REVIEW: I take my 11 year old son here for Karate class. I…read morealso attend kickboxing classes here and have taken other classes over the past two years. FACILITY: The new location is large, bright and very clean. There is a large sitting area for parents/siblings to relax, wait, or clearly watch the class in session. The mats where the karate magic happens are spotless. PROFESSIONALISM: Mr. E and Mrs. E are very professional and accommodating. Classes/prices were fully explained and very reasonably priced. Class times are accessible and reach a variety of skills and levels. CLASS: Mrs. E and an assistant teach various levels of karate classes. They began with a creed which is about teamwork and respect towards family. Perfect for my son! They then warm up with karate exercises. As the whole class continues, skills were taught at an age appropriate speed with instructors assisting kids' movements. The class was gets divided into groups for rotations to practice various skills. After rotations, the children are divided into ability levels so the instructors can differentiate their teaching. The instructors are very attentive to students who may need more direction or assistance with the basics. Class ends as a whole group, reviewing what was done that session and by restating the creed. All students are taught to thank their parents and then they are given rewards for their behavior and efforts in class. This is all very similar to the adult kickboxing classes, just picture it with women of all ages and skill levels. OVERALL: As a teacher and mother, I was extremely impressed with the preparation involved to ensure all students' needs were met. The delivery of instruction was clear, and each child's activity was closely monitored for accuracy. Activities were designed to meet the needs of many learners and skill levels while still engaging everyone. The instructors were well prepared, knowledgeable and had a great rapport with the children. All kids were positively reinforced for good behavior and efforts and loved the "kicks" and sticker rewards at the end. THANK YOU!!!! My son walked away from class excited and motivated. He came home to set up a "karate studio" in the living room to teach his younger brother "the basics". Even after attending for over a year, I've never seen him so excited about an extracurricular activity! I'm also thrilled at the karate/home/school connection of earning stars for chores, homework completion, good school reports, and great behavior. I am looking forward to seeing my son's continued progress in all areas of his life. xo

Life-Changing Experience at Kickside Martial Arts!…read more Joining Kickside Martial Arts has truly been one of the most transformative decisions of my life. What began as a challenge quickly became a passion thanks to the supportive community, expert instruction, and motivating atmosphere this school provides. I'm currently a Sr. Blue Belt, and every step of the journey--both physically and mentally--has pushed me to grow in ways I never imagined. The instructors at Kickside are nothing short of extraordinary. They're not only high-degree black belts with impressive skill and experience, but also incredible teachers who are genuinely invested in their students' progress. Their passion for martial arts and dedication to helping each student succeed is clear in every class. The community here is something special. I've built meaningful relationships with fellow students who encourage and inspire one another every day. Whether you're just starting out or have years of experience, there's a place for you here--and you'll be surrounded by people who want to see you thrive. Seeing my progression (and the progress of so many others) displayed proudly in the front lobby is such a powerful reminder of how far we've come, and how much this school believes in celebrating every victory, big or small. Kickside Martial Arts isn't just a place to train--it's a place to grow, to challenge yourself, and to be part of something greater. I'm grateful every time I step onto the mat, and I'd highly recommend this school to anyone ready to start their own journey.

Master Parks provides a perfect combination of discipline, exercise and fun. Our girls absolutely love taekwondo. The instructors are really good with the kids. Including those children on the spectrum. The first class is free and provides the instructors an opportunity to assess the child, and allows you an opportunity to see if your child would enjoy. Our girls just had there first color belt testing, and it blows my mind that a 3 year old is breaking boards and practicing at home. Strongly recommended!

My son attended MPBBA in Marlboro on Main street for over 7 years and has a second degree black…read morebelt. He was involved in numerous activities at MPBBA, including the demo team and worked there as an instructor. So we have extensive experience with this place. Unfortunately, MPBBA has gone dramatically downhill over the last 4 years or so, mostly due to the actions of the owner - Master Steve Park. The school used to have some incredible masters - Master Kang and Master Yoo; however, Master Kang now has his own school and Master Yoo teaches at another location. MPBBA was great for smaller kids, but significantly loses its value as students become better and older, as there is really no one there to teach them. Master Steve Park himself is a horrible instructor these days, who enjoys the sound of his own voice more than actually teaching taekwondo skills and does not mind screaming at students. He was even more nasty with the older kids, wasting time with stupid life lessons (such as "who needs college?") and screaming at them in rage when they did something wrong. My son made the final decision to quit after he could no longer put up with Master Steve Park and his antics and after being screamed at with rage and hatred after missing a few board breaks at a demo team performance. The belt testing here is a joke and belts are generally given away in exchange for paying the testing fees. Some students are truly outstanding; however, they are the minority. I sat through two black belt testing events and was amazed how kids and adults who could barely do one complete push up and could not get their leg up above their knee for kicks were getting black belts. Master Steve puts on a show, but at the end of the day, every single person gets a black belt, no one ever fails anything, whether they could actually do something or not. It is a joke. Finally, from a financial standpoint, this place is a rip-off. I was paying $300 a month and my son was mostly being asked to teach so he did not have time to take classes. So I was paying $300 a month to MPBBA for my son to work for them! They also tricked us into signing a two year contract, knowing full well that my son was going to go to college in less than 1.5 years. MPBBA used to be a great school with incredible masters and great camaraderie among everyone. Unfortunately, Master Steve Park has completely destroyed all of this. I would not recommend MPBBA to anyone these days. If you want a great school, check out Master Kang's.
