We had a reunion event here last summer and I forgot to post the AMAZING review they deserve. Everyone was wonderful to work with and they were so accommodating and helpful in the planning process. The patio was perfect as it provided rain cover as well as fresh air to enjoy the summer evening. We had plenty of table and seating space. We ordered pizza and wraps and were allowed to bring in some dessert treats to place with the rest of the spread. We could not have asked for nicer people to work with. The food was delicious and all was gone by the end of the night. We'll be back -- highly recommend! read more

Easily the worst restaurant service in Lima. I've been two J's twice, and each time was in the first month of its existence, so perhaps things will improve. When I first saw the building, renovated from the former Custer's Chateau, I was in love. The patio just screams from outdoor dining on warm summer nights. The interior is pushed to its full potential with beautiful wood and skylights and a spectacular bar. But the service, oh, the service. Waiting a half hour to be offered a drink. Waiting another 20 minutes to get the drink. Then being given menus, then waiting 45 minutes on food when there's no crowd to be seen. I love a long dinner, but only when I want one. If I want to eat and be gone in an hour, that shouldn't be a problem. Also, the servers need a serious wine education. My partner and I ordered a bottle with our dinner on Wine Down Wednesday, and waited nearly an hour before we received it. Why? Because the staff couldn't get the bottle open. And when it did arrive, it was the wrong chardonnay, a $60 bottle instead of a $15 bottle. To the server's credit, she ate the cost of the wine and offered us free dessert, which wasn't listed anywhere on the menu. When asked what the dessert options were, I was told, "Ice cream, milkshake or a caramel apple something-or-other." She said she didn't know what the caramel apple thing was because she couldn't hear the cook yelling it to her from the kitchen. I suppose walking over was out of the question. She didn't even know what flavors of ice cream were available. I opted for the caramel apple thing, which turned out to essential be pie a-la-mode. It's a pity this place dissappointed so thoroughly, because I really was hoping to have a nice patio eatery within walking distance. Went here for lunch. It felt like we were the only people in there. The service started out good but got worse the longer we were there. We both ordered the chopped salad. I guess maybe I was expecting my salad to be chopped, but it was a regular salad. Nothing remarkable and I won't go out of my way to go here the next time I'm home in Lima. read more

First time at J's - nice, clean atmosphere to spend with friends. It was a little on the loud side but it is a bar. Service was kinda slow, seemed like there wasn't enough wait staff. Came for lunch at 11:30am had to wait for drinks first off then waitress remembered the other to drinks 15 minutes later. The pizza Buffett was a wait for 2 kinds of pizza and bread sticks then at 12:15pm 2 more pizzas came out. We should have went across the street to Fat Jacks! Ambiance- this place is reminiscent of some good bars in warmer climates. They have great open areas, and the bay doors that really open up the existing large rooms for summer. Staff/ cleanliness- very attentive and polite service. The place is clean. Food/pricing -the food is a decent serving size, yet the quality of the same dish can vary, and is overpriced. I will come back, and patron this place. Just expect to be here for the social experience. read more

On Saturday, September 9th a group of four of us decided to go to J's for what we thought was going to be a great time. After being at the bar for a little while we went out on the patio to smoke a cigarette. As we were smoking a cigarette we noticed a very very intoxicated female sitting at one of the tables acting very irrational. Not only was she being extremely loud and obnoxious but she was also throwing and pushing beer bottles off of the table and onto the cement patio to which there was now broken glass and alcohol everywhere. At first we kind of just tacked it up to her being extremely inebriated but then things started to escalate. To our surprise as this female continued to throw bottles she kept saying, "It's ok, I'm an employee here". Assuming that this was her way of horribly trying to justify such an immature act. She repeated that sentence multiple times also saying "I always work Tuesdays" and other statements that made it clear that she really honestly was an employee at J's. As bad as this already sounds, it only gets worse from here. After about the third or fourth beer bottle being thrown one of us from our group told her that she needed to chill out and that nobody wanted to be around that kind of drama. She obviously didn't like the truth and started acting even more irrational to which she ended up slapping him across the face. His sister stepped in and told her she needed to leave the patio area. After a few minutes she finally went back inside. After all of this happening I decided that it be best that I go in to tell the bar tender exactly what was going on because this female was acting inappropriately and she clearly shouldn't have still been at the bar. When I approached the bar tender, I noticed that the female who was acting crazy was standing up at the bar also. I asked the bar tender if that female was an employee for J's. She just kind of looked at me and didn't answer. I repeated myself again, and once again she just kind of looked over to her and I could tell that the bartender was embarrassed. I told her that the girl already made it very clear that she worked there. I then told her that she needed to get her out of the bar and that if I ever saw her in the bar again or working at the bar that I would be contacting the owner. She then asked why, and I explained to her what happened outside. She got very defensive as if it was one of our faults that she was clearly over served and acting belligerent. She finally told the other bar tender that she needed to get the girl out of the bar, which she did....we thought. About 5 or 10 minutes went by and we were trying to brush everything off and continue to have a good time. But once again in walks this drunk female. I turned around, because I was up at the bar, and I told the bar tender that she was back in the establishment. She once again told the other bar tender and she walked over to her. We were told by this other bar tender that we needed to "just leave her alone". We did not feel like this was a good solution to the problem and told the bar tender that she needed to get this person out of the bar, considering that she has already been smashing beer bottles on the patio, slapping people, and then trying to justify it by claiming she works there (such a very good representation of your company by the way). As if this situation isn't already bad enough, the tables got turn on us. Because we were not ok with this completely over served, immature individual still being in the bar the bar tender called the bouncer over and told the bouncer to get all four of us out of the bar. As the bouncer approached our group he told us we needed to go. One of the people in our group was trying to explain to him the situation and the bouncer apparently didn't want to hear the story, which also made it clear at this point that this had nothing to do with keeping the customers safe but everything to do with covering the asses of all of the employees involved. As we were trying to explain the situation to the bouncer the bouncer then started pushing on one of the guys in our group. Telling him to back up, and more or less pushing us all out the door. We were still trying to tell our side of the story because we couldn't believe that we were the ones getting kicked out (four paying customers who did nothing), yet this intoxicated employee who is putting everyones safety at risk was allowed to stay. The bouncer then turned extremely violent and said that we could "handle this outside if you want to". And that's exactly what happened. Once we got outside the bouncer continued to make threats and act extremely unprofessional. There was no physical violence, the cops were called and somehow we all are in the wrong and are never allowed back to this establishment. read more

Great food. Very friendly staff but seemed like they were short handed. We would have spent a lot more money had they serviced our table more often. We were all out of drinks several times. Other than that, great place to go. read more

Wish that I could've left a better review. I ordered the pizza starving, and an order of wings. The wings were okay, but the sauce I didn't care much about. As it was far from being a traditional buffalo flavor. The pizza was just very chewy and very bland. Overall I was disappointed. May try it again much later on, maybe it was just a bad night. Beyond horrible, ordered the Macho Nacho and a 10 inch supreme Pizza. The macho nacho was microwaved (I watched her do it, gave the benefit of the doubt that maybe it was an oven), they were beyond soggy. $15 for a Personal size (10 inch) Pizza is outrageous and it was overcooked. Have been here several times, I have never had such poor service each and every time. One time for lunch, it took 20 minutes to get our drinks and an hour for our food, don't they realize most people only have an hour for lunch? Food was bland, just your typical bar food type place. read more

This review is on the food only, as we called in and carried out. The food was fantastic. I have had breaded mushrooms, from a hundred different places. I've never had any as good as theirs. They are big portobello caps, with a delicious batter. We ordered the sampler: mozzarella sticks, boneless hot wings, and mushrooms. It's a hearty portion of food. The BBQ bacon double cheeseburger, with onion straws is amazing too. read more

J's is a local hub for drinking. Happy hour has some crazy cheap prices for beers on tap. The beers are generally quite generic and domestic, so very few craft beers available. Great Lakes Eerie monster and Victory are offered, as is Angry Orchard (the 3 I would recommend). The late night pizzas and fried pickles and nachos are good and well priced. This isn't an amazing eatery. The food is mediocre by day and definitely more along the lines of American bar food. The summer patio is a nice place to relax with friends and enjoy a drink. The service is decent and is luck-of-the-draw on who is serving you. Having a pool table is a fun addition, but being located in the corner near the restrooms makes it very difficult to enjoy billiards. Decor is better than other local places, but isn't spectacular. Overall, it is a decent place to go with a group of friends for late night drinks... Going out for dinner or on a date would be out of the question in my opinion. read more

J's is a bar. They have food, but I wouldn't go there for meals. There are plenty of TVs to watch sports if you're looking for something other than BW3. The beer and liquor selection is pretty generic, but J's isn't the kind of place you should go if you're looking for a microbrew or fancy cocktail. This Is the place the 20 and 30 something's go to drink, play pool and unwind. As others have said, Happy Hour is pretty good, and on Wednesdays they host trivia. read more

Went to J's semi early on a Saturday night and was plenty surprised. I tried the J's on Harden Highway and had horrible food and service. (granted, that was within a few weeks of it opening up) After hearing a few good things about this new one, we gave it a shot. Decent food, OK prices, and good atmosphere. A lot better than we expected. The only downside was that the service was not that great. We came in, got seated, was told someone would be with us. 5 minutes later, someone came and got our drink order. 5 minutes after that, some else came with the food order. Overall, not horrible, but not that great. Normally when friends come to town, Beer Barrel is the go to place. J's will be a nice substitute when we are looking for more of a "bar" type of place. read more

Food was less than average. Music was turned up so loud (needlessly) that you couldn't talk to the person next to you. My Long Island tasted like all soda water. Appetizer took 30+ minutes to come out. Another server spilled salad dressing on my wives coat and didn't bother to tell her (a significant spill). We have ate at east side J's with good results. Will not go back to Spencerville Road location anytime soon. Onion rings substituted for chips - $2 charge for 4 rings. read more
