We had the veggie breakfast sandwich, the bacon-egg-and-cheese breakfast croissant sandwich, a medium mocha cappuccino, a medium cafe con leche as well as an order of pan de bono to go. The sandwiches were served pretty promptly and the portion sizes were pretty decent. The lady forgot our to go order for the pan de bono till we asked while waiting for our coffee. However, since the coffee arrived super late, we decided to have the pan de bono at the café instead of taking it to go simply to pass the time. Coffee was decent too but nothing exceptional. Overall, the place is okay but kinda pricey for the food and the service they provide. We paid upwards of $50 (including tip) for two breakfast sandwiches, two tiny breads and two medium sized coffees. May not be a viable option as a regular breakfast place for most people in this economy.

As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles, and the cozy atmosphere immediately made us feel welcome. We ordered two kinds of smoothies along with their traditional beignets. The beignets were generously dusted with powdered sugar, and when I took my first bite, they were hot, fresh, and wonderfully chewy on the inside. I honestly don't think I've ever had freshly made beignets before, and they were absolutely delicious! We were both so excited to discover this place. They offer several different varieties of beignets, and we're already looking forward to trying more of them little by little on future visits. We have one of these in Lake Nona area as well, where I have enjoyed their tea (also amazing) and this was my first time having the coffee. Of the two, I recommend the tea more, but the drinks can add up price-wise as you can imagine.

Matcha has officially exploded in the United States, and Saikō has clearly tapped into that culture. They have a really fun menu with creative combinations that go way beyond a basic matcha latte, but what really caught my attention was the Hojicha. I'm calling it now: Matcha was the beginning. Hojicha is coming next. Hojicha is roasted Japanese green tea, and it has a completely different flavor profile from matcha. It's smooth, earthy, nutty and almost toasted, without that grassy quality some people associate with matcha. The one I had at Saikō was absolutely delicious. I also love that they're not treating Japanese tea like a trend that needs to be watered down for everyone. There's some real creativity happening with the flavors and combinations, and the menu is interesting enough that I'd want to come back and work my way through it. The location is definitely unconventional, but there's something kind of cool about watching people play pickleball while you're sitting there drinking Japanese tea. I don't make my way over to that area very often, but this place is worth the drive. They have a fun matcha menu with a variety of flavors and combinations. They all sound amazing. I've loved the mango sticky rice matcha in the past. Most recently I tried the pistachio matcha and it was also delish. The staff is always super friendly and offers great recommendations based on your preferences. The cafe area has plenty of seating as well. It's cool that you can watch people play pickleball while you sip on your matcha. The Greenery Creamery also just opened their new location right next door, so I'm sure they'll start to see some increased traffic.
