Amanda was doing tickets today and was efficient and helpful in getting me the variety of activities our large group would participate in. Carlie, she's fantastic! Bottles of water are only a dollar at most vendors. I saw a $1 grilled cheese sandwich. You can buy a walking onion for $3. A walking onion? I have no idea. It was too hot for me to consider eating something that was billed to taste like french onion soup. But now, I regret the decision. I did try one of the $6 pit beef sandwiches after seeing the smoker in the back. Man, that was serious and resulted in a fantastic smoke ring. And the $4 milkshakes were pretty fantastic, especially the strawberry. And no fair experience is complete without funnel cake. The one from the permanent structure was fantastic. Also we took in a clogging show and watched a whole lot of goats get judged. The rides were a lot of fun for the kids. I found the ferris wheel to be terrifying, but enjoyed the bumper cars. I'm really hoping that we make it back here next year during fair week, because this place is fantastic.

There were clouds sitting on the lake for the few days we were here, very misty and Will-O-the-Wisp magical. We ended up traveling to some breweries, Swallow Falls (massive rapids with all the rain), did some local shopping and caught a movie. The camp sites weren't crowded at all and we had no problem making last minute reservations for a Sunday and Monday night.

Edwards Community Aquatic and Recreation Complex at Garrett College. It's a full set of athletic facilities. We focussed on the kid's pool. It's at the end of the large lap pool. We spent most of our time in the 2ft-8in-deep shallower somewhat-separate section of the kids' pool, which the younger children (and their parents) were more comfortable in. The 3-year-olds entered via a long ramp, and made forays from the separate stairs to practice short swims to their parents. By the end of an hour, they were bravely taking swims in the middle of that shallow area. The 7-year-old swam happily end-to-end there, and then accompanied an adult into the larger deeper main 4ft-3in-deep section of the kids' pool. And at the end, we turned on the jacuzzi-like bubbling in the shallow section, much to everyone's delight! A grand finale! Most of us stayed with the kids, though one or two,swam some laps in the adjacent adult pool. The cost was quite reasonable! $15 for one adult, or $30 for four. Seniors and teens $10, younger $5, below 6-yrs-old for $2. On weekends, there's hours when it's only $6 per person! You pay at a small desk just inside the entrance, just past the Amazon delivery lockers and the shelf of shared books to read. We all burned off excess energy before dinner. And we saw a beaver in the grassy area on the right as we turned north on Garrett Highway afterwards! A perfect afternoon!

Regular price of $80 seems a bit steep for this place but I understand that you're in a sort of "resort" town so... Most of the courses around here are actually rather expensive. In fact, this might even be the cheapest one! The layout is certainly unique. The idea of having six part 5s and six part 3s and six part 4s might sound somewhat interesting but... In the end, I kind of found it annoying. (Call me a purist, I guess?) By far, the worst thing is the pace of play. We had a couple groups ahead of us on the front nine that were ridiculously slow. The starter kept sending out twosomes and it just back things up. Two groups behind me actually quit before getting to number nine... One of them quit on whole number five. It was better on the back nine when the groups in front of us quit. The starter didn't seem to really know what he was doing. And there were no Rangers. I understand that rangers can be annoying... But an almost three hour 9 is ridiculous. Another thing that's really worth noting... The hills are somewhat significant, and the carts are legitimately not great with their brakes. Like... Seriously not good. And somewhat surprisingly the management seems to be aware of this. They even gave me a heads up. What's even weirder, is that the newer carts actually seem to be WORSE! Coming down the cartpath after green on hole #five, the pro actually warned me to be careful.... And I honestly was trying to be incredibly careful! And I STILL almost flipped the cart! The brakes just give out! It's like you have to pump them or something... But it wasn't just there... Anytime you were going down a hill on the course, there was no guarantee your car could stop. That's insanity! So the course was in good enough shape... And the greens were actually in really surprisingly good shape for the most part... ((though the greens on the back nine are surprisingly small)) ... my biggest problem was the golf carts... Just straight up unsafe. ((Legitimately... If you're healthy enough to walk the course... Do yourself a huge favor and walk it. It's much safer!))
