TL;DR: everyone stayed safe and had fun! Our family did this as an activity on vacation. It was easy to book online, and thankfully the weather was beautiful. What could have been better: communication about what to bring or not to bring (yes to a way to secure your glasses, no to water bottles or a dry bag for water /snacks /sunscreen); where to park (across the bridge near the beer store or at the public park); and that the "snack" after the trip is a full meal (pulled pork, hot dogs, sides). The restroom-changing facilities are fairly primitive on site (women's side includes a single curtained toilet, single shower stall, a chair behind a screen, and an open area with a bench, a chair, and an uncovered window that overlooks the take-out site). What was great: the emphasis on safety, quality materials, communication between the team members, THE RAPIDS. My favorite one was whatever one we had just finished. I never buy the ride photos, but I did this time because we wanted to commemorate a great afternoon, and to reward the team for good work. Two fit 70-year-olds were able to do this with their 30s to early 50s children. Can recommend! read more

This was the highlight of our vacation this summer. White water rafting with some of the most experienced guides you can get. If you have a chance to go on a trip with these guys you will not be disappointed. The guides themselves clearly enjoy taking people on the river, creating a lighthearted day and capping the entire experience off with a hearty meal at the end. If I ever get the chance to come back I will definitely do it. All the guides were great but we had Warren and appreciated the level of expertise he brought with him. If you compare to similar groups, you will find they have a higher age requirement but the years of experience this group has allows them to serve a wider variety of people on this adventure. read more

I cannot say enough great things about our white water rafting experience with Precision! I called in the morning looking for kayak rentals for a group of 4 and Roger told us about the rafting trip they had going out. It was leaving in 40 minutes but if we could make it down we would not regret it. We were skeptical not being experienced in rafting but figured why not? He was 100% right. We had the best time and would totally do this again with Precision! Roger was fantastic and took every precaution to make us feel safe during the COVID-19 situation. These guys are the best! After going rafting once in Harpers ferry and feeling thoroughly ripped off, I expanded my search and found these guys. Granted, it's a long 3 1/2 hour hike from baltimore. But the whole town of Friendsville personifies souther hospitality, and the Upeer Yough! What a blast. It's a short busride from the shop, you put in, do some small rapids, get your sea legs, then hit the big excitemebt for two hours straight. Thery have like 5 guys on white water kayaks zooming up ahead, you couldn't feel safer. We never bounced out of the raft, but when people did, they were pulled back in within seconds. I can't emphasize this enough, class 5 rapids, and a feeling of total safety. these guys were so on top of it, it was like having a national guard escort. The taker out is right next to the shop, where they treat you to beer and burger. For a $130 apiece, I couldn't have felt more satisfied that it was money well spent. PS, you can stay at the riverside hotel, and eat at the Jubilee Junction, both of which I've also reviewed. read more

We took our annual "Friendcation" trip to Deep Creek Lake, MD this year and whitewater rafting was #1 on our trip bucket list. I was initially pretty nervous about whitewater rafting for the first time, but the huge emphasis that Roger and the Precision Rafting team puts on safety and making sure you know what you're doing on the trip really helped to put my mind at ease. We had 3 couples in our group, and we split up into two separate groups, girls in one raft and guys in another. We had Jeff as our guide, and I couldn't ask for a better guide for this experience. He was thorough in his instructions, made sure we were comfortable with the commands and could execute them properly before we hit any rapids, and he definitely made sure we were having a good time throughout the entire trip. The way the rapids progressed was really awesome, and starting off and ending with class 1s & 2s really helped us to both get ready for the tougher rapids ahead, and also relax a little bit at the end on our way back. Our group's favorite part was "The Pillow!" After "rockin' the Yough!" we were welcomed back to Precision Rafting's shop with a cookout, cold drinks, and iPads with Jay's photos of the trip. It was so cool to see the memories we made after the fact. We purchased the photos and are very happy with them. There are some really great shots! The rest of our weekend, all we could talk about was the great time we had on our Upper Yough trip and how we're excited to do it again. I never expected that reaction from myself after how nervous I was before the trip. I highly recommend Precision Rafting for anyone--beginner to advanced and beyond--because the dedication, knowledge, and just pure love for the sport that this company has makes you know that you'll be safe on your trip, as well as have the time of your life.  A BIG Thank You to Roger, Jeff, Leif, and the whole Precision Rafting team. Awesome company, great guide and a super fun day on the Upper Yough River. We were on a long road trip from Austin by way of Chicago and had been in contact with Roger (who I am guessing is the owner of the company) a few weeks leading up to our trip. He was great at returning my e-mails and answering questions. We didn't know if we were going rafting until the day of our trip only because the company was unsure if there would be a dam release. Roger was great at communicating with us the morning of the trip. Upon arrival, they were loading the van with several kayaks. These kayaks would later be our "look out" in the event one of us fell from the raft or got in to any trouble. I was highly impressed with their attention to details and safety. I've rafted other rivers in the USA and had never seen that. Very cool! The river did not disappoint. In fact, it was one of the highlights of our trip. We're still talking about it a week later! My only regret is that since it was an unscheduled dam release, there wasn't a photographer to capture any of our awesome moments through the rapids. The upside to the unscheduled release is that we were the ONLY raft on the river all day. Talk about a treat!! If you're looking to raft in the area, I would not hesitate to contact Precision Rafting. They're a class act for sure!! P.S. They also allowed by small, geriatric terrier stay in their office while we were out on the river. The woman working the office was very kind and put a fan on her so she would stay cool. Cannot add much that has not been mentioned. Overall excellent experience...excellent guides...many of whom have guided us on the upper gauley. White water rafting is a fantastic experience and an excellent value...and these guys make it that much better. I also recommend the Cheat, Upper Gauley, and the Russell Fork...all fantastic rides. As experienced rafters, we are often the "lead" boat...to provide additional safety..which is super cool because you get to watch the others come through the rapids. This is a perfectly safe yet thrilling experience....and these folks have different trips for all types..family float trips...kayaking...etc. read more

The guides were fantastic and the trip was incredible. It is a highly technical set of rapids, up to class V, and you need a guide with experience on the Upper Yough. We had a group of 4 (3 teens, one adult) and we had a blast. The guides from Upper Yough Expeditions know these rapids inside and out and take a lot of pride in their work. We took our annual friend vacation to Deep Creek this year and decided to cross whitewater rafting off our bucket list. My two girlfriends and I went in one raft and our partners went in another. Two of us were pretty anxious about the trip. I shared this with Nancy at check-in and I am so glad I did. She hooked us up with Jeff and we had the best day of our lives. Jeff was a junior national kayaker and was not only knowledgeable he was an exceptional instructor. He used easy to understand terminology, was proactive telling us what we needed to do in the upcoming rapids and when. I felt so safe and secure the entire time. Not to mention the number of safety kayakers who were waiting at the bottom of the rapids to help out if anyone went overboard and cheer you on after a good run. The comraderie and energy made the trip that much more fun. I think the whole group knew Jeff had the greenies so there was some good natured razzing going on the whole way. I loved the progression of the trip, nice flat water to start and practice our new paddling skills, some threes to get our sea legs and then it's party time on the level 5's. The owner of the rafting company, Roger was with us every step of the way. He takes safety VERY SERIOUSLY. Roger was the pioneer of the upper Yough and I'm certain knows it better than any other human. You know you are safe with this crew. We were concerned at first about the class 5 rapids but the guide explained how to go through them and we didn't even realize they were class 5: they seemed too easy. I went with my two buddies from college. it was wet rainy day which made for an unbelievable ride down the Yough! The staff were so friendly and genuine, while also being experts on the river. They had all the equipment you would need. warren was our guide, and he is top-notch. roger the owner is a great guy, and ensure that everyone had a safe and fun trip. So. Much. Fun. Went with my family having never done it before. What a thrilling experience. It was the perfect combination of exciting moments punctuated with opportunities to catch your breath. This was our first time white water rafting. We can't say enough great things about this rafting company. They were very organized, and we appreciated the serious approach they took to safety, which didn't mitigate the fun at all. In fact, we enjoyed ourselves even more knowing we wouldn't drown! Our rafting trip was awesome! They had a good number of people out on the water, so it got a little crowded sometimes, but the rapids were pretty awesome. Our guide was super friendly. On the down side, It seems like a very commercialized organization, with enough safety rules to buff some of the fun edges out of a good rafting trip. They serve a good meal and beer after the trip is over, and the staff is pretty accommodating. read more

We recently did the float trip down the Yough--four families with three children ages 3-5 in tow. Check-in and settling the balance was really simple and this is when the kiddos were fitted with their vests. We then followed the van to a designated parking location where we hopped in the van and they took us to the river's entrance. We then took a short walk to the river through the woods. Each boat had a great guide who showed us the ropes and gave us history of the river and other cool rafting tidbits. The guides were extremely attentive to our safety and comfort along the way. We even paid for a photographer, Justin, to shadow us. He took some amazing shots which we purchased and he emailed to us less than 24 hours later. Shout out to our guide, Mike! I'd recommend this trip for those who are not yet ready for true rapids or those traveling with young children. read more

We organized a bachelor party with a group of first time rafters looking for an exciting and safe trip. Roger and Nancy were exceptional with organizing and providing instructions prior to the start of the trip. It was clear throughout the trip that Roger runs a finely tuned operation. Justin was our guide during the trip. He was extremely knowledgeable and talented as we navigated our way through challenging, but really fun rapids. My brother and I were convinced that we had the best guide until swapping stories with the other 3 boats in our group. They all argued that they had the best guides. Roger only hires exceptionally talented guides that understand exactly how to approach each of the various rapids. The day exceeded our expectations and was topped off with Roger providing one of the guys with a Jethro Bodine belt at the end of the day.
