6/6/2025- What do you do when you wake up and realize your TPMS light is on-? We've been to Mammoth many times with my Lexus and never had any lights come on.. Couple months ago I had it checked out and one tire was low. Drove down to the location no one there- Called- just rang and couldn't leave a message- Due to the high elevation probably went off- As soon as we put air in the tires and drove to the highway- the light went off!

Excellent service! My family and I were out traveling and camping up the 395 when ended up with a flat. Switched to our spare and of course, lost that too ‍ We pulled into Mammoth area and luckily came across J.R. Tire Shop. The owner Jose was a blessing! He helped change all our trailer tires for a good price and was QUICK! Highly recommend! read more

Go here. Jose was very friendly and super chill. One of my tires sprung a slow leak on the way up from Socal. He quickly found a nail, plugged the tire, and had me on my way in under 30 minutes for a reasonable price. I drove 300 miles back home with zero problems. Thank you!!! read more

Excellent customer service. Got me top rated tires very quick, durability and speed rating were excellent. I blew out a trailer tire on the way to Mammoth Lakes. We had a blowout tire during our recent trip to June Lake. I looked up tire shops in the area and JR was the closest one. They are located in Mammoth. Jose and his family have been in Mammoth for 40 years. Not only did they save our trip by replacing the blown out tire and our spare, but they also recommended several must see areas in mammoth. read more

Went to the garage and noticed the a tire looked like it needed air. Inspected the tire and saw a sheet metal screw embedded in it. Called around to several shops for repair, JR Tire was first to say they could do it. I crept from Mammoth Mtn Inn to JR Tire and made it with the air left in the tire. They fixed it and I was heading back to the MM Inn in less than 30 minutes. read more

Jose was a super nice guy and came out in the snow storm to help me adjust my snow chains which I had installed incorrectly. He corrected my installation and we drove to his shop to make sure chain wasn't rubbing against my wheel well. As it turns out chains don't work with my vehicle. Jose didn't have any cables but went out of his way to take me to the gas station close by to purchase cables and back to his shop to install them. I couldn't have asked for better service and excellent workmanship at a fair price. He saved my vehicle from serious damage and kept my family safe. I would definitely recommend JR Tire to anyone looking for help for tires or snow chains! Gracias "Chepe y Lobo" Thank you!! read more

The shop was closed on Sunday but I just happened to catch the owner of the shop there catching up on paperwork. He quickly repaired my tire because he didn't want me driving home from Mammoth with a nail in my tire. Great customer service! read more

JR saved my day when I got a chain link stuck in my tire. He came out within the hour and fixed my tire on the spot. He saved me from having to get towed which for an electric car is an ordeal. He was really nice and polite and did a great job. I highly recommend him. read more

We were able to call in on a Saturday early afternoon to get a tire patched and reinstalled. We were in and out within the hour, and it was quoted 60 bucks. It was a good peace of mind, especially driving all the way back to Southern California. Highly recommended for its professional and good quality service! read more

I had a falt tire on my auto trailer while traveling to Gardnerville, NV for a dune buggy meet. I went to two tire shops and one claimed he had the tire I needed but could not find it. The second shop had a tw hour wait to change a tire. Luckily I found JR Tire shop, The owner was eating lunch and stopped eating to help me. He had the tire I needed in stock and I purchased two tires from him. Great service and quality installation on my trailer. So happy I found him! read more

JR is a class act. I pulled into Mammoth Lakes about 3pm on 8/16/24 and the other tire shops were too busy to help me with a flat tire. I pulled up to JRs and it look closed so I called the number and left a message. He called back and was briefly out of town on personal business but said he would call as soon as he got back. He called less than 2 hours later, serviced my issue after hours in a friendly and quality manner, explaining exactly what I needed at a reasonable price. He even made sure my spare was safely inflated before stowing it. Definite high recommendation for a small local shop. read more

Of course we drive up to Mammoth and the sensor starts to complain about a low tire. I take a look and lo and behold there's a 3" screw in it. Lovely. I tried another shop and they couldn't give me a straight price nor could they tell me when they could get to me. I called JR Tire Shop, he told me his hours (they were adjusted) and said if I come at noon he would be there and could get me in. I showed up at noon, he got me in right away. Took 15 min max. Nicest guy. If I ever need tire repairs in mammoth again, this is where I'm going. Highly recommend. read more

Chepe (JR) is the nicest guy. We had a flat on 395 on the way to Mammoth - I pulled off the freeway and used the spare that I had bought (my car didn't come with a spare when bought new) - I searched and found JR Tire Shop - I then drove in and spoke with Chepe. We (wife and I) we were concerned as we were only visiting for a couple of days. Also my car requires special tires (255 40 19) - that he didn't have in stock. He found a set in Bishop and told me he would pick them up the next day as he had some business in Bishop. The next day my tires were replaced and we were able to continue our wonderful vacation in Mammoth. Thank you Chepe - I very much appreciate what you did for us. I highly recommend JR Tire Shop. read more

We were in Mammoth for a ski vacation, had a slow leak to one of our tires which we kept it functioning by using a portable tire inflator. JR tire shop was recommended to us by one of the front desk personnel at Mammoth Inn, we called the shop on our departure day to get it checked out. The shop was busy, but the shop owner squeezed us in after a very reasonable wait. They found a puncture on the leaking tire by a piece of metal. The tire was promptly patched up and the price was fantastic. We are the end of a seven hour drive home. The tire has been great during the trip. I highly recommend this shop! read more

Did some off-roading near Parker Lake and knocked my tires out of balance. Went to another shop in town and they told me I needed to wait until the next day because they were busy. Found this hidden gem on the maps.The guys at the shop were working on other cars when I showed up but let me know they would help us as soon as they were done. As soon as the owner (wish I got his name) of the shop saw my vehicle, he was instantly able to diagnose and fix the issue. In and out in 30 minutes with a reasonable price. Highly recommend to anyone needing tire services. read more

When I got back to town, all tire places were either closed or didn't have my tire size. I got a hold of the owner and he was two hours north in another town. He said he would buy my tire in that town and meet me later that day at his shop in Mammoth. I met him at his shop in the early evening and he was able to install a new tire and get me on my way. He gave me a fair deal and he was a nice guy. He really helped me out of a jam. I would recommend him anytime you have tire issues. Thank you!

He called an hour later saying he fixed the issue and it was good for the trip home. It was a minor issue and quick fix but he could have told me it was tiny unicorns poking holes in the muffler and charged hundreds with me none the wiser. He charged a fair price and it got my family home safe. Nice to know there's honest business owners out there.

HORRIBLE. I am a…read moreAAA member and the service sent us assistance from a Mr. K tow driver after we lost a tire chain and got stuck on an icy road. We requested a tow take us to a nearby gas station (covered by my membership). We were advised via phone and text that a tow truck would arrive at 10:30 am. After calling AAA Roadside Services multiple times (between 11 and 11:30 AM) to report that the tow truck had not shown up, the truck arrived at 12:15 (3 hours after the initial call and over 1.5 hours after the arranged time). The driver declined to tow us to a gas station! He never exited his truck. After we got neighbors to tow us partially out of the way of a driveway, the tow driver told us to leave the car where it was and "hoped we had a ride home." He did not offer us a ride. After waiting for help for 3 hours, we walked back to our condo, in the snow, for 2 miles. Do not rely on these guys!

Rob was super honest and upfront with me about Audis not being Shorty's bread and butter, but that he could help by giving it a diagnostic, figure out what things needed attention, and decide if it was time for me to shop around for another car. In the end, he recommended that I shouldn't default to replacing the cat or the sensor and hypothesized that it was a vacuum leak, also putting together a list of priority items--which Nicole explained in detail--for my independent euro car mechanic in San Francisco to go through and replace with Audi parts. My mechanic in the city read Rob's report and agreed with everything, remarking at how thorough it was. It turns out, the car did indeed have a cracked vacuum hose. He used Rob's notes to fix all the other little things that needed attention, and now I'm back to having a perfectly running car with 160K miles on it. It's really nice to have a shop out here that can pinch hit for this kind of troubleshooting and, even if they prefer not to get into some things themselves, provide a real honest and detailed diagnosis of the likely causes and solutions are. They just earned a new customer! They were very knowledgeable on the phone and instilled confidence immediately. They said they could take a look at my car if I brought it by. They ended up keeping it and I got it back in two days! Shorty is very knowledgeable and explained to me everything that he did and why. There is nothing wrong with my former mechanic. But a couple of weeks is a long time to wait. They were just so above And beyond on my expectations at Shorty's. I'll never think twice about heading there again.

I found that hard to believe considering it was only a warning light and the car still ran fine. Then luckily I found Zack! He is very knowledgeable about Subarus and had dealt with this issue a dozen times before. He fixed the problem right away, it was easy and painless. My car runs great now. After being told this news, we soon realized the engine replacement cost would be more than the van was worth. We hen had the van towed to storage. A couple days later, I called and asked for some sort of quote or documentation that the engine needed to be replaced and I was told that they didn't even take the vehicle off the tow truck. On top of their lazy assessment of vehicle, they would not provide me any written quote or send confirmation that engine needed to be replaced, which I needed for insurance purposes. They even hung up on me when I attempted to explain why I needed documentation. I'm all about giving great feedback and customer service but BE WARNED! Take your car elsewhere!

I am a single mom who was stranded in Lee Vining last week with a blowout and JR tire was generous enough to come in to the shop after hours and meet me to sell me a mounted and balanced tire without gouging me for my misfortune. Had a blowout during camping trip. Found J.R. tires through yelp. Jose had to order tires for me so I could get them next day. I went to several businesses in town and found out my tire had separated due to the heat of the desert being 109F. We found Mammoth Mobil Tire and they couldn't have been nicer. They helped us find a tire in Bishop and then after figuring out how to get it to the shop, they put it on for free the next morning. I tried to pay them, but they insisted it was "on the house". When I got back to town, all tire places were either closed or didn't have my tire size. I got a hold of the owner and he was two hours north in another town. He said he would buy my tire in that town and meet me later that day at his shop in Mammoth. I met him at his shop in the early evening and he was able to install a new tire and get me on my way. He gave me a fair deal and he was a nice guy. He really helped me out of a jam. I would recommend him anytime you have tire issues. Thank you!
