooo inhumane EVER. There's no sign or security at the front door to verifying ID's. There's NO law that states that you have to have a valid(non expired) drivers license or ID to be in the store. It STATES no one under 21 can be in the store. My wife was not the customer I was plus My wife is 33. They NEED to do something about this because my wife is serious about talking to a lawyer. This was my wife's first encounter with this lady but I have been in there several times and she follows me while im shopping but this time she definitely went TOOO FAR. Worst thing about all of this is the lady Im speaking of I think shes the manager. She was polite but spoke in a "you are beneath me" tone. My wife does get that she looks young alot and even when she forgets her id in the car she has NEVER had anyone make her feel like this lady did in this store. Its just SAD!!!!!!!!!
