Decided that we wanted something different on our way to Ruidoso. Yelp had good reviews. The staff was great! Very friendly and helpful as we made decisions. They even gave us samples of the chicken. had to give a shout out to my hometown favorite! Forget Taco Bell and Del Taco ! Taco Box has homemade mexican goodness. Honestly the BEST taquitos I have EVER eaten, and they serve them with their own fresh blend of salsa. Everything on the menu is great! Pig in a poncho, Nachos their green chili burger ROCKS! The only sad thing they only have locations in New Mexico, so I have to wait for visits back home to get my comfort food. I always couple it with a homemade vanilla coke (they have that super crushed ice which makes it soooo yum) It blows my diet but the next time I am home ... I am soooo munching on these goodies and I am going to figure out just HOW I can start a petition to have a location brought to Nevada. Who wouldn't want to try a taco place that's local, has a line of cars waiting in the drive-thru and has a billboard sign advertising $1.00 tacos?! Count me in. As an avid "Yelper," I'm pretty ashamed that I didn't even check Yelp before I went to order my meal... My first experience here was OK. I ordered the chicken taco salad bowl and I suppose I had some pretty high expectations. The deep fried taco bowl was everything I had hoped for and more. It was crispy, just greasy enough and tasty. Probably the best non-stale taco bowl I've ever had; however... the actual salad part of this taco SALAD was mediocre at best. The taco salad bowl contained an "ice cream scoop-worth" of diced chicken (not much), and there was no sour cream on it (in the picture at the drive thru the bowl looks filled with ingredients), the extra guac I paid for seemed like a small dollop, not to mention the limited amount of tomatoes and olives. C'mon now, if I specifically order EXTRA guac, don't hold back! So basically the salad consisted of shredded lettuce dotted with olives, and spotted with tomatoes and some cheese. You disappointed me Taco Box. I really wanted to like you! I wonder if there's a way I can just go back for the crispy taco bowl.... it's good y'all... but the salad could use some improvement. jus'sayin.. Since I'm a fan of 2nd chances and now that I've looked at other Yelp Reviews, I suppose the next time I go I'll try the pig in a poncho (I have no idea what that is still), the chile relleno burrito and the vanilla coke. This little drive-through apparently has been around forever. My wife bought food here since she was a kid. Anyway, when we were visiting recently, we bought some tacos and burritos. All were fresh and tasty. The sauce is a little spicy but not too bad. Definitely lived up to its name. read more

It is one the hometown favorites the everybody misses when they leave home. When we moved back to Portales I was thrilled to eat there whenever I wanted. The food is good most of the time. The food pictured on the menu is not usually the same as what you actually get on your tray. The nacho deluxe that is pictured, looks delicious with sour cream, guacamole and green chile. If you order that, it is not what you get. You've got to order sour cream, guacamole and careen chile additionally. The same goes with the queso fries. The people are always friendly and willing to help you with your order. I do wish the floors were mopped with a better cleaning solution. The floors always feel sticky and probably cause the unpleasant smell that lurks there in the mornings. read more

This place is WONDERFUL. Kind staff, always clean. The food is fantastic and a nice shift from other more franchised taco places. Also, would be remiss to say that this place has the best green chili cheeseburger in town, no doubt. Just got a steak and potato burrito at Taco Box...and paid over $4. The main ingredient was the tortilla...the "steak" was some form of meat but had no flavor at all. The potatoes tasted like they were frozen or out of a box. The whole thing was DRY. Save your money for Juanito's or even the deli at the grocery store. read more
