I have eaten at and enjoyed the Clovis location, but am currently in a motel in Portales. I should have driven up to Clovis. I ordered a Juanito's Deluxe. Chile rellano, taco, enchilada, chalupa, beans, rice and grande sopapillo. I asked for green sauce on the side, not poured over. It was provided correctly. Back at the motel, I opened the bag containing my dinner. I was provided a bag of chips and a cup of salsa that neither asked for nor wanted. HOWEVER. My Granda Sopapilla was missing. As were eating utensils and napkins. I called and was told I could come back for the sopapillo. Twice. I am not leaving my motel and driving back to rectify your mistake. The bean chalupa was good, the taco was so-so as the meat was dry and tasteless. As I don't choose to eat the rest with my fingers, I can't judge their taste. *** When paying, I would have preferred not to be asked if I wanted to leave a tip. Please just give the customer either the credit card machine or the receipt and let us discretely provide a tip. I was enjoying a burrito and the waiter placed my final bill on the table. No problem, this is common. He came by offering a dessert that I didn't want, and had to take back the check to correct the dessert he already charged me for. WTF? He offered it like it was free... Ordered the chicken fajitas ........ for $13 it doesn't even come out on a hot plate , chicken was barely cooked , rice was mushy and unflavored .... cheese dip was gross . Our waiter could take personal calls yet not check back in with us about our meal ..... waited a good 20 mins til we finally just took the ticket to the register and informed them I didn't even touch the fajitas after one bite , with MAYBE 10 people dining in the excuse was that the cook was frazzled trying to get orders out . hands down the BEST mexican food! Everything that I have ever tried here has been phenomenal and we make sure that we go there EVERY time we go home for a visit. Their Chile Rellanos are just amazing they are not soppy or soggy they are crisp and served with a ranchero sauce. Delish! The enchlidas ... YUM. They have a seafood enchilada that our server reccomended and it was unbelievable. The portions are H U G E, and the quality of the food is simply amazing. my favorite is the end of the meal and the sopapillas... they are served traditional no sugar no cinnamon (thank GOD) they are served hot , a fluffy bread cut into triangles and deep fried ... served with honey. one taste and I KNOW I am home. The service is beyond exceptional and the servers work their butts off making sure your drinks are filled , your food is good, and that you're dining expectations have been exceeded. Wow! Saw that there were only 4 reviews so we took a chance on maybe it just being a few customers with a bad experience. OMG! This is not fresh Mexican food. Salsa was not good at all! Ordered fajitas and it came out on a plate, the sour cream that came with it was in a packet, the chicken was fatty and processed, the beans tasted like they came from a can. Average chips and salsa. The stuffed sopapilla was large and filling for lunch. I had leftovers for the next day! The food comes out hot, and the price is cheap. Despite the lack of circulation or clean carpet (it just smells musty/old in here), the food was decent. For a place in Portales, it serves up some A-OK Mexican food. The guacamole comes from a jar, there's no way it's fresh! Very sad when a Mexican restaurant chooses to get it from a jar. The fajita meat (chicken and beef) has no flavor and very chewy. I will never eat here again. read more

Yikes..this place did not give off a good first impression. It was a friday night, we stopped in about 8:30p, so the rush was over. We sat down right away, but as we were walking to our table, other tables had yet to be cleared. When we got to our table, I immediately had to ask the waitress if I could have a wet rag to wipe down her table because it was sticky. We then received chips, but not salsa... after about 10 minutes of no one taking our drink order, we waved down one of the waitresses and asked if we could get some waters while we waited for waitress (that we could see across the room, sweeping the floor). This woman was snippy with us and walked away and told our waitress we needed to be attended to. Our waitress was very sweet, and apologized. She told us that she was waiting for the salsa to be made because they had ran out, she could tell our frustration and brought us some queso while we waited on salsa, it was very sweet of her to do so. The food when we received it (after about a 30 minute wait) was cold. The flavor was okay, nothing spectacular, but I couldn't get past the fact that my entire meal was cold. Times like this is when I am proud of where we come from. Northern New Mexico serves the best of the best when it comes to green Chile and tamales. Juanitos, doesn't get close. The previous reviewer must not get much good Mexican food. Juanitos can in no way be classified as acceptable Mexican cuisine. It does, culinarily, reflect the dilapidated town of Portales. Before even commenting on the food, a comment must be said about the so-called service. The doubly pierced-in-the-mouth server was more concerned with her SMS device in her back left pocket than being attentive to our party. Her disinterest was a match to the ingredients and flavor of the food itself. Firstly, they had NO RICE?????. Yes. No rice at a Mexican restaurant. Ok. But then they have no juice for kids either which I find simply odd--maybe the kids drink Tecate, I don't know. Anyway, we ordered chile rellanos. They weren't remarkable. The queso in the them I never did quite identify. Since there was no rice, we were given extra portions of frijoles--joy. The high-point of the meal was the XX amber and the sopapillas. My companion was served a warm beer; no, I mean a warm bottle, not even cool. Best mexican for miles. Sucks in many ways, but they use tons fo cheese. I think they have bad service too, but they do have rice (its not very good - but its there). My wife loves the food; but she is a New Mexican and says its as close to Albuquerque as we can get here. read more
