From the moment we arrived at Juckas, we were made to feel at home and welcomed with open arms. My mum was visiting from England and this was an amazing birthday gift for her. Lorie and the staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. The horses were calm and well behaved, and the trail was stunning, peaceful, and the perfect amount of time. This place was very special since I had my bachelorette up here. We had two ladies during our trip and they accomodated all 11 of us. We were a little late and one lady wasn't the nicest. The other lady was so sweet, she owned her own horse and was very knowledgable. I learned a lot from here. Despite the first lady not being nice, we had a lovely time. Great trail ride! Took my 9 year-old grandson out for his first experience ever. So it was him (never ridden so much as a pony), my daughter (intermediate experience), and myself (old lady who rode a LOT in younger days). We were each given appropriate horses for our level of experience, and it was clear that they were all well cared for and willing. In my younger days, I led a lot of trails (so I am more informed than most). Our leader was kind, relaxed, and attentive. We had an awesome time. All the staff was careful and gentle with the horses and the people. It's not your fancy dressage type place. The saddles are western (that horn never hurts in helping newbies feel a little more secure) and the mounting block is every bit as high as it needs to be! Great family-owned place - for families. While waiting for her appointment she was outside by tbe petting zoo but the dog brought her a stick to throw for them . She got ro ride Romeo who is HUGE but gentle and to see a 10 year old on riding thislarge animal is definitely a sight. Wow I'm shocked. When we first walked in no one greeted us. The lady that showed up didn't even say hello. She looked so high she could barely open her eyes. Unfortunately she was also our guide. They put us on horses that looked defeated and miserable. The entire trip our guide was busy texting and didn't speak to us or explained anything about the area and horses. When my horse didn't cooperate she slapped his face. Really? That's how u treat animals???? The path was not maintained and the view of trees didn't change expect for like 5 minutes when we got out of the brush. This was a fantastic experience, and we will definitely be back! I have a lot of riding experience and brought my girlfriend who has never rode before. Even though we were on very different levels, Nicole (the manager) made the ride fun for both of us. The horses are very well-trained, and very well cared for - allowed to roam free around the 100+ acre property! The only downside to the ride is that we weren't allowed to do any galloping (but not many places in the U.S allow this either unless are parties are very experienced). Went riding with a friend on a beautiful day. Small barn with a few stalls for personal horses, most horses are in a pasture with lean to. Good - Horses looked well cared for, hooves and tack all suitable. Helmets are available. Expect western saddles as they are more suitable/stable for new riders. Horses are directed by neck rein. Trails - It had rained several days ago. The trails were leaf covered but deep with mud and large rocks. There were 2 open fields. Mostly just wound around. Seen a few deer which was nice and the time of year made the ride quite pretty. The guide and barn manager and her kids were all pleasant and knowledgeable. Bad The number listed on google, Yelp or Facebook doesn't work. (You can reserve/pay through the site or in person. ) but it was kinda sketchy that the number didn't work and I didn't really want to pay until I spoke to someone knowing that the business changed hands.. I wasn't sure if this was still an active site. Need more direction/signage on where to park The trails need to be maintained. Sure keep some logs down and of course grass or leaves.. I mean it's a trail ride.. even a little creek or something with some mud.. but it was MUDDY. There were no views of the "gunks" which I had hoped for.. kinda disappointing by the description of the trailride. I have been riding for a long time. But my friend hadn't ridden in a very long time and never like this. She could've used some basic guidance before taking off on the trails by our guide. The guided tour is great because you always feel secure, but the trail is in the woods so you might have to navigate through trees at times which made it really fun. My partner, two friends, and I went riding here in August. I am the most experienced of the group having ridden and taken lessons, my partner has ridden a few times with me, and our two friends were the least experienced with one having never ridden a horse before. Upon arrival, we were met by an older woman who asked me if I was over 16. I was the oldest in the group (28, quite petite) and it was asked in our registration forms, so I was slightly insulted. I must have seemed so as she said that I looked young so she just wanted to make sure, but she could have also checked our registration forms. I'm trying to ride a horse, not buy cheap liquor. It just kept adding on from there. While waiting for the restroom, which was an outdoor portapotty, the group of leads who were also waiting for the restroom told me that I didn't have to wear my mask - in a pandemic and as if I needed their permission. I responded that I chose to, thanks, and left it at that. My friend, who is black and has locks, was unable to wear a helmet because they didn't have a helmet for her hair. They kept complimenting her hair and calling it beautiful, but it was still very off putting that they wouldn't account for ethnic hair. It was her first ride so I opted not to wear a helmet with her to make her feel more comfortable, although I usually wear a helmet for safety. I thought that the ride was going to be semi-private and limited due to COVID, but it was a 10-15 person group ride. The way that they paired people with horses was absolutely senseless as they wound up separating groups that came in together. For example, I had a horse that had to ride all the way in the back, 6-8 feet away from the entire group because he didn't like other horses. My partner was at the front of the group. Our two friends towards the middle. Thankfully, my horse was an easy horse for me and our ride was uneventful, albeit slow and boring -- I knew from the moment I saw the size of the group there would be no opportunity for galloping. However, my same friend, who has never ridden a horse before and wasn't wearing a helmet, had quite an eventful ride as she was paired with a difficult horse that I wouldn't move or follow cues, was trying to bite at the other horses, and was an absolute wild card throughout the ride. I felt really bad and scared for my friend and wanted to swap horses with her because it was clearly an advanced horse for a novice rider. She should have never been on that horse in the first place. The ride itself was scenic and beautiful. We saw a bunch of deer, but even in that, it was an advanced ride for novice riders as there were quite a few steep inclines and declines, and many unsafe areas for horses to trip with a rider, like my friend and I, who weren't wearing helmets. If we were in the area again, I wouldn't go back for another ride. My partner had a good time because she chatted with the leader for quite a while and it was a good discussion, but from my perspective (all the way in the back, watching the entire group events unfold in front of me), it wasn't good. I would rate two stars for the experience itself, but I added a star because the horses do seem well taken care of. However, the riding experience wasn't for me. read more

My partner and I took the 90 min guided tour on our vacation in the Catskills this past week. It was her second time riding and my fourth. After a very short explanation of how to "drive" the horse, we were saddled and on our way. Courtney, our wrangler, was very professional, personable, and made our experience that more enjoyable with her lively conversation. One of the best I've ever had. She took us on around their 171 acre property, into some open fields, and into the woods nearby. It was really cool to ride as the navigated hills, fallen trees, and mud from the recent rain. I rode Diesel and my partner rode Red, who we were told were best friends. They got along great, were very well-behaved, and so easy to ride. We even got to do some trotting. It was very clear that the horses were well taken care of and they appeared to be in very good shape. We absolutely loved our experience and plan on doing it again. While we would recommend it to everyone, it might not be as exciting to people with a good amount of riding experience. But the scenery and the horses were wonderful. read more

Due to a possible health situation at home, we were unsure if we were going to make it on time to the ride. Not wanting to delay the group, we tried to cancel or reschedule, but Juckas Stables was not willing to reschedule or issue a refund. We managed to arrive in time, and the staff lead my boyfriend and I to our horses. Before my boyfriend even mounted his horse, the horse bit his forearm and broke skin. He did not approach the horse incorrectly and is an experienced rider. We are not at all blaming the animal. Neither of us would ever do that. What we are upset about is how Juckas Stables handled the situation. The staff then told us our horses could be a bit more temperamental (which was fine since we both had experience) but all we were told was that they can be stubborn and they like to eat along the way so we shouldn't allow them to do that. My boyfriend calmly alerted the guide to the fact that the horse bit him on his forearm. She was immediately dismissive and said "oh well he didn't break skin right?" It was an open wound, and clearly bruising underneath the skin. He asked to wash out the wound in a bathroom, there wasn't one. He asked for a first aid kit (we were still in the stables by the office). There wasn't one. One employee found some Neosporin which my boyfriend applied before we left the stables. It wasn't until we came back to the stables AFTER a 1 hour ride that an employee came over to offer a bandaid and the guide let my boyfriend use the hose outside to wash off the wound (no soap). On the ride, the guide admitted to us that my boyfriend's horse and the guide's horse had an altercation earlier in the day where they bit each other. On top of that, it was the last ride of the day and they usually don't do a 5:15pm ride, but they did for Labor Day weekend. Our response to that is, professionally, those horses should not have been riding then. It's not worth the money and leaves open too much room for something to go wrong, for the horse to get aggressive because of fatigue and earlier tensions with another animal. Overall, we were very upset with how unprofessional the staff was and how ill-prepared the stables were in general for something like this. Most upsetting though was the fact that all indicators pointed to not allowing these horses to ride, and yet they were made to ride anyway. The staff knew about the earlier aggressions that day, knew the horses were fatigued as they typically don't ride so late, and let us ride the horses anyway. Finally, underscoring the entire incident is the fact that we paid $75 per person to walk the horses for an hour. We booked with Juckas Stables because the site indicates that the rides are for both beginners and experienced riders. read more

We signed up for a 1/2 hour lesson for my young daughter. The web based sign up and waiver was user friendly and staff promptly answered questions over the phone as well. From my daughter - "I felt like I was on top of the world and it was the best thing in my life." From a parent perspective - the instructor was patient, kind, age appropriate and very informative. Was a little unsure about visiting this place, judging from their website, which offers nothing but an indemnity waiver - no descriptions, no prices, not even an actual street address - you're supposed to call. Also not on the website is anything about needing to call for reservations. More on that later. The positive reviews here on Yelp and also at TripAdvisor (where one commenter suggested the pricing was $25 for a ride) swayed us toward going. Upon arriving, we walked into a dark, filthy front room, decorated with yellowing pictures, newspaper clippings about girls that stole horses, and random half-empty bottles of chemicals. Soon an irritable elderly woman came out and asked us what we wanted. Upon realizing that we were there to yes, ride horses at the Juckas Stables where you, well, ride horses, she demanded if we'd made a reservation. No, we smiled, we had not. Now she became exasperated. Here we are, impudent out-of-town guests, who did their research online and found nothing indicating a reservation was necessary, showing up out of the blue and wanting to spend their money at her business! The nerve. Well, our friendly proprietor shuffled off to the back and we overheard her say "well I guess you'll take 2 out right now and then the other group at 11" and a younger voice replied "OK." Back she comes, feeling it necessary to remind us that we should have made a reservation. There's a group of 5 at 11am, she says. At this point, we ask would it be better if we came back? At that she literally grabbed both sides of her head and barked at us to "let her think!" At this point the business savvy really kicked in. The offer? Take a 45 minute ride at the same price as the hour ride, which is $45. Wow, really? What a bargain! We angled for a lower price, mentioning the review we'd seen online, at which point she laughed at us and said they hadn't charged such prices in 25 years. We didn't say anything about the open envelope of $5-off coupons in plain view sitting on a table right next to her. She invited us to think about it, and then puttered around the filthy little office while we awkwardly tried to decide if this was in any way worth it. As she hovered, she did mention that she "wasn't trying to be rude." We went outside to talk, and she followed us out! We told her we couldn't afford her rates and left. I'm really not sure how this place stays in business. The rude treatment and the absolute lack of any customer service made this a big no for us. If you are dying to ride a horse and have $45 to burn, and for some reason aren't willing to try anywhere else, then do yourself a favor: call ahead and make a reservation! Oh and probably take a restroom break before you arrive: all we saw was a purple portapotty on the side of the road as you drive in. Rider beware. read more

We had a lovely experience at Juckas Stables. I brought my 7 yo daughter for her first ride. The grounds were pretty, the horses where beautiful and the ones we rode were very gentle and comfortable around beginners. The staff were nice, patient and great teachers. My daughter was nervous about riding a full-sized horse, but they gently walked her through the steps. I took the lesson with her, and we practiced following, leading, turning and stopping. The teacher made it fun for my daughter, and she got some meaningful instruction in a short time. Then they invited her to help groom the horse, which she really enjoyed. We look forward to going back the next time we're in the area, and my daughter is asking to go riding again soon, so clearly she had a great experience. read more
